Air pump for tire chambers. The object of the present invention is an air pump for tire chambers.
The appended drawing represents an embodiment of the invention, given by way of example.
Fig. 1 is an elevation of a pump; fig. 2 is a side elevation partially in section; fig. 3 is a section along the plane A-B of FIG. 1; fig. 4 is a detailed sectional view of the piston on a larger scale, and FIG. 5 is a sectional detail of a connector of the inflation hose on an enlarged scale as well.
The pump shown is twinned and comprises two cylinders 1 and 2 juxtaposed, connected at their lower part by 'a common bottom 3 provided with a foot 4 terminating in a ball 5 housed in the articulation 6 forming at the same time plate of base 7 of the pump. The play of the ball joint in the housing 6 is regulated by a screw cap 8. The plate 7 is articulated on each side to a pedal 9 which can be folded down for transport and used to hold the pump, with. feet, during operation.
Each of the cylinders 1 and 2 is provided with a piston 10 which can slide on a rod 11 in the form of a bolt of triangular section, screwed into the lower end of the piston rod 12, the upper end 13 of which is fixed in a plate 14, provided with a net 15, in the form of a removable handle.
The attachment of the piston 10 to the rod 11 constitutes a suction valve, in the sense that during the suction stroke the stop 16 of the rod 12, furnished with an elastic washer 17 and acting as a valve, is lifted from its seat, formed by the body of the piston 10, thus allowing the air which enters the cylinder through openings provided in its upper cover 18, to pass through the clearance formed between the bore piston body 10 and rod 11 and enter the lower part of cylinders 1 and 2 reserved for compression. During the compression stroke, this valve is closed by the application of the washer 17 on the body of the piston 10.
The sealing of the piston is ensured during this stroke by the cap 1.9, @ re held to the body of the piston 10 by the part 20. The cap, of which only the lower edge is in contact with the cylinder wall, is applied to 'tightly thereon and forms a tight elastic seal.
A connector 21, provided with a manometer 22, @de pressure indicator, is screwed into the common bottom 3 and serves to connect the pump to the air chamber of the tire. To this end, its end 23, in the form of a tubing, is threaded to allow the screwing of a flexible pipe 24 which is provided at one of its ends with a connector 25 (fig. 5), of which the melon. 26 is screwed into the tubing 23. The fitting ends with an olive 27 on which the pipe 24 is fitted and held in place by a ferrule 28 and a clamping ring 29. The other fitting 30, fixed in the same way as fitting 25 'to pipe 24, ends with a nut 31, by means of which the pipe is screwed onto the valve of the air chamber of the tire.
To transport the pump, the pipe 24 is unscrewed and it is placed astride the cylinders 1 and 2, as drawn in phantom in fig. 1 and 2. To this end, two tubular housings 32 and 32 'are fixed against the joint of the cylinders and protect the pipe, while reinforcing said joint. The pedals 9 are folded against the bottom 3 as well as siné in phantom lines in fi. 1. Finally, the net ma 15 can be unscrewed from the plate 14 in order to reduce the bulk.
During service, the ball 5 allows the oscillation of the pump body for both the suction stroke and the compression stroke, which greatly facilitates the work of the manipulator.
To absorb the shock and to increase the flexibility of the maneuver towards the end of the stroke, in neutral, the upper base 18 of the cylinder is provided outside and inside with springs 33, which are first compressed and which relax. then to facilitate the wise step from neutral.
The tubular housings 32 can also have another fcSrme. They can be constituted, for example, by a single tube enclosing the two cylinders 1 and 2 and leaving sufficient room for the housing of the pipe 24.
Among the main advantages of the air pump which is the subject of the present invention, there is. instead of mentioning the reduced bulk during transport, the flexibility of the maneuver obtained by the articulation. ro tule, allowing the oscillation of the body of the. pump on its base plate, the elasticity of the piston stroke and the easy passage of neutral by the shock absorbers, the yield resulting from the tightness of the piston and the coupling of the cy linders etc.
