Sur les dessins, donnésà titre d'exemple: Fig. 11, et lq sont respectivement, une élévation schématique d'un basà partie Ion- gitudinale, renforcée 2, formant fausse couture, et une coupe en travers de cette partie; Fig. Jb# le à 1P sont des diagrammes re présentant des moyens pour former cette fausse couture 2; Fig. 2 est une élévation latérale partielle et fig. 3 un plan partiel, partie en coupe, d'une forme d'exécution de la machineà tricoter circulaire suivant l'invention;
Fig. 4 est un plan, pris au-dessus d'une couronneà cames,de cette machine, repré sentant certaines des aiguillesà tricoter et un.dispositif permettant de rendre intermit tente la formation de la fausse couture; Fig. 5 montre le détail, vue par en-des- sous, d'un plateau central de ladite machine; Fig. 6 en est une coupe suivant la lign e 6-6 de la fig. 5; Fig. 7 est une coupe verticale suivant la ligne7-7 de la fig. 4;
Fig. 8 est une vue montrant comment sont conformées les aiguillesà tricoter; Fig. 9 est un développe ment des cames de commande des aiguilles de la machine, dans les conditions pour donner un fonction nement suivant le principe représentéà la fig. lb; Fig. 10 représente 'une variante d'aig#iIIe à tricoter pour la machine;
Sans gêner ni interrompre la marche de ce tricotage normal, un dispositif est prévu pour placer sur les aiguilles, en plus de leurs boucles defil k, un enveloppement de fil supplémentaire t mis autour du groupe d'ai guilles formant les rangées de mailles b b et toute rangée intermédiaire entre ces der nières, ou bien, dans le cas de la fig. 16, autour de la seule aiguille formant la rangée de mailles b. Dans ce but;
Mais, si l'aiguillen (fig. le) comprise entre les aiguilles ni est abaissée lorsque les ai guilles ni sont isolées et est ensuite amenée à passer de bas en haut en ligne avec les autres aiguilles, préalablement ait tricotage dufil k, lefil t est distribué ou entrelacé parmi les aiguilles ni n ni, l'aiguille inter médiairen passant en avant du fil t, comme cela est représentéà la fig. 9 et la fig. le;
Bien qu'on vienne de décrire la pose du filde renforcement t au moyen d'un groupe de trois aiguilles n', il va sans dire que le nombrede ces aiguilles peut varier suivant qu'on veut faire empiéter le renforcement sur un nombre plus ou moins grand de rangées de mailles du tricot;
  knitting machine for making from bottom to reinforced longitudinal part. The present invention relates to a knitting machine for the manufacture of stockings with reinforced longitudinal part. This machine is of the circular type and comprises, in combination with the knitting needles, a device intended to bring, to a certain place on the needle crown, a Additional wire , reinforcement, and means of isolation established at this place to isolate at least one of the needles from the others, from the point of view of walking of normal knitting, in order to allow it to be provided with said additional yarn and to engage or bind it, during the relative rotation of the parts, with the knitting stitches of the bottom being formed.
In the drawings, given  to  by way of example: Fig. 11, and 1q are respectively, a schematic elevation of a bottom  to  longitudinal part, reinforced 2, forming a false seam, and a cut across this part; Fig. Jb #  le à  1P are diagrams showing means to form this false seam 2; Fig. 2 is a partial side elevation and FIG.  3  a partial plan, partly in section, of an embodiment of the circular   knitting machine according to the invention;
Fig. 4 is a plan, taken over a  with  cam crown,  of  this machine, showing some of the  knitting  needles and a .device for making intermit attempts to form the false seam; Fig.  5  shows the detail, seen from below, of a central plate of said machine; Fig.  6  is a section along the line  6-6  of fig.  5;  Fig.  7  is a vertical section along the line  7-7  of fig. 4;
Fig.  8  is a view showing how the   knitting needles are shaped; Fig.  9  is a development of the cams for controlling the needles of the machine, under the conditions to give an operation according to the principle shown  in  in fig.  lb;  Fig.  10  represents' a variant of needle # iIIe  to  for the machine;
Fig. 11 to 16 are diagrams in elevation, to on a larger scale, of parts to reinforcement or false seam with examples of thread engagement additional with the knitted piece, as can be produced by the machine shown; Fig. 17 to 20 show, in a similar fashion, other examples of engaging additional yarn with the knitted piece; Fig. 21 to 25 show, in a similar fashion, still other examples of engagement of this additional yarn with the knitted piece.
In fig. there is shown a knitted stocking 8 whose tubular body is established without a sewn seam and has a section 1 (fig. 11 to 25) to </ B > reinforced longitudinal part, forming a false seam 2, which must imitate the sewn seam, characteristic of hosiery articles shaped to flat, this false seam 2 being arranged to extend across a part h , reinforced in the transverse direction.
As can be seen in in fig. 11, some longitudinal rows of stitches, b, of the knitted section 1 are accompanied, in addition to the yarns k </ B > and s of which the knitting is com posed, of an additional reinforcing yarn t, engaging with the knitted section 1 to the right side of two longitudinal rows of b stitches and passing behind them, in the form of floating parts yy,
located on the reverse side or inner side of the knitted section 1. A longitudinal row of normal stitches a 'is reserved between the rows of stitches b and the floating parts y Y ' of the additional thread t are subjected to a certain tension so to bring out the middle row of stitches a' à the way of a rib on the right side of the knitting, as shown to in fig. lq.
In the knitted piece shown to in fig. 11. the binding of the yarn t with the actual knitting is obtained by passing this yarn around the yarn of body k, at each stroke, in the rows of platinum stitches if slain between rows a and rows b .
- As shown in 21 to in fig. 13, a bond of the yarn t with the body yarn of the knitting can also be carried out in the two rows of blank platinum stitches on either side of the rows b and, in this case, the floating parts \, \ are shorter than the floating parts y and the texture is a bit more compact.
When the false seam has to encroach on a narrower part of the bottom body, you can use the texture shown in 23 to in fig. 15, with adjacent rows of stitches b , one to the other, without intermediate row of stitches, the binding of the yarn < B> 1 being the same as in the arrangement of fig. 11.
In some cases, the reinforcing thread t may be engaged or tied with one row of stitches b only, as shown to in fig. 16, the thread i engaging, in this case, with the thread of body k . skipping around it in the two rows of chain stitches flanking row b and floating, in y ', of a course to each other.
With regard to Figs. lb, le, Id, le and lh, in the case of a circular ring of needles, such as that indicated in n to in fig. lh # Cooperating with a guide-filkl for the wire of body k, guide between which and the pins there is a relative rotational movement in the direction of the arrow head, the needles take the k yarn and after that there is a transverse relative movement between previous loops of < I> k yarn and needles, to knit as usual.
Without hindering or interrupting the progress of this normal knitting, a device is provided for placing on the needles, in addition to their   yarn   k loops, an additional yarn wrap t put around the group of needles forming the rows of stitches b b  and any intermediate row between them, or, in the case of fig.  16,  around the single needle in the row of stitches b. For this reason;
it suffices to isolate the needles forming the rows of stitches b, the needles til for example, in a certain part of the course of relative rotation between the needles and a guide P for the additional thread t placed at the place of, this isolation. As shown at the #g. 111, Line of ways of isolating these needles is to lower, as shown in here, all the other needles n that are in the vicinity of the needles nor at the time of engagement of the latter with the thread t.
The thread is small then passed over the other needles to float, following strings or a diameter across the crown of needles. - If desired, instead of operating as just described. be indicated, we can achieve the same result by producing a lifting of the needles nor above the neighboring needles.
As shown in Figs. lh to J1, # If the wire t is able to be removed and retrieved (recalled) to measurement that the needles ni retreat away from the guide il and approach it again, as happens if it is foreseen, for the thread 1, a member of , thread return to ordinary spring, the, thread will be passed around the isolated needle (s) nor in a direction opposite to that of the relative rotation needles in relation to the thread guides,
as shown by arrows d in fig. the, Jd # the.
The yarn t is thus taken on the needles corresponding to the rows of stitches which need to be made thicker (rows which have < B> already loops of, body thread Ic), in the desired position so that it falls with this previous loop of thread k when all needles have again taken thread k in their hooks.
Since the needles here are ordinary tilting needles, as shown, the yarn t is driven < B> to so that it falls, either by placing it under the open rocker after raising the needles to release the previous loop of body thread, or as shown in fig. lb and 9, by leading the thread t on the scales or green of needles ni, needles that l 'we then raise as in zol, to bring their rockers above dut yarn i and to through their previous body yarn loops .
The knitting is then carried out again with the yarn of body k, as in In the case of needles to beak to spring, the equivalent position for the thread t is obtained by preventing the thread t when it is passed around the needles, to enter the needle hook.
To produce the knitting shown to in fig. 11, two needles ni being separated by an intermediate needle n (fig. Le), this intervening needle n 'is activated in the same way as the needles ni to receive the thread t in position so that 'it falls with the previous body yarn loop, the yarn i having passed under the needle switches to </ B > flip-flops shown, before resuming knitting with yarn k and then engaging with yarn k in places only (rows of platinum stitches between a and b)
where it bypasses the needles (fig. le), the -part of thread 1, taken on the needles neither n 'nor, for mant, after having fallen from them, the floating part of thread .yl, while the portion of thread pulled and collected across the needle crown to from the guide il forms the floating portion of thread y.
But, if the needle  n  (fig.  le)  between the needles ni is lowered when the needles ni are isolated and is then brought  to </ B> pass from bottom to top in line with the other needles, previously knitting  yarn k,  the   yarn    t </ I> is distributed or interlaced among the needles ni n ni, the intermediate needle  n  passing in front of the thread t, as shown  to  in fig.  9  and fig.  the;
knitting with the yarn k will then give the knitting shown in in fig. 13. If the needles ni are adjacent needles, without including an intermediate needle, as shown to in fig. 111, we obtain the cot sort represented in in fig. 15. If only one needle, nor is used, the additional reinforcement thread t, is passed around this needle and falls or is discarded with the </ B > loop of yarn of previous body, the knitting then having a single row of thicker stitches b, as shown to in fig. 16, wire t,
thrown and retrieved across the ring of floating needles, at y3, from one course to the other. The knitting machine shown in fig. 2 to 9 is of the circular type and comprises a needle holder cylinder 260 for needles n of the usual construction.
In ordinary machine operation, a relative movement in the direction of the arrow N, between the needle cylinder 260 and the cam holder 271 < / B> (fig. 9 and 4) on which the usual knitting cams 357, 360, 361, are placed, results in the needles moving up or down to knit the usual plain knit, in which a new course of loops is formed at each passage of all the needles in front of the stitchers 360, 361. As shown in figs . 9 and 11,
Knitting can be done in this way from to the right side of each needle, to in turn, with a body yarn k. < / B> The needles n are, as shown, toggle needles of the ordinary arrangement, some of which (fig. 4 and 8) have long heels n 'and some others shorter heels ïë, with the usual aim of allowing to one of the sets of needles, those to long heels Tt 'for example, to be put out of action and out of reach of any of the cams 357, 360 and 361 during back-and-forth knitting, as for the pockets of heel and toe,
on needles to short heels n '. The needles still contain the predetermined group of needles which are actuated differently from the remaining needles at a certain point of the knitting step, whereby the needles in said group are provided with heels shorter than those of the other needles.
The needles which have been operated to knit for example to the place of the cam 360, are threaded, leaving this one, to a level. intermediate 40, in which their flip-flops are not released through through the previous body yarn loops on these needles, so that, for knitting, these needles will have to be raised before receiving yarn and before being lowered to a point lower than intermediate level 40, for the purpose of knitting. . </ B> The machine also comprises means cooperating with a movable yarn guide sI à yarn of reinforcement to force the needles to < / B> ta lons shorter n2, to take in addition to the body yarn k,
when they are knitted at the place of the cam 360, a yarn of additional reinforcement, the means which cooperate with the reinforcement thread guide 'being such as to oblige this guide to remove the reinforcement thread above the passing needles, except when the group of needles which must receive the thread of reinforcements passes in front of the thread guide, the reinforcing thread being, by this means, obliged to float across the crown of needles, from one end < B> to the other of the group of n ' needles following a diameter, or substantially a diameter, of the needle crown.
The body yarn k is also supplied by a movable yarn guide kl and this yarn can be replaced by another or more other yarns, stronger for example, by removing the yarn uid It 'from its active position shown in FIG. 9 and bringing to its place a thread guide k ', or k,>, carrying titi or several other threads, in the active position to provide thread to the hooks of the needles. The k yarn guide 4 can for example be the one placed in the active position during the knitting of the heel and the toe.
The devices for actuating these interchangeable thread guides comprise a series of push bars 460 (fig. 2) actuated by control cams provided on a boss drum 120, moved intermittently over a complete revolution for example. , during the making of each stocking.
The movement of the reinforcing thread guide if, for its activation and deactivation during each revolution of the needle cylinder 260, can be produced, as usually by a cam 296 rotating with said cylinder and acting on an ear provided on that of the bars 460 which cooperates with the thread guide s'.
It was said above that we isolated needles to knit a group of needles' W to receive the additional yarn 1. in the arrangement shown, in a place of the crown with cams 271 which follows the cutting cam 360, the guide level 40 has a recess 41 in which all the needles n, < B> except needle group n ', may be lowered below their normal inactivity level on guide level 40.
All the needles which are at level 40 preceding the recess 41 have on their open scales, loops of the yarn k intertwined with a previous course fallen to l 'location of cam 360. Thus, all needles, except needles no, can be lowered to 41 without throwing or dropping their last loop.
To lower all the needles n, to except the needles n ', the machine is provided with an auxiliary cam 100, at soft re-entry and exit clothing, carried by a curved arm springing 101 with a hanging ear 102 (fig. 9 and 7) determining the retracted position of the cam 100 under the action of the spring arm 101, by the ratio to the crown of cams 271. The spring arm 101 is secured to the crown 271 at a point relatively distant from the cam 100, at the location of the screws 103 (fig. 4).
The cam 100 is bevelled at the bottom, at its front end 105, to form a descending ramp intended to be encountered by the heels of the needles to lowered and its rear face end is twisted from inside to outside at 106 (fig. 4) so that the arm 101 and cam 100 may yield from inside to outside, during relatively reverse movement of the parts, when the bevelled end 106 is encountered by a needle of any heel length, moving at level 40. By these means, cam 100 is made active to lower said needles to as those here meet it in the direction of the N arrow only.
Normally, the cam 100 occupies an output position, as shown in fig. 4 and 7, where it forces the ramp at goii anterior end 105 'to meet and to lower all the needles, to except needles not having the shortest heels. These needles do not pass through the face of the cam e 100 at the normal level 40 and are therefore in a higher position than the other needles throughout the extent of the recess 41.
The additional yarn t is supplied by the movable yarn guide il during the formation of the desired predeter mined part of the bottom only, an automatic device deriving its control from the boss drum 120 to control the positions of activity and inactivity of the mobile guide il.
Turning now to Figs. 2, 3 and 9, the thread guide consists of a thin elastic band, in metal, in which are formed passage openings for the thread and which is secured to one of the ends of an elbow lever T pivoting, 554, on the same axis as the other thread guide levers kl k- kl s' . A spring t2 normally solves the guide t ',
the rear end C of the lever T then being above a bar t4 guided so to to be able to perform a key movement up and down in a hole of a plate t 'secured to a fixed part of the machine. The lower end of the bar t4 is received in a notch il ' of one of the push bars 460, for example that used to actuate the thread guide k' for the heel thread and end of the foot.
The lever T and the guide it can then be lowered, giving said bar 460 an additional upward movement above the amplitude (idea of suitable movement, to put it out of action. organ or part usually actuated by it, such as for example the guide: wire k 4 .
A this effect, as shown, there there are outside the cams 501 provided on the tain- bour 120, to put the thread guide k4 out of the active position, a higher cam part 502, provided on the same cam circumference, to bring the lever T and the guide t 'into the active position in another predetermined part of the knitting operation. The t4 bar is easy to remove from the machine.
The lever T is formed in such a way to bring the thread guide it carries, sensdienient in the desired relative position with respect to the needle crown, to the cam 100, to the rebound 41 and to the other thread guides, a position which is shown in figs. 3, 9 and 11, at 1P.
As best seen in Figs. 3 and 9, the guide it is arranged to deliver thread t below the 1) arc crossed by the hooks of the moving needles at normal level 40. To allow access to the thread guide it when it is in this position, a discontinuity or interval d is provided in the internal cylindrical surface of the usual scale guard ring 550. A movable closing crown 565 is provided with a.
open- turk 62 to receive the thread guide il and bevelled tips 63 to bridge the gap d, when some of the needles are raised to knit back and forth.
Each time the cam 100 is in its normal position, the needles are not isolated from the others at the location of this cam, while remaining at < / B> their normal level, so that these needles receive the thread t as they pass the thread guide il, the remaining needles having descended the ramp 105 of the cam and being lowered into the recess 41. None of the needles, to except the needles W, meet the thread t. This phase of operation is represented by the key diagrams fig. lh to 1P.
In fig. lh for example, there is represented at I a group of needles ni approaching the thread guide il. These needles, having taken the thread < / I> t in their square brackets, pass to position II, the thread i extending in an increasing chord of crown of needles, and being pulled in the direction of the arrow g until it extends across a diameter of the crown of 'needles, as shown to in fig. 1111. During the remainder of the relative movement of the needle group nl with respect to the thread guide il,
the thread t is recovered yes recalled to through the thread guide t 'in the direction of the arrow 91 (fig.1h). The ul needles are also used for knitting with the body yarn k at the right side of the cam 360 in a normal fashion.
It will be noted that the yarn t was taken on these needles, in their hooks or on their open flip-flops, but that, prior to the reception of the yarn of body k for a new knitting stroke, the needles have been lifted, together with the other needles, passing to the upper surface of the cam 361 and thus have even left the yarn t below their open flip flops, so that yarn t is in the position of the knitted loops of the last course of stitches.
This ensures that the thread t will be thrown from the needles without having been drawn by them. With regard to fig. 11, the only engagement of the yarn t thus received by the needles ul which knit the rows of needle stitches b a ' b, in the aforementioned figure, is that which it has with the yarn of the rows of stitches of platins located between the rows of stitches b and the rows of stitches a of the knitted body.
The continuation of the revolution of the needles nor in relation to the thread guide it produces a continuous development of the thread t </ I> around the needles al in a direction counter to the direction of rotation of the needles, as represented by the arrow w to in fig. 1-. A The right side of the stitch of, knitting è (-3, in each revolution, this enveloping part is thrown over the head of the needles while being followed,
by another turn, , before passing the needles nor during the next revolution, at the location of the cam 360.
The part of the yarn t which is recalled and recovered during each revolution appears, in the knitting., In the form of the floating part y (fig. 11 ) extending from its point of engagement with body yarn k in one of the rows of platinum stitches to the point of engagement of yarn </ B > t with another row of platinum stitches, beyond the rows of needle stitches b a ' b, corresponding to needle in the next stitch course.
On the other hand, the part of the yarn t which was cut across the face or side of the hook of the needles jil when they pass in front of the yarn guide Il and was subsequently discarded from these needles, extends to the wrong side of the knitting, as shown at y 'to in fig. Il.
If, during the installation of reinforcement wire 1, the cam 100 is adjusted so that all the needles, y including the yils, are lowered in the recess 41 when passing in front of the thread guide II, the reinforcement thread t binds will be read again by none of the needles and it will float across the yes of the intervening stitches of the thread of body / c, as shown for example at y 'at in fig. 12 for an intervening stitch race.
If the reinforcing yarn t undergoes, outside of the return effect, still a forced tension effect, for example by to the use of a tension device established to this effect, the rows of stitches b a ' b of the sorted body will be tightened or gathered, or brought to protruding from the above the knitting surface.
Although we have just described the installation of the  reinforcing  yarn t using a group of  of  three needles n ', it goes without saying that the number  These needles can vary depending on whether you want the reinforcement to encroach on a greater or lesser number of rows of knitting stitches;
one could thus employ one, two or ten n 'needles. In each case, the relative rotation of the needle crown with respect to the thread guide tI has the effect of winding the thread t < / I> around the needle (s) ïzl and throw it away, with the loop of the previous course., In ordinary knitting to the place of the cam 360.
When it is desired to form a reinforced section in the knitting, as shown at h to in fig. 11, the thread guide sl is lowered to an active position during the passage of the needle group to short heels n ', the thread guide si being brought back from bottom to top, during the passage of the remaining needles, to determine the installation of the diametral floating parts of the thread s shown in fig. 11, and 1p as usual.
For this purpose, while knitting the lower parts which are not reinforced, the yarn s small, as is known, to be pinched, as in 7 (fig. Lh) # on a 5 disc covering a central plate 4, the guide: if it is inside of the crown of 'needles. Under these conditions, the floating part of the wire t (fig. Lh) is free to pass under the central plate 4 without meeting the wire s.
In fig. 5 and 6, the central plate 4 is shown provided with a conical boss 3 and a cut peripheral part 20, capable of to guide the floating part of the wire t below the respective parts 3, 4 and 5. The plate 4 turns, in this case, to </ B> in unison with the needles in the direction of the arrow to in fig. 5 and as its notched part 20 extends behind the position of the needles ni, the floating part of the yarn t < / I> can easily penetrate under the plate 4.
If now the thread guide has moved from the position in which it is shown in fig. 11, at the position where it is represented at in fig. Ilz, to begin to supply his thread to the leading needle of the group of needles to short heels no.2, it will be noted that the thread t will not meet the reinforcement thread s, the needles n 'and thread 1 coming to occupy the successive positions shown in figs. l1z,
l- and ln. The thread t which is on the needles will not have been left under their rockers at point 361 (fig. 1111) and the thread </ I> s will have been taken from the hooks of these needles and knitted by them at point 360. Shortly after the time indicated to </ B > fig. ln, where the thread guide has returned to the position of inactivity, we see that the needles do not pass the thread guide Il, therefore well before that the floating part of the s wire cannot reach this one.
The yarn s comes out of the knitted part in relation to a yarn or fall course extending to the back of the needles in a relatively low position. The floating part of the thread s pen ' therefore be under the El t, as shown to in fig. 10 and the latter continues to -stay above the floating part of the wire s, as shown at the flg. P. The children s t continue to pass successively,
as shown in fig. Jn # Io and Jp # respectively, as long as the reinforcing wire 1 is provided.
It is not necessary that all the W pins be adjacent to each other. The needle used to knit the row of stitches of needles ai '(fig. 13) can, for example, be one of the needles with short heels No. 2 . </ B > In this case, the passage of this particular needle W2 at level 40 after q a Mle has gone through recess4l brings needle n2 forward of the wrapping of the thread t received by the other needles nor , as shown to in fig. on. In this case,
the yarn i passes to the wrong side of the knitting in each row of b stitches formed on said needles n ', but it does not is engaged only with the rows & of chain stitches which flank the respective b rows on either side.
The formation in the knit, of the reinforced part 2 begins and ends with the movement of the yarn guide to and from the active position, as determined by the position and extent of the part of the yarn. cam 602 of the boss drum (fig. 2).
When the push bar 460 leaves the end of this cam, the yarn 1 is withdrawn from the bottom upwards, after which the rotation of its knitting stitch requires. this wire pass over the plate 5, as shown to in fig. 3, until the end of the thread t is received under the thread clamp 7 and cut by the thread cutter 16 of the usual kind.
As shown in to in fig. 111, the reinforced part 2 begins, for example, in a titi point below the bottom oui-let in the rear part of the latter and ends above the heel.
The arrangement of the members by which the yarn t is engaged with the row or rows of stitches to of the knitting without entering the loops or knitted stitches allows the knitting to be carried out without providing means for increasing the length of the stitches in the rows of stitches knitted by the needles used to form the reinforced part.
The yarn i can be of such conditions that, while producing the appearance of a false seam, it goes virtually unnoticed by being hidden by the loops of the yarn k or k and s children. It may differ, in genre or quality, from any of the others < I> son.
In some cases (when one wants to better enhance the appearance of a sewn seam), the thicker knitted part of the stocking body, acting as a false seam, may be established with portions released in this way. B> to look very similar to a sewn seam.
With regard to Figs. 12 and 14, these represent, at 20 and 22, the respective knitted pieces shown in FIGS. 11 and 13, but with the thicker part released in places, this clearance being obtained by forcing the additional wire i to < / B> do not engage with the body yarn in at least one course of the knitted body stitches, which course is denoted by x, the yarn t floating in y4 while knitting this stitch course.
Such clearance can be produced, for example, by moving the thread guide t 'so à to bring it out of the reach of the isolated needles W, at of the in predetermined times, or else by forcing the means employed to isolate said needles to to become inactive, or else by t) lowering the isolated needles out of the reach of the wire 1.
In the machine shown, it is the means for isolating the needles W which act with a view to said intermittent release, the cam 100 being maintained at its normal exit position during three or four successive courses and moving from outside to inside, to lower all the needles, during a following lesson.
A suitable device to this effect is shown to in fig. 4 in which a lever 420, pivoting at a distant point not shown, above and to the line of the figure, is brought to lean from side against a lateral pin 107 of the cam 100, so that the cam 100 or withdrawn in the exit position to allow the needles n 'to pass without lowering them.
This is the normal position of the components which correspond to the laying of the additional wire 1. The lever 420 being withdrawn to < / B> intervals determined in the direction of the arrow fl allows the cam 100 to enter for the desired number of courses to, </ B > additional wire clearance. The means for thus operating the lever 420 are known and need not be described here in more detail.
When lever 420 is removed, the spring arm 101 moves cam 100 as far inward as allowed by bolt 102. In this position , all the needles are lowered by the cam 100, but this has no effect on the knit formed from the body yarn k.
In the event that intermittent operation of the needle isolation means is not desired, at intervals of a few short courses only, the ear 102 can be bent so à always limit the cam 100 to a retraction movement just sufficient to make it lower all the needles ,. to l 'except needles n' and there is no need to use the lever 420; yes, this lever can be left in the posi tion shown.
The reinforced longitudinal part of the bottom can also be produced otherwise than has been described above. It is thus, for example, that fig. 17 and 19 represent a continuous reinforced part 2 and fig. 18 and 20, a reinforced part with intermittent clearances 2 which differs from the texture of fig. il, 13, or 16, on of fig. 12 described above, with regard to the specific binding of the yarn i with the body yarn Ic (or the yarns k and s in the reinforced portions of the knit).
In fig. 17 and 18, the thread 1 is arranged to connect rows of needle stitches b separated by a row of normal needle stitches a ', the rows of stitches b being connected by floating parts y y', < / B> under any tension desired to project row of stitches a 'beyond the surface of the knitting. The yarn 1 as shown, instead of just being laid around the loops of the rows b, is here interwoven in them with the yarn < / B> with body k, or both with body wire k and with reinforcement wire s.
The stitches of the rows of stitches b are therefore formed to both from a loop of yarn k between the laced and a loop of intertwined t wire. In some cases , (fig. 19 and 20) only one row of needle stitches Y or Y '< / B> can be formed thus from stitches to loops of yarn k and t intertwined and, if desired,
the texture can be with intermittent releases by forcing the wire t to float as in r in the course x '(fig. 18) or in the course x "(fig. 20).
To incorporate in the rows of stitches b, Y or V 'the additional thread 1, the loops of these rows can be lengthened in any known manner, such as for example by knitting them on one or more needles n 'which are shorter, from the heel to the hook, than the normal needles n as shown in fig. 9 and 10.
The additional thread 1 is applied to the chosen needle (s) n 'during their tenipore isolation obtained as already defined. - crit. To ensure the result shown in fig. 17 to 20, the additional yarn is provided to this needle (s) in the same relation, compared to previous courses and hooks, to the toggles and other parts of the needles that the main or body thread k, so that it is only thrown away with the next loop.
Turning now to FIG. 11, the body yarn k, supplied in kl, can be formed in the knitting body 1 by a stroke t () 2 iv for advancing and retreating the needles ,.
the yarn k enters the hooks of the needles n after their partial retreat from them in iv's and before they are completely withdrawn in tu. These needles cannot be insulated in any way that would allow them to take yarn k- normally and receive a wrap of yarn t. As shown, the needles n 'are allowed to remain in the advanced position at? 02 and they are then recalled at ivl' in line with the other needles, the thread guide Il for the i wire being placed in the region of their isolation.
Intermittent releases from the texture, as shown in fig. 18 and 20, are ensured either by moving the thread guide II, or by forcing the needles nI to to move the in the same way as the others he, titi or several courses #e knitting.
Variants of knitting are shown in the fig. 1-- and in fig. 21 to 25. In this case, the additional yarn t is interlaced, independent, intermediate yarn cry, with the stitches of the body yarn of the rows of particular needle stitches that are involved. reinforce to give a false seam appearance.
The knitting comprises a body B which is knitted into a yarn of body k in any way and in which the rows of needle stitches a are normal rows having one loop in each course: Successive, 1, 3, 5 etc., extending all around the knitting.
In one or more rows of b stitches b chosen to be reinforced, the yarn is! interlaced with a bo uicle of yarn k in this or these rows, in each successive course, the loops of yarn i </ B> constituting, in this one these rows b, titi course of intercalated mesh 2, 4, 6 etc., whose loops are, to </ B > in turn, crossed by the thread body loops of the following courses 3, 5, 7 etc.
The extra yarn 1 does not extend transversely to the knit laq-eur, but floats behind the yarn rows b from one course to the other, in the form of floating parts y (fig. 21) or y "</ B> (fig. 22).
When two or more rows b are adjacent as to in fig. 22, the loops of the same course of yarn i are connected by parts of stitches y ' of said yarn t and the floating parts y " of these are longer and form a greater angle with the horizontal than said parts y '. The reinforcement in the rows of stitches b may not be continuous, but as shown in fig. 23, have intermittent undercuts, the knitting having in the rows of stitches b # at the place of the courses 15, loops normals of the Ic wire only, the floating i wire, in Y3,
of the last additional course 14, in said rows of the next yarn t next additional course 17 of yarn i. - In some cases and as shown in in fig. 214, where the additional yarn i is not intertwined in a yes multiple course 15, 16 of, coi- s, this thread t can be wrapped up with a yes in many courses in which it is not interlaced, as shown in cc </ B > in course 16,
the yarn t passing behind the rows of stitches b in the form of a floating part y '</ B> and being interlaced in 17 with the normal loops of thread k of course 16.
In some cases, as shown in fig. 25, the knitting of the extra yarn t in the form of stitches in intermediate courses 21, 24, 26 etc., may have clearances, in course 22 for example, of the body wire k, the wire t floats in y ' and following, in the course 23, the yarn Ic loops of this course, so y form with them,
double cl yarn loops through which both the body yarn k and the additional yarn i intertwine in the loops of k body thread from previous lesson 23.
The yarn t is supplied to the needles nor in accordance with the wrapping phase of the knitting operation described above. With regard to fig. 14, the needles) it only can be raised, for example in iclo. , to open their flip-flops and receive le yarn t in It and, to from bed, be moved from above at the bottom to knit in K2 Sni. the ramp ic,
these needles and the remaining needles being operated as usual with with respect to the thread It, supplied by the thread guide Here, at KI main knitting race.
When it is desired to make clearances in the texture, the needles are not activated at one or more passes of the thread guide il; or when the needles are not, for one of the courses raised in îv ", but are not lowered ,,, ées in êv, the result is the knitting shown to in fig. 24, while, when the needles nl are raised in 0l in enough to open their scales, but enough to always take the thread t for the course at clearance,
we obtain the texture shown in in fig. 25.
