La fig. 9 est également une vue latérale d'une partie du mécanisme intérieur, le mé- canisme étant vu du côté du bouton moleté qui apparaît sur la gauche de la fig. 7; Les fig. 10 à 13 représentent les différen tes positions de contacts à l'aide desquels sont établis les différents circuits de sélection et d'appel; Les fig. 14 et 15 montrent comment le levier du récepteur agit sur les contacts, établissant et interrompant le circuit de con versation;
Le fonctionnement de l'installation décrite, lorsqu'un poste extérieur veut demander une communication, est alors le suivant: On fait tourner le tambour 2 jusqu'à ce que le numéro ou le nom du poste appelé apparaisse dans la fenêtre de la boîte de l'appareil. Ce faisant, on amène la pastille isolante 11 à une distance du frotteur 10 qui est précisément fonction du numéro à appeler, puis on décroche le récepteur; ce décrochage a les effets suivants 1 Le prolongement 22 immobilise le tambour 2 et cela pour toute la durée de la communication; 2 la paillette 25 vient au contact de 26, ce qui ferme le circuit de sélection;
Organisation <I>des circuits.</I>
<I>1 Circuits de</I> blocage.
.2 Circuit <I>de</I> selectiotr.
3 <I>Circuit de</I> sonnerie.
4 Cireztit <I>de</I> conversation.
Si l'appel de P se fait sur le poste P,, les frotteurs 75 et 76 ne se trouvent plus en regard de leur plot de départ; par con séquent aucune sélection ne peut être effec- tuée et aucune communication ne peut être établie entre P;; et Pi à travers le multiplage. L'indication de l'occupation de la ligne est fournie à l'opérateur (le Pa par ce fait qu'il n'entend rien dans son récepteur;
Pira <I>de</I> communication.
Mais l'organisation mécanique des postes, telle qu'elle a été décrite fait comprendre aisément les autres conséquences de ce rac crochage. Dans le poste appelé P- rien ne se produit dans les appareils de sélection qui n'ont pas été mis ci) mouvement au cours de l'établissement de la connexion et pendant la communication entre les postes P, et P-.> mais le relais 42' cesse d'être excité, ce qui permet au poste Y= d'être appelé à nouveau par un autre poste ou de demander une communication, puisqu'à cause de la décon nexion du relais 42', le flasque 7' a été remis dans le circuit de blocage;
<I>1 Circuit de</I> blocage.
<I>3 Circuit de sonnerie.
<I>3</I> Circuit <I>de</I> conversation.
On voit, d'après ceci, que le circuit de conversation s'établit, en ce qui concerne le circuit primaire par borne négative de 670, re lais 540, ligne 680, 530, fil 740, microphone <B>750,</B> bobine 760 de self-induction, paillettes 501 et 450, 240, 230 (terre) et en ce qui concerne le secondaire par le secondaire de la bobine d'induction 770, récepteur 790, paillettes 520, 510, fil 690, paillettes 560, 550, frotteur 640, multiplage, frotteur 640', paillettes 550', 560';
Automatic telephony installation. The present invention relates to an installation for the automatic communication of various external telephone sets, combined with a central unit. The installation is set up in such a way as to allow at least selection and automatic communication following a simple unhooking of the receiver from the calling station as soon as the operator has brought a selective device to the number of the station called. On the other hand, any of the stations in communication can be called or can re request a communication as soon as it has hung up its receiver.
These essential results are obtained by means and combinations of industrial means which are an application of the discoveries made by Mr. Théodore Rafflaub during his work on telephony.
In the accompanying drawing, two embodiments and a variant of the subject of the invention have been shown by way of example.

Fig. 16 is a schematic view of the whole of the second embodiment, showing by way of example the connection with the central of two telephone sets; Finally, fig. 17 is a schematic view of a variant of the second embodiment.
The installation according to fig. 1 to 6 comprises a certain number of external telephone sets, for example subscriber stations, of which two P and -P--, only are shown in FIG. 1. For each external station, the central C has a selector station and <I> Ci, </I> Ca etc. These central stations are interconnected. them by a multiplication comprising two wires per central station.
The constitution of each outdoor telephone set is as follows On a shaft 1 mounted in the walls of the box of the device is threaded a drum 2 (fig. 3) in the shape of a bowl, the edges of which are provided with 'a toothed crown 3; this drum can receive, when you act on the knurled button 4 and as long as the receiver is hooked, a rotational movement in any direction around axis 1. On its circumference, it bears the numbers or names or signs corresponding to the other external stations of the installation.
These signs are for example printed on a strip fixed on the circumference of the drum which can pass in front of a window, not shown in the drawing, made in the front wall of the box of the apparatus. The bottom of the drum is caught between two flanges 6, 7 which are insulated from the drum and electrically connected to each other by some means, for example by one of the fixing screws 8. The flange 6 moves when turning. the drum, in front of a res contact exits 9 which establishes the link with the selection circuit. The flange 7 moves in front of a spring contact 10 which extends this selection circuit and connects it to an earth as soon as the receiver is unhooked. The flange 7 carries an insulating pad 11 inserted into its thickness.
The end of the contact 10 is on the path described by the pad 11, when the drum and the flanges are moved around the axis 1. On the axis 1 is also freely mounted a toothed wheel 12 (fig. 3 and 5), it carries in its hub an insulating part 13, to which are fixed by a screw or by any other suitable means, three spring-loaded friction contacts, one which is the contact 10, which has already been mentioned , the others which are contacts 14 and 15; these contacts are driven by the wheel 12 in its rotational movement; this wheel runs under a pawl 12 'which has no other role than to prevent the wheel from accidentally turning in the opposite direction to its normal running under the effect of the weight of the contacts 10, 14, and 15.
The movement of the wheel 12 is caused by another pawl, the actuation of which will be explained later. It should be noted that the three wipers 10, 14 and 15 are in permanent contact with each other and in short form a single wiper fixed to the insulating part 13 and driven as has been said in the movement of rotation of the wheel 12. In the diagram of FIG. 1, the contact 15 is represented by the wire element 15. The two contacts 14 and 15 extend the blocking circuit and the selection circuit, which will be discussed later.
Inside a drum and concentrically to axis 1 is installed a fixed double crown formed by the assembly of two washers 16, 17 assembled for example by means of screws and electrically insulated from one of them. the other by the insulating ring 18; these crowns are fixed and are supported by columns 19, from which they are electrically insulated, and which are fixed by any means on the box of the apparatus. In the thickness of the crown 16 is inserted an insulating patch 20 (fig. 5), which is placed on the path followed by the friction member 14, when it rotates with the wheel 12 around the axis 1.
When the device is at rest, the wiper 14 is in contact with the patch 20. The role of the crown 17 is to establish the electrical connection between the wiper 14, the crown 16 on the one hand and the rest of the selection circuit. on the other hand. -The hook 21 which supports the receiver carries at its upper end an extension 22 which, when the receiver is unhooked, is inserted between the teeth 3 of the drum and thus immobilize this drum; this hook also carries another extension 23 provided at its end with an insulating stopper 24 which, when the receiver is unhooked, push in contact with a spring pad 26 a spring pad 25 (fig. 6) constantly making pressure on pan 24; placing these pellets 25 and 26 in contact closes the selection circuit on an earth.
In the insulating block on which the pads 25, 26 and 27 are mounted are also inserted the spring pads 28, 29, 30, 31, 32. The release movement has the effect of pushing the contact 28 and 29 (control circuit). conversation) and simultaneously break contact between 30 and 31 (ringing circuit); finally, it puts in contact 31 and 32 (secondary element of the conversation circuit).
A n electromagnet 33, arranged inside the station and placed in series on the selection circuit, controls, when it is excited, the movement of the wheel 12 by means of a pawl 34 mounted on its frame. This electromagnet also controls the movements of two flakes 35 and 36, the contact of which closes one. selection circuit, the straw 35 being connected to the earth (FIG. 1).
A delay relay 37 is placed inside the station, parallel to the circuit of the electromagnet 33, this relay controls during the selection the movements of the straws 38, 39; 40 and 41. A second relay 42 comprising two windings 43 and 44 causes, when it is energized, the separation of the straws 45, 46 (selection circuit) and the placing of the straws 47, 48 in contact.
In the subscriber station is also located the ringing device 49; the winding 50 of the ringing coil forms a choke, during the conversation for the microphone 51 and the receiver.
The central has a multiplication. 52 common to all its stations and comprising two wires per station. It also comprises a battery 53 from which leave an earth 54, a negative wire 55, corresponding to the conversation circuit and a negative wire 56, of higher voltage, corresponding to the selection circuit. On the battery circuit is placed a switch device 57 of any system which can be controlled for example by a motor and also common to all the stations, and which plays the role of pulse regulator in the selection.
A delay relay 58 placed on the selection circuit and which controls the opening and closing of the selection circuit via the straws 59 and 60, and the setting by the straws 60 and 61, is also common to all the stations. engine running activating the switch 57.
The individual stations of the central each contain a delay relay 62 forming a blocking relay during selection and controlling the straws 63, 64 (talk circuit), 64, 65 (switch circuit 57), 66, 67 ( circuit: for energizing the call relay), 66, 67 and 68 (call circuit), 69, 70 (circuit of a wiper 75), 70, 71 (circuit of an electromagnet 72 controlling, by the pawl 73 the wheel 74 driving the rubbers 75 and 76). In addition, each station of the central includes a relay 77 controlling the movement of the straws 78, 79 (calling circuit), 80, 81 (circuit passing through. 83 of the calling station).
The operation of the installation described, when an external station wants to request a communication, is then as follows: Drum 2 is rotated until the number or name of the station called appears in the window of the the device. In doing so, the insulating patch 11 is brought to a distance from the wiper 10 which is precisely a function of the number to be called, then the receiver is picked up; this stall has the following effects 1 The extension 22 immobilizes the drum 2 and this for the entire duration of the communication; 2 the straw 25 comes into contact with 26, which closes the selection circuit;
3 the straw 28 comes into contact with 29, which prepares the closing of the conversation circuit; the contact between 30 and 31 is broken, which opens the ringing circuit of the calling station, and finally the spangles 31 and 32 come into contact, which closes another element of the conversation circuit.
Organization of <I> circuits. </I>
The stall of which it was mentioned previously being carried out, the circuits which are established successively and automatically are as follows.
<I> 1 Blocking circuits. The movement of the hook when the receiver is unhooked, causes, as has been said, the contact of 25 and 26; this contact closes circuit 25 (earth) 26, 46, 45, 9, 7, wiper 10, line and spring 15, electro 33, line 82, relay 62, spangles 64 and 63, low voltage wire 55, battery 53, Earth. The delay relay 62 then energizes itself away from the spangles 64, 63 puts 64 in contact with 65, places 66 and 67 in contact, and moves 68 away from 66; finally it separates 69 from 70. The nrultiplage is found as we see in fig. 1, off and this for the entire selection period.
With the blocking circuit traced above is combined a second blocking cir cuit established in the same station and intended to switch off, for the duration of the selection, the conversation and call devices; this disconnection is carried out by the separation of the blades 39, 38 (conversation circuit) and 40, 41 (call circuit) separation following the energization of the auxiliary blocking relay 38 which operates in the station calling the role played by relay 62 in the control unit. Because by closing the first blocking circuit we close a second branch circuit on the first. This second circuit passes from the wiper 10 through the wire 101, and the relay 37 to the conductor 82.
.2 Selectiotr <I> </I> circuit. The setting in.contact in the central of the spangles 64, 65 closes on the electromagnet 33 of the station calling the high voltage circuit 56, 57, 58 (which excites the relay 58), wire 84, spangle 65, pail lette 64, relay 62, wire 82, electromagnet 33, wire 15, wiper 10, crown 7, wiper 9; sequins 45 and 46, sequins 26 and 25 (earth).
The excitation of relay 33 causes the value of one tooth of wheel 12 to rotate. Simultaneously, the excitation of relay 33 causes 35 and 36 to come into contact, which closes the circuit: earth 35, 36, 83, spangles 70, 71, electromagnet 72, negative 56 of the battery 53. The excitation of the electromagnet 72 causes the central unit, by the rotation of the wheel 74, to move the value of a stud for each tooth displaced, of the wipers 75 and 76.
As soon as the wheels 12 and 74 have turned by the value of one tooth, the action of the delay relay 58 having produced, by bringing the straws 60 and 61 into contact with the straws 60 and 61, the closing of the circuit of the motor actuating the switch, this switch was activated, opening and closing alternately the selection circuit which has just been defined.
It follows that the wheels 12 and 74 are successively one tooth at each of the electrical impulses sent by the switch 57 and transmitted by the electromagnets 33 and 72. This rotational movement continues until the wiper 10, carried by the wheel 12, as has been explained previously, comes opposite the insulating pad 11.
At this time, the selection and locking circuits which pass through the crown 7 are open between the crown 7 and the slider 10; the distance which separated the wiper 10 at the start of the operation of the pad 11 being precisely a function of the number of the called station, the selection is therefore made at this time on the called station.
3 <I> Ringing circuit </I>. The rupture of the selection circuit causes the cessation of the excita.tion of the two electromagnets 33 and 72, then the cessation of the excitation of the relays 62 and 58 in the central.
If relay 58 is disconnected; the straws 60, 61 are separated and the motor of the switch 57 is switched off. The relay 62 puts the spangles 68 and 66 back into contact with the spangles 68 and 66, the last of which, thanks to the delayed action of the relay 62, still remains in contact with 67: a non-wise contact occurs at this time, which closes a passenger circuit on the call relay 77. This circuit is the following earth, battery 53 ', wire 56, spangle 68, pail lette 66, relay 77, wire 85, wiper 75 which has reached, as a result of the pulses, the position indicated in dotted lines, multiplier 52, wiper 75 ', thread 85', spangle 81 ', 80', 69 ', 70', thread 83 ', thread 86', 31 ', b0', thread 87 ', ring 49', winding 50 ' , thread 88 ', sequins 40', 41 ', earth.
The activation of the call relay 77 causes the contact of 78 and 79 and the opening of the contacts 80, 81; this movement of the spangles has the effect of closing the ringing circuit as follows: battery 53, negative 56, spangle 79, spangle 78, winding 77, wire 85, wiper 75, multiplication 52, wiper 75 ', wire 85', _81 'spangle, 80' spangle, 69 'spangle, 70', 83 'thread, 86' thread, 31 'spangle, 30' spangle, 87 'thread, 49' ring, 50 'winding, 88' thread, spangle 40 ', 41' straw (earth):
. The passenger contact between 66, 67, 68 as can be seen therefore had the effect, at the same time as it closed the circuit of its nerie, to energize the relay 77, and the relay 77 maintained the closing of the circuit of its nerie, when the passenger circuit is found cut due to the separation of the spangles 67 and 66, at the end of the operation of the relay 62. The ringing circuit is established, the call occurs. At the same time as this circuit was established in the called station, as has just been said, an auxiliary circuit closed in this station.
This circuit starts from the negative of the. battery and contains thread 56, sequins 719, 78, winding thread, thread 85, wiper 75, multiplication 52, wiper 75 ', thread 85', sequins 81 ', 80', 69 ', 70', thread 83 ', thread 86 ', sequins 31', 30 ', thread 89', winding 43; ot the sequins 40 'and 41' (earth). This auxiliary circuit energizes the relay 42 ', which removes the spangles 45', 46 'and switches off the crown 7'. This switching off of the crown 7 'has the effect of preventing the called station, the drum of which can occupy any position, from causing an untimely selection.
Simultaneously the excitation of the relay 42 ', following the establishment of the aforementioned auxiliary circuit, causes the contacting of 47' and 48 ', which will have the effect of maintaining the excitation of 43' when, as it will be explained below, the called set will pick up its receiver.
It should be noted that the call is perceived in the receiver of the calling station in the form of a hum which is due to the intervention of an induction current originating in a secondary wire 77a with low resistance disposed in the coil of relay 77; the induced current thus produced passes through the flakes 69, 70; thread 83, thread 86, sequins 31, 32, 39, 38, thread <B> 86a, </B> thread 96a through the receiver of the calling station, from where it turns through 92, 29, 28 and 82 to the power plant.
4 Cireztit <I> of </I> conversation. This circuit can be organized in any way, the one given below is given by way of example. It is established when the receiver of the station called P2 goes off hook. This release has the effect of removing the contacts 25 ', 27', of bringing the straws 25, 26 ', then 28', 29 'into contact, of breaking the contact between 30', 31 'and finally of establishing the contact between 31 'and 32'.
The 30 'and 31' spacing opens the bell circuit; relay 43 'remains energized thanks to the bringing together of contacts 28' and 29 ', which close an earth circuit, 47', 48 ', 44', 29 ', 28' 82 ', 62', 64 ', 63' 55 ' , battery, earth. The conversation circuit is established under these conditions as follows: for station P2 (fig. 2) 41 '(earth) 88', 50 'microphone 51', primary 91 ', wire 92', paillette 29 ', spangle 28 ', wire 82', relay 62 ', wire 55, negative of battery 53; for station P, the circuit passes through the corresponding components. As for the secondary, it is established on the wires 82, 83, 82 ', 83', in accordance with the indices in the diagram of FIG. 2.
The secondary for station P is therefore the following: winding 93, receiver 94, armature 82, capacitor 95, wiper 76, multiplication, wiper 76 ', condenser 95', wires 82 ', 92', rolling 93 ' , receiver 94 ', return circuit by 91', 51 ', 83', 75 ', multiplication 75 and 83. The conversation circuit remains established as long as the called station or the calling station does not hang up their receiver.
<I> conversation secret. </I> In the installation which has just been described, sec: i # and conversation is ensured: indeed, if a third station Ps (not shown) calls during the conversation for example the station P2 <B> already </B> called <B> é, </B> the dropping said receiver of Ps will cause in this station, the establishment of a blocking circuit and a circuit selection as described above.
But, establishing the ringing circuit, such. that it has been described above under 3 is impossible, since the straws 30 'and 31' in the station called R, have been separated from one another as a result of the receiver unhooking in this station. The set Ps is therefore completely outside the ringing and conversation circuits.
If the call from P is made on the station P ,, the wipers 75 and 76 are no longer located opposite their starting block; therefore no selection can be made and no communication can be established between P ;; and Pi through the multiplication. The indication of the line occupation is provided to the operator (the Pa by the fact that he does not hear anything in his receiver;
indeed, if it attacks Pz the relay 77 "of P; receiving no current from the bell, there is no induction in the secondary wire 77 a of the winding 77", therefore no hum. in the receiver of Ps. If, on the other hand, the operator attacks the station P, the opening of the multiplication between P3 and P makes any induction phenomenon impossible.
Pira <I> of </I> communication. Once the cotninunicatiori is finished, hanging up the up of the receivers (P. or P set) obviously eliminates the conversation circuit, since this hang-up has the effect of separating contacts 32 and 31 or 32 'and 31', 29 and 28 or 29 'and 28'.
But the mechanical organization of the posts, as described, makes it easy to understand the other consequences of this hang-up. In the station called P- nothing happens in the selection devices which have not been set up during the establishment of the connection and during the communication between the stations P, and P -.> But the relay 42 'ceases to be energized, which allows station Y = to be called again by another station or to request a communication, since, due to the disconnection of relay 42', flange 7 'has been returned to the blocking circuit;
It should also be noted that this attack on the set P = or the request that it can make for another communication are made possible with this resetting of the flange 7 ', even if the set Pc has not yet hung up its receiver. In the calling station P, the consequences of hanging up are as follows: contact 25 leaves 26 and comes to contact art of 27; he thus established a circuit 25 (earth), 27, crown 16, wiper 14, electromagnet @ 3, wire 82, relay 62, spangles 64, 63, wire 55, negative of battery 53 (earth). Closing this circuit causes the wheel 12 to move under the effect of the relay 33 being energized.
In addition, this closing causes the relay 62 to be switched on and thereby the spacing of the flakes 64, 63 from one another and the placing of the flakes 64, 65 in contact. Consequently, the circuit closes at high. vol tage traced above under 2 (selection circuit) which keeps relay 33 energized. By this excitation of the relay 33 a circuit is established: earth, 35, 35 83, spangles 70, il, electromagnet 72, negative of the battery. The energization of the eletr @ o-aimcrrrt 72 causes the subsequent operations described under 2 which finally produce the activation of the switch 57.
Thereby the high voltage circuit, mentioned above, and the circuit of the electromagnet 72 are opened and closed alternately, and the pulses thus sent into the electromagnets 33 and 72 'cause a successive displacement of 'one tooth for each pulse, wheels 12 and 74. As a result of this movement, the wipers 75 and 76 resume their movement on the successive pads, this movement continues until the moment when the wiper 14 comes to meet 1 a pellet insulator 20 inserted, as has been said, in the thickness of the crown 16; at this time the excitation circuits of the electromagnets 33 and 72 open and the latter cease their action.
As the wiper 14, integral with the wiper 16, was moved away from the pad 20, during the selection operations, by an angle corresponding to the number of pads traversed by the wipers 75, 76 it is therefore when these wipers will have returned to their starting pads that the wiper 14 will return to position itself in front of the pellet 20. At this time the station Pi has all its components returned to their rest position; he can call and be called.
In the second embodiment shown in FIGS. 7 to 16, there are no electromagnets in each outside telephone station; it is a spiral spring tensioned by the movement of a crank which causes the rotation of the selection wheel; on the other hand, there is no pulse regulator in the central unit common to all the stations, but there are as many electromagnets as there are external telephone buddies.
The constitution of each external telephone set is as follows: on an axis 100 which can rotate freely in the walls of the box of the device, is threaded titi hub 200 (fig. 7) supporting on one of its faces, on the side of the crank 300, titi positive drive with wedge exhaust carrying parts 4U0 and 500 (fig. 8).
On this hub is fixed the end of a coil spring 600, the other end of which is attached cri 700 to a fixed point of the box of the apparatus. A pin 800 which serves as an attachment to the spiral spring simultaneously makes the hub 200 and the axle 100 integral.
On the hub 200 is arranged a core 900 which can move longitudinally on the hub under the action of a fork 110 integral with the lever of the hook 110 of the receiver (Fig. 7 ,. 14 and 15). The core 900 carries a flange 111 provided with a finger 120 (FIGS. 7 and 9); on this flange a hemispherical boss that 130 forms contact with the end of a spring 140 electrically insulated and fixed to the box -de the apparatus. By pressing on the spring, the boss 130 pushes against each other the spring contacts 150, 160 which close the ringing circuit.
On the core 900 is concentrically arranged a toothed wheel 170, the small hub of which turns on the core 900; this wheel is made integral with the flange 111 by an axis 180 which passes through this flange. This axis is electrically isolated from the flange, which is itself isolated from the hub 200 and from the core 900. r1 the end of the axis 180 is mounted a pawl 190 which falls into a notch of the mushroom terminating the hub 200 of the side of the knurled knob 201.
A wheel 210 concentric with the wheel 170 and screwed onto this wheel, scrolls when it rotates with the wheel 170 under the action of the spring 600 in front of a pawl 220 which establishes, as will be explained below the electrical connections between series urn of spring contacts 230, 240, 250, 260, 270 and the selection circuit.
The axis 100 is provided with a crank 300 which turns idle on said axis, but which carries a pin 280 abutting against the exhaust part votante pi 500 fixed on the face of the hub 300. The crank also carries a finger 290 ( fig. 8) which immobilizes the my level by pressing against the hook lever 110 as long as the receiver is hooked.
In the box of the apparatus and eoncentrically with respect to the axis 100, there is also disposed a drum 301 in the form of a cup on board provided with teeth 310; this drum is provided in its center with a bush 303 in which the shaft 100 engages freely and to which a knurled knob 201 is fixed. The drum 301 can receive, when the knurled knob 201 is acted on and dries up that the receiver is hooked, a rotational movement in any direction around axis 100.
The drum 301 carries attached to it, but electrically isolated from it, a flange 320. A stop 330 screwed into the drum and the flange, protrudes inside the drum; this stopper is isolated from the drum and is not from the flange, which is connected by a spring contact 701 with the input of a relay 440, which will be discussed later. Opposite a point on the toothed periphery of the drum is an extension 3.10 (fig. 7) of the hook lever 110; extension which engages when the receiver is unhooked between two teeth 310 of the drum 301.
In addition to the apparatus described, each outdoor telephone set has an electromagnet bell 730 (fig. 16), self-induction coil 760, microphone 750 and a receiver 790.
. To each external telephone station corresponds a station in the central comprising a blocking relay 540 separating, when it is excited, the spangles 550, 560 and puts both the spangles 560, 570 in contact. provided with a relay 580 which closes when it is energized, by placing the straws 590, 601 in contact with the circuit of a battery 670 and an electromagnet 610 controlling the spring against the action of an antagonistic spring with pawl 620 in engagement with the teeth of the wheel 630 controlling by a suitable transmission the movement of the rubbers 640, 650 which move, when the wheel 630 turns, on the studs of the multiplication 660.
When the corresponding external telephone set hard receiver is hooked up, these wipers are always on the same pads.
All the stations of the installation are supplied with current by a battery 670, placed in the central unit and earthed by its positive pole.
The operation of the device, when the external telephone set P wants to request a communication, is then as follows: Drum 301 is rotated until the number or name of the set to be called is the number or name that is found with all the numbers and names of the other stations on a strip adhering to the circumference of the drum, appears in a window not shown, made in the front wall of the box of the apparatus.
Then the receiver is unhooked, this release has the following effects: The extension 340 of the hook lever immobilizes the drum 301 by engaging between two teeth of the latter, and this for the entire duration of the communication; 2 The core 900 is pushed by the fork 110 n of the hook lever to the left in fig. 7 and the finger 120 is placed in the field of the stop 330; 3 The crank 300 is released because, due to the release, the finger 290 (fig. 8) is put out of contact with the hook lever.
The crank is then rotated clockwise a little more than one full turn. Assuming that at the beginning of the rotation of the crank, the latter and the parts 360, 400, 500 of the drive device are in the position shown in fig. 8, it will be easily understood that by turning the crank through an angle of approximately 360, the part 400 abuts against the finger 360, which it drives until it comes to rest against the stop 380, which will make the part 400 oscillate; thereby the part 500 is turned so that it comes out of contact with the pin 280: the crank is detached from the hub 200, it goes crazy at this moment. The released spring 600 then drives, cry in the opposite direction to the previous direction, the hub 200.
This hub bearing, by evening notch, on the pawl 190 (Fig. 9), transmits by this pawl and by the axis 180 its rotational movement to the wheels 170 and 210; the wheel 170, co-linked with a squirrel cage 390 (fig. 7) and a single-blade reel 401 regulates the movement.
Passing under the pawl 220 the teeth of the wheel 210 alternately raise it and let it fall. This eliquet is provided with an arm 410 at the end of which there is <B> an </B> insulating roller 420 acting on the end of the spring contact 230 mounted on an insulating block 430, in which are also fixed the spring contacts 240, 250, 260, 270. As long as the pawl 410 is in its rest position (fig. 8 and 10) the springs 230 and 240 touch each other, while the springs 250, 260 and 270 are out. contact.
<I> 1 blocking circuit. At the start of the lifting movement of the pawl 410, the roller 420 detaches 230 and 240, and brings 230 into contact with 260 (position of FIG. 11).
Contacting 230 and 260 closes the spring circuit 230 (earth, fig. 16) and 260, wire 680, relay 540, “minus” line of battery 670 (earth).
Relay 540 is energized: it detaches 560 from 550 and puts multiplication 660 off. No current will be sent to the multiplier for the duration of the selection.
<I> 2 Selection circuit. </I> The pawl 220 continuing to rise, 230 and 260 come into contact with 270 (position of fig. 12). This closes the circuit 230 (earth), 260, 270, 690, 560, 570, relay 580 line "minus" of the battery '670. The subsequent energization of the relay 580 closes the circuit of the battery on the electromagnet. 610 by the contact of 590 with 601. The operation of the electromagnet 610 causes by means of the pawl <B> 620 </B> the rotation of a tooth of the wheel 630. The rubbers 640, 650, pass from their respective starting pads on the immediately neighboring pads.
The roller 220 falling behind the tooth of the wheel 210, the contacts 270, 260 and 230 are separated (fig. 13), the electromagnet 610 is switched off, the pawl 620 falls behind the tooth that he trained.
The same operations occur each time a tooth of the wheel 210 passes under the pawl 220 throughout the rotation of said wheel. When this rotation is stopped by the meeting of the finger 120 and the stop 330, the selection is obtained; indeed, the number of teeth of the wheel 210 which have passed under the pawl 220 corresponds to the number which has been brought into the window, and on the other hand, the wheel 630 of the central station Ci has turned by an equal number teeth.
The wipers 640, 650 are consequently placed on the pads to which the multiplication wires end up extending the circuit of the external station Ps which corresponds to the number brought into the aforementioned window of the calling station R.
<I> 3 Bell circuit. At </I> the moment when the stop 330 has immobilized the wheel 210, the pawl 220, under the pressure of the spring 230, began to descend again into the teeth of the wheel 210. The set of springs 270, 260. 230, 250, 240 occupies the position shown in FIG. 13. In this position, the spring 230 is in contact with the spring 240, which is itself in contact with the spring 250.
The ringing circuit is established as follows: 230, 240, 250, 140, finger 120, stop 330, spring 701, relay 440, line 690, 560, 640, multiplication, 640 ', central station contactor Cz corresponding to the station called P3, 550 ', 560', line 690 ', contact 160', 150 ', wire 710', buzzer 720 ', wire 730', spring 490 ', in contact with 480', since the receiver is hooked, line 680 ', relay 540', negative terminal of battery 670. The relay 540 'being established at a resistance lower than the resistance of the circuit is not energized. The ringtone starts ringing.
The pawl 220 continuing to descend, the contact is broken between 240 and 250, but the ringing circuit is reestablished, thanks to the excitation during the .phase. of the relay 440 which brought the flakes 450 and 460 into contact. The ringing therefore continues to ring, the circuit being established as defined by 230, 240, 450; 460 relay 440, line 690, 560, 550, 640 multiplication 640 ', 690', 150 ', 160', 710 ', ringing 720', wire <B> 7 </B> 30 ', 490', 480 ', 680 ', negative terminal of 670.
The call is, as in the first embodiment, perceived in the receiver of the calling station in the form of a snoring, which is said to the intervention of an induction current originating in a wire. 470 low resistance, disposed in the coil of relay 440.
<I> 3 </I> <I> conversation </I> circuit. It is established by unhooking the receiver of the station called P :. This release 1 Detaches contact 480 'from contact 490'. This opens the circuit of wire 680 '(bell circuit); the ringing stops. The excitation of relay 440 which is, as has been said, in series in the calling station on the ringing circuit, is suppressed. This deletion brings about the reconnection in station P of 450 with 501 and 510 with 520; 2 Contact 480 touches contact 530 '. which closes the conversation circuit.
It can be seen, from this, that the conversation circuit is established, as regards the primary circuit by negative terminal of 670, relays 540, line 680, 530, wire 740, microphone <B> 750, </ B> self-induction coil 760, spangles 501 and 450, 240, 230 (earth) and as regards the secondary by the secondary of the induction coil 770, receiver 790, spangles 520, 510, thread 690, spangles 560, 550, slider 640, multiplication, slider 640 ', flakes 550', 560 ';
690 'thread, 510', 520 'spangles, 790' receiver, 770 'induction coil secondary, 530', 480 'contacts, 680' thread, 780 'capacitor, 650' wiper, multiplier, 650 wiper, capacitor 780, wire 680, pail lettes 480, 530, wire 740 and secondary of the induction coil 770.
All the other circuits have been opened, as explained previously by the play of the various relays.
When the communication is finished, hanging up one of the receivers (set called Pa or calling set P) obviously eliminates the conversation circuit, since this hanging up has the effect of separating contacts 530 and 480, respectively 530 'and 480 '.
But the mechanical organization of the posts which has been described previously makes it easy to understand the other consequences of this. hang up.
We see in fact that in the station calling the core 900, the flange 110 and the finger 120 are returned mechanically to their original position, shown in FIG. 10. As a result, the finger 120 being moved out of the reach of the stop 330, (read the spiral spring 60 will be able to continue to drive the wheel 210 in its rotation; this wheel causes each passage of its teeth under the pawl 220 an impulse transmitted mechanically to the wheel 630 by the electromagnet 610, the selection circuit described above under 2 being closed again. The rubbers 640, 650 therefore return from pad to pad, referring to starting block.
Due to the rotation of the hub 200 in the calling apparatus, the pivoting parts 400, 500 are driven by the flanges of the hub 200 in a direction opposite to that indicated by the arrow in FIG. 8; until the part 400 abuts against the finger 360; it drives the latter and when it is applied against the stop 370, it turns the part 500 in such a way that the two parts are in the position shown in FIG. 8.
The wheel 210 stops, no electrical impulse is transmitted to the electromagnet 610 and this suspension coincides precisely with the moment when the rubbers 640, 650 have come back to their starting blocks; simultaneously the drum 300 is released.
It follows from all this that, at the time which has just been considered, all the parts of the calling station, all the relays both of the calling station and of the corresponding central station are found to have been automatically rowed in the same position they occupied. before communication, the phases of which have just been described.
The apparatus is ready, either i), to request a new communication, or to receive one, because it should be noted, in fact, that the calling circuit in the station thus restored to idle has been reestablished by the contact of the spells 150 and 160 pushed against each other by the arrival on the springs of the boss 130 of the flange 111.
Conversation secrecy is guaranteed: indeed, if a third set Ps calls during the conversation; for example, the station Pz already called, the unhooking of the receiver of P; will cause the selection and the start of the call in this station, but this call cannot be made on the ringing circuit of station P ,, since springs 4800 'and 490' of this station Ps are no longer active. contact.
The receiver and the microphone of the P3 station being thus disconnected, the operator will hear nothing in the receiver and will be warned by this silence that the line is busy.
This faculty of small conversational secrecy, moreover, if desired, be suppressed in the installation, either in whole or in part. It suffices for this (to ensure, by any device, the iridescence in permanent contact with the flakes 501, 450 and 520, 460, either of one of the stations, or of several stations, or of the whole depending on the combination that one wishes to obtain.
This embodiment, without conversation secrecy which consists in sum in removing the relay 440 is shown in the variant according to FIG. 17, in which the call is not automatic.
