Threaded member with device to prevent its inadvertent rotation. The invention relates to a threaded member, for example a bolt, a nut, etc. characterized in that it is made unbreakable by driving a specially shaped key between the head of the bolt or the nut and the part to be tightened, this key being housed in a notch made in the head of the bolt or in the nut and comprising a part which becomes embedded in the part to be tightened.
One embodiment of the object of the invention is shown by way of example by the appended drawing in which: FIG. 1 is an overview; Fig. 2 shows, seen from the front, the nut with its key fitted but not yet inserted. Fig. 3 is a view identical to the previous one, the key being depressed and fixed. Fig. 4 shows, by way of example, the nut isolated and seen from the front.
Fig. 5 is a side view. Fig. 6 represents the key.
Figs. 7 and 8 respectively show in longitudinal and end view, a variant of the key; According to the invention, one or more in narrow sizes such as a are made on the inner face of the head b of the bolt and on the face of the nut which is to come into contact with the workpiece g. Preferably, these notches are made parallel to one or more sides of the bolt head or the nut, but they could be made in another direction; they have a shape corresponding to a, the section of the thin key which must be introduced therein and their bottom is slightly inclined in accordance with the shape given to the key for the purpose of good wedging.
The key d has the usual general shape of such a member and includes a heel e for easy removal 8011 when necessary. In addition, on the side opposite to this heel, it is cut in the form of a protruding part f.
When the nut is tightened on the bolt, we introduce into the notch or in the sizes a of the head of the bolt and of the nut a key d such as that which has just been described, placing the protruding part f of this key against the part to be tightened g. With a blow of a hammer, said key is then inserted, the projecting part of which f becomes embedded in the mass of the part to be clamped, y and consequently makes any loosening impossible.
The upper part of fig. 1 and lib. 2 show the key d simply inserted into the notch of the nut without being forced into it.
The lower part of fig. 1 shows the key d driven in with a hammer blow, its protruding part f thus being embedded in the mass of the part y.
Fig. 3 also shows the key d forced into its notch. In accordance with the indications in this figure, the end of said key can be folded down at h, against the nut or the head of the bolt to prevent any possible accidental removal.
It will be understood that the key thus taken on the one hand in the nut or the head of the bolt and encrusted on the other hand in the mass of the piece, this to be tightened makes any rotation of said nut or bolt impossible and consequently everything loosening.
To remove the bolt, just straighten it. key if it has been folded back and extract it from the notch by acting as usual, on the internal face of its heel e.
A notch in the nut and a notch in the head of the bolt are sufficient to secure the fastening and prevent loosening In accordance with what has just been specified. However, to make the device accessible from several sides, it is advantageously possible to make more than one notch in each nut or head of the bolt.
The present description refers more particularly to the case of tightening by a bulb and a nut. But it is understood that both can be used separately. In particular, the invention can be applied to a nut mounted on a single stud or threaded rod screwed into one of the parts to be tightened; it can also be applied to the head of a screw.
The arrangement of the part of the key which has to be embedded in the part to be tightened may vary provided the same result is obtained, that is to say that under the action of a hammer blow, any part of the side of the key in contact with the part to be clamped becomes embedded in it. For example, this side of the key could be cut in a chamfered bevel shown in Figs. Î and 8.
