Spark plug for internal combustion engines and method for its manufacture. The invention relates to a spark plug for combustion engines and to a method of manufacturing this spark plug.
The spark plug has, like other known spark plugs for explosion engines, a central electrode mounted in a solid body. in insulating material and secured in a base constituting the other electrode. But it differs from it in that the body of insulating material has a truncated cone, the small base of which is on the side. parts of the electrodes, between which the sparks fly, and which is placed in a soft metal sheath housed in the base.
According to the process, a frustoconical bearing surface corresponding exactly to is rotated in a hollow body of soft metal placed in the base. the frustoconical part of the insulating body, this part is placed within the scope without exerting strong pressure on it, and finally the insulating body is secured in the base by crimping.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the spark plug. Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section thereof; Figs. 2 and 3 relate to the manufacture of this embodiment.
The base a, made for example of steel or brass, consists of two cylinders al n 'of different diameters and a part with hexagon as; the cylinder a1 has a thread making it possible to screw it into an opening of the corresponding cylinder of the engine.
Inside the cylinder a1 and chi at the bottom of the cylinder a = is formed a cylindrical cavity al, in the rest of this cylinder a = and inside the part a3 a cylindrical-conical cavity .a'-a '. In the two cavities which follow one another, the body b made of insulating material, for example soapstone, and comprising two cylinders b1 bl of slightly different diameters, is arranged.
united by a double rough truncated cone b3-b4; the upper truncated cone is very short, while the other, much longer, constitutes the one mentioned in the introduction and rests in the sheath c made of hard metal, aluminum for example, and housed in the cavity a'-a. This b body is held in place in the base, a thanks to a ring d
