Fig. 2 et3 représentent le pro duit d'une phase intermédiaire résultant d'opé rations d'étirage.
Improvement of the to air valves of pneumatic tires. The to air valves of pneumatic tires for automobiles currently have, in general, valve boxes established according to two distinct standard sizes corresponding to two different diameters, the smaller of which, known as the number 777, is intended for light cars, while the larger one, known under the number 725, </ B > is intended for heavy cars. Hitherto it has been customary to have for each of these standard sizes a special protective cap to prevent dust from entering the valve box.
The object of the present invention is an improvement to said air valves Ae pneumatic tires aiming to be able to quickly adapt one and the same protective cap, to </ B> will, to one or the other of two to valve boxes of different outside diameters and, for this purpose, said cap of sufficient size to be able to be engaged on one or the other with valve box is combined with two ferrules arranged to be able to be screwed by an external thread y provided, indifferently, one or the 'other, in said cap and to be able to be screwed by an internal thread one to the box to valve of the largest diameter and the other to the box with valve of the smallest diameter.
Each ferrule will preferably be established to form at the same time the nut serving to adapt the valve. to the rim of the wheel. In this case, the nut preferably made of sheet metal, will advantageously be provided, on its upper face, with a depression to form an internal projection intended for to serve as a support to </ B > a packing washer. A the ferrule-nut which must fit on the to valve box of the larger standard size, the external thread and the internal thread will be, before nicely placed one opposite the other.
In addition, that of the ferrule-nuts which must fit on the to valve box of the smallest standard size will advantageously be provided with a contraction forming a neck to </ B> internal threading, to which follows a larger end part of the ferrule, provided with the external thread.
In the accompanying drawing, which shows an exemplary embodiment of the invention, FIG. 1 is a partially sectioned view of valve # 77Î complete with the nut serving to the adaptation of the box to valve on the rim and having an extension in the form of a ferrule and of the cap intended to prevent the arrival of dust at the valve screwed on said ferrule.
Fi-. 9- to 9 show plan views and cross sections of said nut to various phases of its manufacture, fi-. 9 showing the completed nut.
Fi'g. 10 is a hard cross sectional second ferrule nut fitted with the pressure-tightening cap.
In fig. 1, A designates a valve box of type size no 777. with an external thread, said box being shown as the smaller of the two sizes. type # 777 and 725 as discussed #p above. B is a nut screwed on the box A and serving to adapt it to a wheel jar and < B> C is a protective cap intended to prevent the ingress of dust into the valve box.
The protective cap C has a part forming a foot with an inside diameter greater than that of Yune and the other with valve boxes for which it is intended < B> to be applied. In fig. IÛ, the protective cap is shown applied to a nut E serving to adapt the box to bare rim and shown as screwed into a box to < / B> valve of the largest standard size (ri,> 7215)
to which it was referred to above. In fig. 1 and 10, the cap is screwed onto a ferrule forming an extension of the nut B or -ri, said ferrule being designated in FIG. 1 by F and in fig. 10. by the letter G.
In fig. 10 we see that the part of the ca puchon forming the foot is sufficiently larger than the with valve box to allow to the B ferrule to be interposed between the two, the ferrule having an internal thread serving to screw it on the box and an external thread serving to screw the cap protector. A similar ferrule, however, could not be screwed onto the to valve box of the valve of the type-size no 777, seen that evening inner diameter is too large.
This is why the nut B for the valve of size-type no 777 is provided with a ferrule having a Uri neck H of sufficiently reduced diameter so that its inner part thread can be screwed onto the smallest typical size to valve box. It also has a diameter J enlargement sufficient to be able y to screw the cap C.
It will be understood that the advantage of this construction is that one and the same protective cap can be applied quickly to boxes to valves of one and the other. other size and be removed quickly, the necessary screwing operation being limited, in each case. to that required to screw the cap onto the short thread of the ferrule. and no longer requiring it to be screwed high and low all the way through the to valve box.
The nuts B and E are preferably established in sheet metal and for this it has been d # uqe n heretofore, in order to be able to use commercial thicknesses of fired - for the washer K to provide something, a filling piece inside the inside of the nut so that the leather washer exceeds the lower edge of the # - raw. According to the invention, each nut B. L ', a, like moiitr # in fig. 1 and 10, A portion of its upper face L depressed to form for the washer K a J1 seat, protruding downwards.
The surface of the JI seat is preferably as wide as pw4ble and is sufficiently close to the lower X edge of the nut to allow the K washer to make protrusion on said lower edge, when the washer is established cry thick commercial leather. In the construction shown in in fig. 10, the depression of L is between the ferrule and the periphery of the nut.
In the construction of the fi-. 1, the upper threaded enlargement J of 1 a ferrule F over the said depression.
To establish the nut, one proceeds preferably according to the phases indicated in figs. '2 to 9. Fig. 2 and 3 represent the product of an intermediate phase resulting from stretching operations. The E neck is then partially formed as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. The nut is then completed, by first rolling the external thread on the enlarged part F of the ferrule, as shown in fig. 6 and 7, in y then practicing the internal tapping on the H neck and finally by practicing the depression 0 </ B > on the upper surface of the nut.
