Bougie Wallumage.
Wallumage candle. The invention relates to an ignition candle, the Pst assembly of which is cooled by means of a metal mass which is a good conductor of heat, the candle consisting of a central electrode rod surrounded by a cigarette. B> of mica which is itself surrounded by a metal part carrying a male cone which is attached to a seat of corresponding shape provided inside the connection screwed in the cylinder.
Several embodiments of the object of the invention are shown, to as examples, in the accompanying drawings. The first embodiment shown in elevation in FIG. 1 and in longitudinal section in fig. 2.
A metal mass 1 forming a single low-cut piece, best of all from wedge cast iron, takes a -threaded part intended to to be screwed onto the -cylinder, a hexagon lb and a tubular part le, provided with fins.
This metal mass is drilled through. , center, along the length a, b, with a hole which ends with -a seat 2 to 45 ' and a groove 3 </ B > intended to delay fouling and which is -à after the threaded part 1a.
A central electrode rod 4 is terminated by a slightly concave mushroom 5, , in order to establish a better defense against the projections of oil. This fungus com prime mica key washers 6- against a tube 8 which coats and holds the cigarette with mica 7.
This tube 8 is in -copper on its, greater length a, b; its upper part 8a is formed of mica washers.
In nut 9, bearing by a washer 10 , on the end of the tube 8, 8a, allows to wedge the mica washers 6 and 8a. Once this assembly has been done, the nut 9 is tipped to the outside diameter of the tube 8, 8a to allow it to enter the tube with it. metallic mass 1, or rather in a fiber tube Il which follows y , and at the same time on </ B> turns the tube 8, 8a to the internal diameter of this mass, y leaving the cone to 45 which must rest on the - seat 2.
This set, thus established, -is placed in the metal mass 1, the cone to 45 ' bearing on its seat 2, and the the -tightening and fixing is obtained by means of the hexagon nut 12, which is supported by an independent washer 13 preferably making a spring bearing on the fiber tube It </ B> which itself relates to the. metallic mass 1.
The to 45 ' cone must first be run in on its seat 2.
The elevational view fig. 3 and the longitudinal section in fig. 4 show some construction modifications which can advantageously be made to the candle described above, either for all its uses, or for certain applications and. especially when it must be used, on a rotary engine.
In the construction method described. above, the metal mass used to cool the candle is formed from a single rio-ide piece; in the variant indicated fi, ". 3 and 4, a portion is -constituted by a very powerful spell res Id placing in a housing the practiced in the part < B> lb of the fitting which is screwed into the cylinder; by its pressure, this spring resting on an independent copper washer 14, which bears on the Il fiber tube or another insulating substance, hand holds f strongly the cone to 45 ' on its seat 2; the whole is held by the locking of nut 12. A pin at 15. can be provided
The purpose of the use of the spring Id is to (keep it strongly the cone to 45 ' on its seat despite the key dilations the whole, the crushing of the tube 11 or any other cause.
Another modification concerns the elec trode and consists of to, the f area in two parts, the, rod 4 and the insert 5, </ B> the end of the rod forming a male cone and the part to being pierced with a corresponding conical opening. The assembly is done to force.
After mounting the mica, in turn, the protruding end of the rod is cut into a convex shape. The insert 5 may be triangular, square or some other shape having a number of electrode tips.
The purpose of this method of construction of the central electrode is to save material, since the rod is no longer taken in a part having as large a diameter as the head, and to have better resistance to high temperatures and high pressures.
Another embodiment of the candle is shown in figg. to and 6, which represent the latter in elevation and in longitudinal section.
The purpose of this modification is to simplify the construction of the spark plug and to make it more economical to machine, while retaining all of its essential characters and all of its advantages.
Here, the thin metal tube which, in the two arrangements described above, surrounded the mica cigarette covering the electrode, and which presented at its lower part the cone intended to be joined to the connection screwed into the cylinder, is replaced by a stronger part screwing into this connection and terminated in the same way by a cone, but the generality of this cone being inclined - in the opposite direction; by screwing the part, you press hard ment this cone against a female cone mena.-é within the interior of the fitting, which prevents any leakage at this point.
The aforementioned metal part is taken in a metal key bar (copper or steel) of hexagonal section, so that the hexagon necessary for screwing is made in advance and that one does not have. only to turn and thread 19. each.
Two groups of mica washers are placed around the electrode wrapped in the cigq, made of the same insulator: the first group between the mushroom of the electrode and the lower face, of the metal part carrying the male cone, the second group above this room.
On this upper group of immolating washers are placed the metal kingidc # lle and a nut screwing on a thread of the electrode rod, the tightening of the nut wedges the mica and one obtains a gasket between the electrode and the. part to cone, the cone for its part ensuring the seal between the latter part and the screwed connection to the cylinder.
The thread is not extended all à up to the cone, so that a small annular gap remains between the part and the fitting; it can be used advantageously for cooling the spark plug at this point, where it is particularly useful, by drilling radially in the connection of holes (six, for example) which communicate said annular space with the outside air.
In fig. 5 and 6 of the drawing, la, lb is the threaded metal fitting to </ B > its lower part to be fixed to the cylinder and tap6 to its upper end; to its interior is formed the conical seat 2. 8î1 is here. metal part which is screwed into this fitting and which is fitted with the male cone > destined & to to seal on seat 2; the upper paxtie of this piece has been left hexagonal to allow the screw wise. The heavens parts 1a, 1b. And 8a together constitute the cooling metal mass.
4 is the central electrode rod, provided with a à party forming a base; 6 is the group of of miea washers placed between the base of the electrode and the underside of the part 8a; 7 is the, mica cigarette. surrounding the electrode; 11 is the upper group of mica washers resting on the upper face of part 89:
13 is the metal washer placed on the mica washers Il-, 12 is the nut screwing on the tice electrode and assembling all the components of the spark plug by compressing the insulating gasket by the 'intermediate key the washer 13, 16 is the thread tie; 17 designates the small annular void formed above the cone and communicating with the atmosphere through the holes 18.
The fi (,. 7 to 10 inclusive, represent another embodiment of the spark plug, which further simplifies its manufacture and assembly and, at the same time, ensures better electrical insulation in the case of a faulty assembly of the mica key -cigaxette.
Figs. 7 and 8 are respectively the elevation, the- tion and the axial longitudinal -cut of the the spark plug.
Fig. 9 is here. elevation view of the central body comprising the electrode, with its insulation, #and the brass part carrying the male cone and screwing into the fitting. which carries the female cone. Fig. 10 -is the end view of the pinion of the electrode rod.
In the embodiments already described, the electrode was not furnished with washers over the height of la, brass part 8a which. wears the male cone, on this part of her! oD. () - u (-, ur she was only surrounded by the mica cigarette 7, so that her electric isolation was likely to be insufficient -in case of luck- this cigarette. In the variant shown in fig. 7, 8 and 9, there y has pucks around the cigarette -on its full height, without interruption.
On the central rod are threaded a series of rough washers 6 resting on the pinion chamfer, above which are placed other washers 22 which have been turned to the inner diameter of the, brass part 8a carrying the male cone, and which fill the entire height of this room; above is -Lin another group of Il washers with a larger diameter.
The shank once dressed - thus, and after compression to the, press, the washers 6 and 11 are turned while protecting the shoulder - ment on which the point of the male cone rests.
On the upper face of the part 8a can be formed a circular groove in la- which the mica is crushed under the action of the press, so that after the pressure the etan eity is perfect over the entire height of the electrode.
The same figures represent, for the mushroom of the rod electrode, an advantageous construction method which consists in placing a small washer on the base of this mushroom 9- 0 having two or more points 21 which are slightly curved in in advance and that it is easy to bend more or to straighten more or less, to adjust the length of the 'spark.
