Gear change device. The object of the present invention is a speed changing device of the kind in which the motor shaft is connected to the receiving shaft by several pairs of toothed wheels always in mesh and each corresponding to a determined speed of the motor. receiver tree. This device is characterized in that one of the wheels of each pair is mounted on its shaft by means of mechanisms making it possible to fix the wheel on its shaft, to free the wheel from the shaft, or to make it integral with this. shaft in one direction of rotation only, so that the wheel can then function as a freewheel.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an axial vertical section of the gear change device; Fig. 2 is a plan view of part of the operating mechanism of the device; Fig. 3 is a front view of this mechanism; Fig. 4 is an axial section of one of the wheels of a pair of gear wheels; Fig. 5 is a plan view of this wheel; Figs. 6 and 7 are sections through VI-VI, respectively VII-VII of FIG. 4; Figs. 8 and 9 are a plan view, respectively a cross section of one of the wheels of the pair of gear wheels corresponding to the first speed of the receiving shaft; Figs. 10, 11 and 12 schematically show, in three different operating positions, the wheel shown in FIG. 4.
The re-presented gear change device is applied to an automobile car. In this embodiment, 1 is the casing, 2 the motor shaft carrying the flywheel 3 and 4, is the driven shaft, connected by gimbal differential to the driving wheels of the car, not shown. The shaft 2 carries four pinions: 5, 6, 7 and 8 which are constantly in a gear relationship with four pinions: 9, 10, 11 and 12 integral with the intermediate shaft 13, which carries them. The pinions 5, 6, 7 and 8 which correspond to the first, respectively to the second, third and fourth gear each have, inside them, two distinct mechanisms: A and B (fig. 4), the first A, makes it possible to secure the pinion with shaft 2 in one direction of rotation, while it operates as a freewheel device in the reverse direction.
The second mechanism B serves to secure the pinion with the shaft 2 in the direction of rotation in which the pinion is not driven by the mechanism A.
These mechanisms A and B, which will be described in detail later, can be connected in the following way and in the same way for all the speeds: on each side of the pinions 5, 6, 7 and 8 are arranged two slides 16, respectively 17, movable axially on the shaft 2 and carrying control claws 14 and 15 able to penetrate into the sides of the pinions to act on the mechanisms A, respectively B. These slides 16 and 17 are connected by forks 21 to slides 19 and 20 mounted on a guide 22 fixed in the housing.
The slides 19 and 20 are moved by means of a rotary cam 23 in the form of an S, having two eccentric grooves 24 and 25 in which are engaged the pins 26 carried by the slides 19 and 20. The groove 25 of the cam 23 is limited by the edge 27 of the cam and by an arm 28 articulated to the latter. The arm 28 cooperates with a heel 29a of a sliding rod 29, controlled by a lever 30 articulated at 30a, to bring the heels 29a together, or to move them away from the cams 23.
If the cam 23 is rotated a quarter of a turn in the direction of arrow a (fig. 2) when the rod 29 occupies the position shown in the drawing, the two journals 26 of the slides 19 and 20 are brought back towards the center of the cam 23 which brings the slides 16 and 17 closer to their pinion, the control claws 14 and 15 acting on the mechanisms A and B to thus completely secure the pinion of the gear actuated with the shaft 2. If on the contrary, when the same cam 23 is rotated when the heel 29a is moved away from the arm 28, the latter, having no support, simply pivots around its axis without bringing the journal 26 closer to the slide 20 , the axis of the cam 23.
On the other hand, the journal 26 of the slide 19 was actuated and, in its movement, acted on the mechanism A, and the pinion of the gear actuated, operates in freewheel mode. Each cam 23 is carried by an arm 31 connected to a lever 32 by a rod 33. The lever 32 can rotate on a fixed part 34 and has a nose 35, on which acts an oscillable disc 36 connected to one end of a connecting rod. 38, the other end of which is articulated to the pedal 37, a pedal being provided for each speed. The connection between the arm 31 and the rod 33 is obtained by means of a tenon 95 fixed to the arm 31 and engaged in a fork 96 of the rod 33. The tenon 95 is connected to the rod by a spring 97 applied to the tenon. 95 against the bottom of the oven.
A spring 98 fixed on the one hand to the housing 1 and on the other hand to the rod 33 tends to maintain the levers 32 in the position shown in FIG. 2.
An edge 39 of the disc 36, passing through its pivot point 40, is in contact with the nose 35. A rake 41 can oscillate about an axis 42 and has four notches 43 in which the ends 44 of the ends can be engaged. levers 32, in order to be held there against the springs 98 when the pedals 37 are released. This rake is connected by a rod 46 to a maneuvering lever 47 pivoted at 47a. By acting on this lever, in the direction of the arrow, the rod 46 pushes the rake 41 which releases the levers 32, in order to put all the speeds in neutral.
The disc 36 is placed under the action of a spring 99 which normally maintains the disc in a position where its edge 39 does not act on the noses 35 of the levers 32, and the pedals 37 in a raised position. That of the discs 36 which cooperates with the first gear 5, acts on a clutch shown in FIG. 8 and 9.
This clutch com takes a drum 48 integral with the pinion 5, and internally lined with adhesive 48a, for example, cooked or cork, with which come into contact four friction elements 49 also made of adhesive material, which can slide on excen surfaces. triques 100 formed on the outer periphery of a sleeve 101, on the inner periphery of which act the rollers 62 of the mechanism A of the first gear 5 described below. The engagement takes place gradually by control claws 73 whose inclined edges 73a gradually abandon the elements 49 until the latter are applied with force against the drum 48 by the eccentricity of the planes 100.
The claws 73 are carried by a slider 74a carrying a fork lever 75 articulated at 76 to the housing 1. The upper end of this lever penetrates into a fork 77 which has one of the arms of a lever 78 whose The other arm is connected by a rod 79 to a lever 80. The latter passes through a bearing 81 and comes into contact with the disc 36 cooperating with the first gear. A return spring 82 serves to keep the claws 73 in the position in which they act on the friction elements 49 to prevent them from coming into contact with the drum 48.
The disc 36 has an eccentric cam surface 52 intended to cooperate with a lever 53 actuating the accelerator of the automobile. When any pedal 37 is depressed, in the first movement effected by it, the lever 32 has been actuated and if we continue to act more deeply on this same pedal, the surface 52 acts on the lever 53 operating the accelerator. The disc 36 cooperating with the first gear acts at the same time on the lever 80 to actuate the clutch of the drum 48 described above.
Mechanisms A and B making it possible to freewheel or to secure one of the pinions 5, 6, 7 and 8 with the motor shaft 2 are as follows: In mechanism A, shown in fig. 4, 5 and 6, on the motor shaft 2 is mounted integral in rotation with the latter, a circular support 55 having a groove 55a at the bottom of which are formed eccentric surfaces 56. Two rings 57 and 58 can rotate freely in the groove that this support has and are joined by pins 59 of wedging arm 60 which are equal in number to that of the surfaces 56. A ring 61 is housed between the pinion and the support 55. This ring has recesses 64 in which are housed rollers 62, and which are applied against one of the ends of the recess by spring pistons 63.
A leaf spring 65 is fixed on the one hand to the shaft 2 and on the other hand to the ring 61. A pawl 66 which can rotate around a screw 67, carried by the ring 57 has a nose 68 cooperating with a notch 69 of the ring 61, and a shank 70 which is in contact with an eccentric surface 71 carried by the motor shaft 2. Two openings 72 are made on the side of the support 55, to allow the introduction of the control claws 14 and 15 of the slide 16 which must come into contact with the ridges 60a of the clamping arms 60.
The operation of this mechanism is as follows: suppose that the motor shaft 2 rotates in the direction of arrow f, and that the control claws 14 and 15 are not yet introduced into the openings 72 until they enter the groove 55a; the arms 60, the rings 57 and 58 and the ring 61, driven by the pawl 66, rotate with the shaft, but the pinion remains free (see fig. 10). If we introduce the claws 14 and 15 in the openings 72, the inclined planes 74 of the claws act on the edge 60a of the two arms 60 behind the openings 72 and force the arms and the rings 57 and 58 to rotate slightly in the direction of the arrow fi with respect to the shaft 2, by making the arms 60 rise on the eccentric surfaces 56 of the shaft.
By this relative movement between the ring 57 and the shaft 2, the surface 71 of the shaft acts on the pawl, forcing the latter to turn until its nose 68 disengages from the notch 69 (fig. . 11). This movement of the pawl also produces a relative movement between the ring 61 and the arms 60 by bending the spring 65 until the moment when the pawl releases the ring 61 which returns back under the action of the spring 65. The arms 60 , held out of their housings on the tops of the surfaces 56 by the claws 14 and 15, oppose the passage of the rollers 62, wedging it against the inner surface of the pinion that the shaft 2 drives in rotation (see fig. 12) .
The motor, at this moment, activates the shaft 4 in freewheel, if the motor shaft is braked, the rings 57, 58 with the clamping arms 60 and the pawl 66 stop with the shaft, the arms 60 cannot pass the eccentric surfaces 56. The ring 61 with the rollers 62 on the other hand, under the influence of its live force, continues to rotate until the pawl 66 falls into the notch 69. The spring 65 , during this relative movement between the shaft 2 and the ring 61, is tensioned, and the rollers 62 descend from the arms 60 releasing the pinion which can continue to turn under the influence of the live force of the car, while the charged spring 65 causes the ring 61 and the rings 57, 58 with the pawl 66 to return to their original positions with respect to the shaft 2, as shown in FIG. 10.
Mechanism B, mounted inside pinions 5, 6, 7 and 8 is similar to mechanism A, with the difference that it coasters in the opposite direction than mechanism A. In this way, when mechanisms A and B of the same pinion are actuated at the same time, this pinion is joined to the shaft 2 in both directions of rotation.
In mechanism B (fig.7), the support part 55 is integral with the pinion and no longer with the shaft 2. The rings 57 and 58, the pins 59 as well as the wedging arms 60 are mounted in this support 55 as in mechanism A. The rollers 62, housed in the ring 61, act on the shaft 2, and the res out 65 connects the latter to the pinion. The hook 66 of the mechanism A is reversed on the mechanism B and the inclined plane 71 with which the tail 70 of the hook cooperates is here carried by the pinion. The operation of this mechanism B is identical to that of mechanism A. The claws 14 and 15 act on the wedging arms 60 through openings 72 in the support 55.
A reverse gear device is interposed between the intermediate shaft 13 and the driven shaft 4. This mechanism comprises an angle wheel 84 freely mounted on the shaft 13 and an angle wheel 85 fixed on the shaft 4 Two references 86 connect the two pinions. A coupling sleeve 87 can run smoothly on the shaft 13 and is integral in rotation with this shaft by longitudinal splines 88. This sleeve can couple either the shaft 13 with the pinion 85, which gives the operation. forward, or the shaft 13 with the pinion 84, which gives reverse gear. This sleeve 87 is actuated by a lever 89 via two rods 90 and an angled lever 91.
A drum 92 is crossed by the shaft 13 on which is mounted a freewheel device forcing this shaft to always turn in the same direction, which allows the vehicle to start on a hill, all brakes released.
The speed change works as follows: After starting the engine, the driver presses the first pedal 37 which, in the first part of its travel, drives the lever 32 through the rod 38 and the cam 36. The latter, by the rod 33, rotates the cam 23 which approaches its axis, the journal 26 of the slide 19 which, through the fork 21 and the slide 16, introduces the claws 14 and 15 into the openings 8 of the device A carried by the pinion 5. In this first movement the journal 26 of the slide 20 has not been actuated, the guide 29 being at this moment in a position such that the arm 28 not being retained by the heel 29a, pivots in contact with this journal 26 without actuating it.
The driver by continuing to apply pressure on the pedal 37, the first gear being engaged by freewheeling, the cam face 52 of the disc 36 acts at the same time on the levers 53 of the accelerator and 80 of the clutch. pinion 5 which is done gradually. The first speed is maintained by the engagement of the lever 32 in the notch 43 of the rake 41.
To change to second gear, the driver only has to press on the second pedal which acts in the same way as for the first gear on mechanism A of pinion 6. During this movement, lever 32 of this new speed by engaging in the rake 41, pushes the rake 41 back and releases the first speed. For the second, third and fourth gear, the special clutch of pinion 5 does not exist, the driver releasing the pedal of one gear, which releases the accelerator at the same time, can make a smooth recovery with the pedal of the new speed, if it accelerates slowly until the pinion of the new speed is driven.
If you walk with the last gear and you want to put all the gears in neutral, you actuate the lever 47 to push the rake 41 and release the lever 32 from the last gear.
It goes without saying that the speed-changing device described is not only applicable to automobiles, but can be used with any other machine comprising a member which must be moved at variable speeds.
Of course, the embodiment of the speed change device described above is given by way of example only and the construction details could vary, in particular, the mechanisms A and B which produce the coupling between the pinions. 5, 6, 7 and 8 and the motor shaft, instead of acting with radial pressure on the pinions, could be designed so as to act with axial pressure against the sides of the pinions.
