- des trous sont pratiques aux deux extrémités d'une fente, ces trous ayant une section sensiblement circulaire;
- au moins une fente, formée au moulage de la tétine, s'ouvre vers l'intérieur de ladite tétine, les parois longitudinales en regard délimitant ladite fente du côté intérieur de la tétine formant entre elles un angle non nul;
- la figure 1 représente, en coupe axiale, une té-tine conforme à un premier mode de réalisation de la présente invention, ladite coupe passant par l'axe longitudinal de la fente d'alimentation que comporte la tétine;
- la figure 2 est une vue de dessus selon II-II de la figure 1;
- la figure 3 représente, à plus grande échelle, en coupe axiale, l'extrémité de la tétine de la figure 1, où est ménagée la fente d'alimentation;
- la figure 4 est une vue de dessus selon IV-IV de la figure 3;
- la figure 5 est une vue, en coupe axiale, du mamelon d'une tétine conforme à un second mode de réalisation de l'invention, ladite coupe passant par le plan perpendiculaire au plan passant par l'axe longitudinal de la fente d'alimentation que comporte la tétine et par l'axe de la tétine;
The present invention relates to a teat with variable and adjustable flow rate, intended to adapt to a bottle for feeding infants.
Such teats include, as a passage for the food contained in the bottle, for example, milk or porridge, a narrow slit whose position is adjusted relative to the lips of the infant, using markers, generally by number three (I; II and III), which are spared, either on the nipple itself, or on its clamp, or even on the bottle. The adjustment of the position of the slot ensures a variation in the flow rate of the teat by a more or less large opening of the slot with each suction movement of the lips of the child.
In the first teats of this type which have been produced, the slot was generally formed on the rounded protuberance formed by the nipple of the teat, in other words, it was practical on the convex end wall which is substantially spherical at the end of the teat.
To ensure that the feed rate is, at least in the minimum flow position, substantially constant, or little variable depending on the amount of suction, it has been proposed, according to French patent n <o> 2,417,978 to provide the feed slot on a concave curved surface disposed at the end of the teat, or on a substantially flat surface. In the case where this surface is curved, the slot is arranged in the bottom of the cavity.
It has also been proposed, according to French patent n <o> 2,052,206, that at least one of the ends of the slot opens into a hole drilled through the wall of the teat, which allows the slot to keep a constant length during the use of the pacifier. In addition, when the child's sucking movements are no longer exerted on the nipple, if the lips of the slit close, and if a depression exists inside the nipple, air can enter the bottle through the end holes of each slot.
Finally, it has been proposed, according to French patent n <o> 86-18 345, that the slot opens towards the inside of the teat, the longitudinal facing walls delimiting said slot on the inside of the teat forming between them a non-zero angle. Under these conditions, one obtains, when using the intermediate benchmark II, a flow rate which has a value truly intermediate between the two extreme values obtained during the use of the benchmarks I and II respectively.
However, it has been found, in use, that all these teats with variable and adjustable flow rate, tend to tear, especially at the ends of the slots, after a certain time of use.
The Depositing Company has now discovered that the lifespan of these teats could be improved, by being, surprisingly, multiplied by a factor as important as factor 4, if the end of the teat had, around the slot , and at a certain distance therefrom, an additional thickness, which can only be formed in the regions close to the ends of the slot.
The present invention therefore relates to the new industrial product which constitutes a teat with variable and adjustable flow rate, intended in particular to fit on a feeding bottle for infants, said teat being made of a rubbery or elastomeric material and having, the end of the nipple which undergoes the sucking movements of the infant, at least one slit, intended to let pass the food distributed by the teat, characterized in that, in the region surrounding the slit, the nipple has an extra thickness of its wall.
The extra thickness of the nipple wall is in particular in the form of at least one bead molded and formed on the outside and / or inside of the nipple. In particular, the bead is formed on the outside of the nipple.
According to a first embodiment, the teat, comprising a single slot arranged in a radial plane thereof, or else several slots whose mean line is parallel to this radial plane, the bead is discontinuous, being limited to two sections occupying two opposite zones having the mean line of the slit (s) as the plane of symmetry.
According to a second embodiment, the bead is a continuous bead.
In a particular embodiment, the teat has a single bead, continuous or discontinuous.
Provision may be made for the slot to be made on a concave curved surface of the end of the nipple, the slot being arranged in the bottom of the concavity; in this case, the bead, continuous or discontinuous, is arranged in the region of said concave curved surface. Advantageously, this concave curved surface is a spherical cap whose axis coincides with that of the teat, a bead, continuous or discontinuous, being formed on a circle whose center is located on this axis.
Provision may also be made for the slot to be made on a substantially flat surface of the end of the nipple; in this case, the continuous or discontinuous bead is disposed in the region of said substantially planar surface.
According to the invention, the single bead, or the bead closest to the slot in the case of a plurality of slots, is located at a distance between 0 and 3 mm and preferably between 0.3 and 0.5 mm from the neighboring slot, this distance being counted from the internal edge of the bead.
In accordance with other characteristics of the present invention:
- Holes are practical at both ends of a slot, these holes having a substantially circular section;
- At least one slot, formed by molding the teat, opens towards the inside of said teat, the longitudinal facing walls delimiting said slot on the inside of the teat forming between them a non-zero angle;
- the nipple is provided with 3 marks (I; II; III), oriented relative to the slot; and
- The bead has a rounded external surface, in cross section, at least in the vicinity of the slot; a width, measured at the base, of between 0.1 and 2 mm and preferably 0.5 mm; and a maximum height of between 0.1 and 2 mm and preferably 0.5 mm.
To better understand the object of the present invention, we will describe below, by way of purely illustrative and non-limiting examples, two embodiments shown in the accompanying drawing.
On this drawing:
- Figure 1 shows, in axial section, a teat according to a first embodiment of the present invention, said section passing through the longitudinal axis of the feed slot that includes the teat;
- Figure 2 is a top view along II-II of Figure 1;
- Figure 3 shows, on a larger scale, in axial section, the end of the nipple of Figure 1, where the feed slot is formed;
- Figure 4 is a top view along IV-IV of Figure 3;
- Figure 5 is a view, in axial section, of the nipple of a pacifier according to a second embodiment of the invention, said section passing through the plane perpendicular to the plane passing through the longitudinal axis of the slot feeding that includes the teat and by the axis of the teat;
and
- Figure 6 is, on a larger scale, an axial sectional view of the end of the nipple of the nipple of Figure 5, said section passing through the longitudinal axis of said slot.
If we refer to Figures 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawing, we see that we have designated by 1, as a whole, the teat according to the invention, directly obtained by molding, in particular of a silicone rubber having a Shore A hardness of 30 to 70, for example, that marketed under the name "SILOPREN LSR 2035" by the company "BAYER".
The teat 1 is a classic teat, consisting of a warhead 2, surmounted by a nipple 3. The nipple 3 is subjected to the sucking movements of the child and has a substantially cylindrical part 4 connected to the upper part of the ogive 2 and an end portion 5 in the form of a substantially spherical dome or cap, of concavity turned towards the outside of the teat 1 and of axis substantially coincident with that of the teat 1. In this embodiment, the radius of the spherical cap is of the order of 1 to 7 mm and preferably of 4 mm, and the diameter of its circular rim 6 is of the order of 2 to 10 mm and preferably of 6 mm. If we cut the spherical cap by a plane passing through its axis, the arc of circle of intersection corresponds to an angle in the center of approximately 90 DEG.
Also, the length of the cord 6a which underlies the arc of intersection of the concave curved surface with an axial plane (see FIG. 2) is at least twice the distance 6b measured between the middle of the cord 6a and the middle of the aforementioned intersection arc.
Inside the concavity of the dome 5, a rectilinear slot 7 is provided which extends in an axial plane of the nipple 1. At each end of the slot 7, a circular hole 8a, 8b is provided, the diameter is about 0.5mm. The centers of the two end holes 8a, 8b are approximately 3 mm apart.
On a circle of approximately 2.1 mm in radius, concentric with the circular rim 6, the wall of the dome 5 has externally, opposite each hole 8a, 8b, a bead respectively 9a, 9b. Each bead extends over an arc of a circle of 60 DEG, centered on the longitudinal line of the slot 7; it has a height of the order of 0.5 mm and a width of around 0.5 mm also, the thickness of the teat 1 in the region of the dome 5 being of the order of 0.6 to 2 mm and preferably 1.2 mm. Furthermore, the bead sections 9a, 9b are of rounded shape at each of their ends (Figure 4) and their profile is also rounded, substantially in a semicircle (Figure 3).
At the opposite end of the nipple 3, the nipple 1 is folded outwards to form a sole 10, which is intended to come to bear on the upper rim of the neck of the bottle, the upper wall of said sole 10 then being applied against the internal annular flange of a ring connecting the bottle to the teat, a ring whose body is intended to be screwed onto the threaded neck of the bottle.
The bottom wall of the sole 10 is provided with three groups arranged at 120 DEG from each other, with three radial ribs 11, coming from molding, whose role is both to prevent, in use, the sliding of the sole 10 on the upper rim of the bottle, and ensuring an air entry into the bottle when the latter is under pressure. On the outer wall of the body 2 in a warhead, is formed, just above the sole 10, a peripheral groove 12 intended to receive the lower edge of the collar of the aforementioned connection ring.
Furthermore, on the lower edge of the nipple nose cone 1, there are placed three marks I, II, III; the reference I is in the axial plane perpendicular to the slot 7: the reference II is in an axial plane of the nipple 1 which makes an angle of 45 DEG with the plane which contains the reference I; the reference III is located in the axial plane of the nipple 1 which contains the longitudinal axis of the slot 7. The reference marks I, II and III respectively are constituted by one, two and three radial ribs coming from molding with the nipple 1 .
As is known, when we have the reference I under the nose of the child who will use the pacifier 1, the suction movement is carried out without there being a large opening of the two lips of the slot 7 , that is to say that the minimum flow rate of the teat 1 is obtained; when, on the contrary, the reference mark III is placed under the child's nose by rotation of the bottle around its axis, the maximum flow rate is obtained due to the spacing of the two lips of the slot 7; if reference mark II is used, the feeding rate of the child is intermediate between the rates obtained in the two preceding cases.
It has been observed that the teat 1 which has just been described has a lifespan of the order of 4 times that of a teat identical except that it does not include the bead sections 9a, 9b, and the dome 5 of which tended to tear quickly from the ends of the slot 7.
If we now refer to Figures 5 and 6, we see that there is shown a nipple 101 made according to a variant. The teat 101 is essentially distinguished from the teat 1 by the shape of the end of the nipple and by that of the slot and the bead which are formed in this end.
Thus, the nipple 103 has a flattened end portion 105, in which a rectilinear slot 107 is provided which lies in a radial plane of the nipple 101. As can be seen, the slot 107 is delimited by two longitudinal walls opposite 113 (Figure 4) and by two opposite transverse walls 114 (Figure 5). The two longitudinal walls 113 are arranged obliquely, and they deviate towards the inside of the nipple 101. As for the transverse walls 114, these are plane walls perpendicular to the longitudinal plane of symmetry of the slot 107. The slot 107 is advantageously formed directly by molding the nipple 101.
The end wall 105 externally comprises a bead 109, also from molding, which continuously surrounds the slot 107 and which is arranged at a distance of the order of 0 to 3 mm and preferably from 0.3 to 0 , 5 mm from the upper edge of the slot 107, this distance being counted between the said edge and the internal base of said bead 109. The latter has a width of the order of 0.1 to 2 mm and preferably of 0.5 mm. It is delimited by a rounded internal wall 109a, the profile of which is in the form of a quarter-circle of cocavity oriented towards the outside and by an external wall 109b, straight, substantially perpendicular to the end wall 105. The height of the wall 109b is of the order of 0.1 to 2 mm and preferably of 0.5 mm and the width of the bead 109, measured along the base thereof, is of the order of 0.1 to 2 mm and preferably 0.5 mm.
The presence of the bead 109 avoids tearing of the end wall 105 and ensures a much longer life of the teat 101.
It is understood that the embodiments described above are in no way limiting and may give rise to any desirable modifications, without departing from the scope of the invention.
