Acetylene generator. The present invention relates to an acetylene generator. The appended drawing gives, by way of example, one embodiment.
Fig. 1 is. a, plan view: FIG. 2 is a view in vertical section, taken along the line À-B of FIG. 1 .; Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view, taken along the line C-T) key la fi. ?; of the container. intended for. contain the key calcium carbide, this container. being supposed to be free of calcium carbonate and represented on a larger scale.
The acetylene generator shown com carries a container. carbide a which has a rectangular plan in plan and whose bottom is constltuP by four inclined faces q between the lower edges of which is formed an orifice r. Above these four faces, the wall of the reservoir takes the form of a dome s pierced with a hole t allowing the introduction of the carbide.
This hole can be closed by means of a 2s plug; the container a forms a body and communicates through the orifice r. through which the carbide can pass, with a chamber e placed below it, which is connected by a conduit v to a reservoir c containing water d. The orifice r is located in the extension of the conduit v, so that a movable shutter f capable of moving vertically clans the chamber, may, depending on whether it is applied against the opening i or against the upper end of the duct v, prevent the passage of the carbide of the container a clans the chamber c or this last in said duct,
by so much in the reservoir c. The opening f is formed (fig. 3) by a core i in which are implanted metal wires forming a circular brush j. Above a cylindrical part w of the tank c is arranged a bell g in which the acetylene gas is collected and from which it can be distributed in a known manner by means of a tube h and a tap x. The lower edge of the bell g is immersed in a liquid contained in an ad hoc housing y of the reservoir, so as to form a seal. hydraulic.
The uprising. of the shutter f, leaving the carbide falling into the water d, is obtained automatically when the bell g is lowered, by means of a lever fi, pivoting in 1 and acting by its end> the on crumb rod n connected to the shutter f, and which is. actuated at its o end; by the bell bearing for this purpose. a rod p. intended to come to support sir the end o of the lever h when the bell 9 is lowered.
When the rod p no longer rests on the lever o, the weight of the carbide acting on the shutter lowers the latter until it closes the upper end of the pipe v and consequently prevents the because bure to fall into the water d.
The arrival of the carbide in the reservoir c therefore takes place automatically at the appropriate time to ensure the production of the gas as it is consumed.
Finally. the shutter f allows. emptying the chamber c when it closes the orifice î.
