le soulèvement de oe diaphragme déclenchant momentanément un barillet-mo- teur dont l'action produit en même temps l'arrivée du gaz à des tubes d'allumage et la rotation d'une molette d'acier produisant urne étincelle d'allumage;
Apparatus for producing the ignition and extinction (the gas jets. The object of this invention is an apparatus intended to produce the ignition and extinction of gas jets which must remain on for different times. The apparatus com takes a diaphragm, the lifting of which, produced by an overpressure of gas produced at the factory, determines the displacement of a pin opening the gas inlet to a burner to be lit all night, called a permanent burner,
the lifting of the diaphragm momentarily triggering an engine barrel, the action of which simultaneously produces the arrival of gas to the ignition tubes and the rotation of a steel wheel producing an ignition spark;
the apparatus also comprises a clockwork movement with continuous movement, of which a hand, at a determined moment of uvance, after the permanent nozzle has been lit, releases the motor-barrel which activates a second needle which opens the step wise gas to a nozzle that must remain lit for a shorter time than the permanent nozzle, called temporary nozzle,
the function of the clockwork movement again being to trigger the motor barrel a third time to produce the extinction of the temporary nozzle, the extinction of the permanent nozzle being achieved by a vacuum produced at the factory, which lowers the diaphragm and close the gas inlet needle at the permanent nozzle.
An apparatus such as the aforesaid can be placed at any place of inn candelabra; it will be arranged, for example, below the base of the lantern or in the shaft of the column of the candelabra; the motor barrel and the clockwork movement may be mounted in the same box or be separate.
The drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a front view of the apparatus; the box which envelops it is supposed to be removed, the support plate is only partially torn off to reveal the dial divided into 24 hours; Fig. 2 is a view of the rear face of the device, when the permanent nozzle is switched on; Figs. 3 to 8 show construction details.
At the lower part of the apparatus of fig. 1 to 8 is arranged, in a box 1, which receives the gas from the pipeline through the pipe 2, a diaphragm 3 made of non-rubberized material, gas-tight, not stretched, so that its movements produce neither elongation nor contraction capable of opposing the seal between the membrane and the bowl 1. The diaphragm 3 is integral with a rod 4 which carries a needle 5 allowing the gas to flow to the pipe 6 which ends at the permanent burner of the candelabra.
Connection 12 is intended to supply gas to the temporary burners.
The rod 4 is guided at its upper part in a stirrup 7, and a bead spring 8, interposed between this stirrup and the top of the diaphragm, tends to lower the latter when the gas pressure of the pipe is suitably scaled down.
The upper end of the rod 4, which end is also adjustable, acts below a lever 9 which pivots at 10 on a support 11. The point of this lever 9 also acts below a lever 13 , 14, part 13 of which forms a counterweight. The branch 14 of this lever has its upper end disposed below a finger 15 carried by a lever. V 16, 17.
The detail of this command is shown separately in fig. 3 which shows the different parts in the position they occupy when the diaphragm 3 has been lifted by the arrival of the over-pressurized gas. The finger 1 5 is integral with an arm 18 pivots both at 19 on the end of the arm 16; at its other end this arm 18 rests on top of the lever 16 by a heel 20 (see the detail in fig. 4 which is a vertical section through line 4-4 of fig. 3).
This arrangement allows the arm 14 to lift the arm 16 when the diaphragm 3 is lifted by the gas overpressure; the arm. 14 can very easily resume its resting position (fig. 1) from the position it occupies (fig. 3) because the part formed by the finger 15 and the arm 18 can easily pivot at 19.
The arm 17 of the V-lever is. intended to trigger the motor barrel, the axis of which is shown at 21 in FIG. 1.
This motor barrel (fig. 1 and 7) is constituted by a spiral spring disposed in a box 22, the periphery of which is toothed to mesh with the pinion 23 which, by means of wheels and intermediate pinions 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 actuates the movement moderator 31. On the pinion axis 29 is mounted the toothed wheel 30 which carries a pin 32 which is intended to stop on a cleat 33 which the arm 17 carries to its end (fig. 6 and 7).
The axis which carries the toothed wheel 24 also carries a large valley 34 (shown only by a circle punctuated in fig. 1 and seen in detail in fig. Li and 7) which has three notches 35, 36 around its periphery. and 37 intended to receive a finger 38 carried by a lever 39 on the end 40 of which comes to a stop a pin 41 carried by the toothed wheel 28.
Fig. 7 shows the wheel 34 in the position it occupies when the ignition of the permanent brfileur has just been carried out, this wheel rotating in the direction of arrow a.
At the start, the finger 38 is engaged in the notch 35. When the motor barrel is first triggered, produced as will be explained later by means of the overpressure, the finger 38 is released from the notch 35 and the barrel- The motor is set in motion by rotating the wheel 34, which produces the ignition of the permanent burner. When ignition is carried out, the motor barrel 22 stops and the finger 38 engages in the second notch 36. On the second triggering of the motor barrel, determined by a hand driven by the clock movement , the finger 38 is released from the notch 36, the wheel 34 rotates until the finger 38 engages in the notch 37.
This second triggering causes the opening of the temporary nozzles.
Finally, at the third triggering carried out by means of a second mobile needle, the motor barrel starts to rotate until the finger 38 falls back into the notch 35, that is to say the starting position. . The function of this third tripping is to suppress the arrival of aux gas. temporary beaks, which realizes their extinction.
In these three circumstances, the lever 39 presents its end on the. path of pin 41 of wheel 28.
The finger 38 will thus remain in the notch 35 of the wheel 34 until the next day, while the device will be put into action again by the overpressure.
The lever 39 on which the pin 41 abuts is mounted on a pin 42 which carries on the outside an arm 43 on which a spring 44 acts.
The pinion axis 23 carries (see the rear face, in fig. 2, and fig. 5 which is a detail of the device driven by the motor barrel, seen from this same side) a toothed sector 45 which meshes with the wheel 46 rotates freely around its fixed axis 47.
The wheel 46 carries in its center a sleeve through which the axis passes, on which is wound and fixed a spiral spring 48, the end of which is fixed at 49. The wheel 46 in mesh with a wheel 50 mounted on the axis which carries the grinding wheel 51 intended to rub against the ferro-cerium stone 52 carried by an arm 53 on which a res blade comes out 54.
The toothed sector 45 carries, set back from the level of its teeth, a single tooth 55 which aims to act on the pallet 56 carried by a flexible blade 57, which is secured to an arm 58 pivoting at 59. This arm 58 acts on the rod 60 of the needle 61, which needle opens or closes the admission of gas to the ignition tube 62 which is supplied by the pipe 63. A coil spring 64 disposed around the body of the needle 61 tends to rele ver this needle to apply it against its seat and shut off the gas supply to the ignition tubes. The lower part of the body of the needle carries a cone 65 which is intended, by pressing against a circular lower bearing surface, to prevent gas from being able to pass around the rod 60 of the needle.
This sealing of the gas by the conical bearing surface 65 is ensured by the elasticity of the blade 57 on which acts. tooth <B> 55; </B> in fact this tooth 55, acting on the pallet 56, first determines the opening of the needle 61 and ensures proper application of the cone 65 on its circular bearing surface; it is only then that the blade 57 flexes and lets the tooth 55 pass.
On the toothed sector 45 is also applied a part having an elongated tooth-shaped finger 66 which has the function of meeting a pallet 67 which is a little in front of the pallet 56; it is arranged at the end of a rod 68 which is integral with an arm 69 pivoting at 70, which arm 69 controls the rod 71 integral with the needle 72 which gives gas access to the temporary burners of the candelabra via the pipe 73. The needle 72 also has a conical bearing 74 which prevents any leakage of gas around the rod 71. The spring 75 which surrounds the body of the needle tends to lift the latter.
The bearing of this needle 72, below the point, like that of the needle 61, is cylindrical and fills the guide chamber of the needle; this cylindrical bearing that is only provided (see the plan fig.8) with a cutout 76 through which the gas passes.
The sector 45 also has, at the level of the long tooth 66, a finger 77 which has the function of striking a stopper 78 carried by the toothed wheel 46 with which the toothed sector 45 engages. This finger 77 drives the wheel 46 by the 'intermediary of finger 78, when the sector 45 has its last teeth in mesh with those of this wheel 46, and this drive by the finger 77 persists until the last tooth of the sector is disengaged. As in this driving movement of the wheel 46 the spiral spring 48 binds, this wheel 46 returns back under the action of the spring; after the action of the finger 77, the teeth of the wheel 46 can pass freely; without being exposed to meet the last tooth of sector 45.
The clock barrel 79 carries a toothed wheel 80 which transmits the movement <B> -to </B> an axis 81 via the toothed wheels 82, 83 ,. 8.4. . Axis 81 is integral with a dial 85 which rotates in the direction of arrow G. This dial is divided from 0 to 24. On the axis 80 are mounted two idlers <B> 86 </B> and 87 , of which or fixes the position by means of a nut 88.
The needle 86 comes into action to ignite the temporary nozzles; for this purpose the end of this needle acts on the inclined face of a knife 89 carried by an arm 90 which pivots at 91 and is integral with an arm 92, the end of which carries a finger 93 to act on the branch 17 of the V-shaped lever. The raising of this lever 17 moves the arm 43 connected by the axis 42 to the arm 39 (fig. 7) so that the finger 38 of the latter moves away from the notch 36 of the wheel 31 in which this finger is then notched: this wheel is immediately set in motion by the motor barrel, because the various gears which are connected to it are free since the pin 41 is no longer retained by the lever 39.
These gears therefore turn as well as the wheel 30, until the pin 32 comes to rest on the latch 33 of the lever 17 which is still high. When the tip of needle 86 has passed the lower edge of knife 89, this knife descends against the left side of needle 86. Levers 90 and 92 descend and branch 17 of the V-lever pushed by the lever. -13 and the spring 44a returns to its original position and abandons the pin 32 of the wheel 30, so that the mechanism no longer retained can rotate, causing the notch wheel 34.
Then, the branch 17 of the V-shaped lever comes to its original position with the lever 39, the finger 38 of which enters the notch 37. The end of this lever comes, as was previously explained, to constitute a stop for the pin 41 and the mechanism stops.
During the first rotational movement produced by the overpressure, which has been described, of the spring barrel 22 for igniting the permanent burner, the wheel 46 has turned driving the idler wheel 50 on the axis 94 and which carries a pawl intended to act on a ratchet wheel integral with the wheel 51.
The arrangement of the pawl made it possible for the wheel not to follow this movement; but the wheel 46, while turning, has strained the spiral spring 48, and, when this wheel is abandoned by the toothed sector 45, it is this res comes out 48 which, by suddenly being released, produces the rotation in the opposite direction of this wheel 46 and consequently the drive by the aforementioned ratchet and pawl of the wheel 51 which, by rubbing against the ferro-cerium stone, produces a lively spark which ignites the gas jet which leaves the bunsen 62.
Above the bunsen 62 is arranged a cap 95 in which part of the gas leaving the bunsen 62 is diffused at the same time as the spark spreads under this cha skin, which has the effect of surely igniting said buiisen.
When, at the desired moment, the gas is made to arrive at the temporary burners, these are ignited by themselves, owing to their proximity to the permanent burners.
It will be understood from the above explanations that the apparatus being at rest as shown in FIG. 1, the arrival of the gas supercharged by the pipe 2 determines the rise of the diaphragm \ .- 3 and the lifting of the needle 5 so that the gas arrives through the pipe 6 at the permanent nozzle. It also arrives via connection 63- * to ignition tube 62.
The feed needle 61 was opened by the action of the motor barrel 22 which was released by the fact that the gears in connection with it could have turned because the pin 4 1 of the wheel 28 was no longer retained by the lever 39, the branch 16 of the front V-lever has been raised by the lever 14 actuated by the diaphragm 3.
The bunsen <B> 62 </B> ignited by the spark under the conditions which have just been explained therefore produces its action and ignites the permanent burner by means of ignition tubes of different height which transmit the flame from close to close to the beak. The barrel let 22 having continued to rotate, the finger 5.3 (fig. 2) passed in front of the pallet 56 by bending its elastic blade 57 and the pin 61 of the ignition tubes closes the new arrival port. gas and the ignition flames are extinguished.
Some time later, at the desired time, the clockwork movement 79 acts through its hand 86 on the levers 90 and 92 which separate the branch 17, which again determines the triggering of the motor barrel 22 and consequently the lowering of the needle 72 which gives the gas access to the temporary burners via the pipe 73. A few hours later, it is again the clockwork movement which, through its second hand 87, acts by the same levers 90, 92 and 17 on the barrel: motor, the needle 72 can close and the temporary burners go out.
The next morning, it is the depression of the gas of the plant which gives rise to the lowering of the diaphragm 3 and consequently to the iron meture of the needle 5 which closes the gas inlet. to the permanent burner.
