Description

Gas compressor. The object of the present invention is a gas compressor in which a hollow cylinder is capable of being driven by a reciprocating movement with respect to a fixed member which plays the role of relative to said cylinder. 'a piston head.

The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention. Figs. 1 and 2 are two vertical necks; fig. 3 is a horizontal section along the line t1-B of FIG. 1.

The cylinder 1 can move in a cylindrical slide 2 forming with the cha skin of the frame 3 a closed space integral with the latter. It is connected, at its lower end, to a connecting rod 4 which can be set in motion by known means and cause the cylinder to move alternately from bottom to top and from top to bottom. Fig. 1 shows cylinder 1 at the bottom, fig. 2 at the top of his race. In the upper hollowed out part of cylinder 1, part which constitutes a compression chamber 9, is engaged the member 5 which plays the role of a piston head and which, for this purpose, has a diameter equal to that from bedroom 9.

This member 5 communicates by a tubular extension 6 with an adjustment 7 connected by a pipe not shown in the drawing to a reservoir intended to contain the compressed gas. To this same member 5 is fixed another member intended to control the communication between the chamber 9 and the tubular extension 6, and which consists of a part 8 provided with conduits 10, as well as a shutter valve. 11 subjected to the action of a spring 12 tending <to keep it applied against its seat, that is to say in a position where it closes the communication between the chamber 9 and the extension 6, therefore with the reservoir intended to receive compressed gas.

The frame 3 also has, on the one hand, an adjustment 13 by which the call for the gas to be compressed can be made, which can enter the chamber 9 thanks to grooves 14 formed in the walls of the cylinder 1, on the other on the other hand, a circular recess 15 partially filled with a liquid, for example glycerin, ensuring absolute sealing. For its part, the member 5 is provided on its periphery with members such as, for example, segments which prevent any passage of gas between it and the cylinder 1. The operation of the device is as follows: When the cylinder 1 has the position which it occupies in fig. 1, the gas to be compressed fills the chamber 9.

As the connecting rod 4 pushes the cylinder 1 upwards, the gas in the chamber is compressed until the pressure that the gas eierce on the valve 11 is strong enough to counteract the action of the spring. 12 and lift this valve which then lets the compressed gas pass and reach the reservoir which must contain it. The cylinder 1 is then in its upper position, indicated in fig. 2.

As soon as the connecting rod 4 descends, there is an increase in the volume of the space occupied by the compressed gas, therefore a decrease in the pressure of the latter and immediate lowering of the valve 11 on the same seat. The chamber 9 is therefore filled with gas by suction through the grooves 14 and the compression begins again as soon as the connecting rod rises, and so on.
