Method and apparatus for the injection of wood. The invention relates to a method of injection of wood keys and to an apparatus for placing. key practice this process.
According to the process, the timber is first subjected to dewatering by injecting them with water, then they are impregnated with a solution containing an albuminoid material, after which they are cut into planclies. that you dry at a high temperature.
As the albuminoid material, casein which has been soaked in ammoniacal water and lime may preferably be employed to obtain a solution which can be injected into the wood.
In place of casein, other albuminoid materials can be used, for example a solution of pure albumin, of known g of clarified beef, solutions of vegetable or animal albumin. .
The injection can be carried out in any known manner, for example by suction, or by pressure, or by simultaneous suction and pressure.
It is thus possible to obtain waterproof and refractory wood keys to the action of heat, humidity to light, that> i do not deform and stick, very easily, especially if one uses for this operation with casein glues ..
The solution of the albuminoid material can be mixed with any color product in order to give the wood a desired color. By injecting the * liquid in irregular and bumpy fashion, darker or darker veins are formed.
In some cases, it may be advantageous to drive off the water which has been used for dewatering the log before injecting the albuni, inoid material. We. can for this purpose inject the log of a gas, for example ple key air cold or hot, By employing, air cl-i, a.ud, one small at the same time dry the log.
Likewise, it is possible to ensure the precipitation of the albuminoid matter and at the same time to drive out an excess of the dissolution of this matter by injecting into the log a suitable gas. - - The drawing , annexed represents, to. by way of example, some embodiments of the apparatus _pduring the implementation of the process.

The- fig. li represents another variant for the processing of logs' of large and -small diameter.
The apparatus shown in Figs. 1. at '7, corner carries a frame a on which is fixed a support b bearing -Lin axis c serving as articulation- -tion to the leg (1 of a cylinder e, ends 2 by -a. Flange el- protant of the ears e .
. The flange el is hollowed out. to form a circular chamber in which is housed the end of a cylindrical body f carrying yokes fl in which are articulated rotating bolts g interlocking pledge between the ears e 'of the flange el.
These bo'Liloiis -ü whose nuts come to press on the ears e ', secure the cylinder e with the -corps f and a gasket e: as to ensure the tightness of the assembly.
The cylindrical body f has an internally recessed flange. to receive an interchangeable li-ring, the inside diameter of which is proportional to the size of the log. This ring is equipped with A ' tips penetrating - into the log i. - One year ii water obt-Lirat # e-Lir-. -noil drawn (. it is interposed. between the ring h and the end of the log i ensures the seal- between -these two parts.
The log is wrapped by means of di s- positive with links. k -assembled and. hinged together by rods 1; each of these filaments carries two plates kl presenting a series of teeth of the tines to penetrate daiis '- the log.' so to prevent it from. turn.
The hoop is tightened on the log, by tensioners whose rods in 'nil are articulated in keys. yokes n - carried by the two end links k and key bolts o assemble the device. -dé, shrinking with- the flange f \ du, cylindrical body f # The bottom of the cylinder e carries two p 7- boreholes, on which are f two inlet pipes attached '-s 1, one of which, s,
is connected directly1 to a pump when only one element is fixed-on-the frame a and the other of which is -connected to a manifold u mounted on the frame a when J ' apparatus comprises several elements placed in series.
In the device shown fîg. 8 and 9 and applicable, particularly to logs of medium diameter, the internal recess of the flange f 'of the cylindrical body f serves as a housing to a crown h intended to for sea an extended joint between the log and the device.
A this effect, the crown h has a co. , circular blade h2 penetrating the log q * '- and a washer h \ ' of rubber or other suitable material, forma-nt joint. sure. The end of the log i.
The circular ' ie part of the. log i wedged between the edge of its end and the lower edge of the washer li 'constitutes the jacket necessary to resist and;
com think about the pressures produced by. the arrival of liquids or gases injected into the logs in order to drive out the excess of liquid to dry out the logs, or finally, to facilitate the precipitation of albumi- noids. This jacket also prevents the expulsion or leakage of # liquids or jazes through the periphery of the gru me, # the latter kant in the open air.
The device of shrinking the log on the apparatus according to FIGS. 8 and 9 comprises a ring i in the thickness of which the grout feels rods 2 carrying pads with claws .3, on which act clamping screws to engaged in a shoulder of the ring 1, these screws having the purpose of applying the pads 3 against there log by penetrating the claws into this log.
The ring 1 and the log, which it carries, are joined to the cylindrical body, f, by bolts 5 whose nuts 6 tighten on the f flange of the cylindrical body f.
Instead of the ring i, the small device comprises, for fixing large diameter logs, the device shown fi-. 10 eL comprising bolts 7 passing through the flange f2 and having hooks 8 in which are engaged the ends of threaded rods 9 # rel! ées1 on the other hand, to turnbuckles 10.
The ti.-es 9 are extended by other Il threaded rods, one end of which is engaged in 1 the tensioners 10, while their opposite ends-wear heels 12 with spikes. _ These heels are screwed on the-, He # until this that they come into contact with the rear end of the log i and the fixing of the assembly is obtained by turning the tensioners 10 so as to tension the rods 9 and It and to make the tips of the heels 12 penetrate the log.
In the variant shown to in fig. li, for the treatment of logs of large Io ngueur and small diameter, telegraph poles, for example, the crown h is extended by a sleeve Al in which the end of the log i is engaged and sealing is obtained by the CIO seal. Rubber li. " housed at the lower one (read inan- chon M.
For these logs, the key fixing device comprises, as in the previous case, bolts 7 which pass through the flange fl of the cylindrical body and, present, (the hooks < B> 8. IS rods are engaged in. Hooks 8 and, on the other hand, in ili hooks carried by an intermediate collar < B> 15 fixed to the 8-rume, i 5 or 8 meters from the flange f 'by tightening screws 16.
The collar M also carries, on the face opposite the hooks 14, other hooks 1'7 in which are hooked threaded rods M connected to- tensioners ig and extended by rods 20, also threaded and carrying heels 21 provided with points which penetrate into the end of the log i when the fixing is completed, as in the previous device, by rotating the tensioners M It will be understood from the foregoing that the various organs of the apparatus as well as the log which they maintain being connected in a sealed manner, it suffices, for le, desé vage, d 'send to using a pump,
water at the suitable temperature & in the tube s or in the collector u.
This water passing through the cubic capacity enters the grunie, from which it drives out the sap and the liquid products it contains; 'these products are collected, at the outlet, in a tank in view of their subsequent use.
When the water begins to come out pure, the operation is complete and the log is ready to receive the injection of the al # buminoid material.
This -second injection is made in the same . way, and with the same apparatus which has 0 lost it, using a solution of an albuminoid material.
When the injection is finished, the log is cut into boards, the waterproofing of which is further enhanced by subjecting them to desiccation in a hot room.
The devices which have just been described allow the impi # C # generation fluid to be injected directly into the heart of the log, from where this liquid is spread through the medular and concentric canals in all # 1 -, parts of the log to to be treated, unlike the devices used ac1.'uell # ment, auto claves, cast iron or eu liners, iron- etc., with which one cannot d-try,
- inject or dry only the sapwood crown which is only an insignificant part of the tree.
On the other hand, due to the dispositio-a of the devices, the treatment can be carried out either by the foot or by the head of the tree.
