BESCHREIBUNG

Fig. 2).
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a device for opening printed products provided with a fold according to the preamble of claim 1. The invention also relates to a device for collating printed products provided with a fold with at least two such devices.
From CH-PS 358 444 a device for opening printed products provided with a fold is known.
In this device, the printed products rest with their fold on a conveyor belt provided with drivers.
The drivers push two guides through. A cam disk is arranged below half of the conveyor belt, which briefly lifts the conveyor belt upon arrival of a printed product and thus compresses its fold. Due to the compression of the fold, the two halves of the printed product separated by the fold bulge apart to form an opening near the fold, while the printed product passes between two rollers which prevent it from being lifted by the action of the cam disk. At this point there is also the tip of a fixed opening wedge that diverges in the conveying direction. The tip of this wedge penetrates into the opening created by the compression of the fold, while the printed product is pushed forward by the drivers.
The lateral guides also diverge in the area of the wedge, so that the printed product, after passing through the opening wedge, continues to run in a V-shape and is open at the top.
In addition to the fact that the previously known device is at best suitable for inserting an insert into the opened printed products from above, its ability to reliably open the printed products depends on many parameters, for example the thickness and format of the printed products and their conveying speed .
Other opening mechanisms are also known, but they are only able to open printed products with a so-called pre-fold. Pre-folding is understood to mean such a fold in which the product to be opened and opened has not been folded in the middle, so that the edge of the one half of the printed product originating from the fold protrudes beyond the edge of the other half. However, these more powerful opening mechanisms have the disadvantage mentioned that they can only be loaded with pre-folded printed products, and as a subsequent disadvantageous consequence that the printed products have to be cut to size at the end of their processing, which results in undesired paper waste.
It is therefore to be regarded as a purpose of the invention to provide a device of the type mentioned at the outset which is capable of reliably opening various types of printed products. In addition, the proposed device should be able to process printed products with or without pre-fold.
These purposes are achieved in the proposed device in that it has the features specified in the characterizing part of patent claim 1.
The fact that the printed products are held against rotation during the upsetting process at a point distant from the end of the fold increases the opening provoked by the upsetting, since this is not limited by two hold-down rollers.
A particularly preferred embodiment because of its performance is defined in claim 5.
As a result of the fact that the printed products are conveyed in a direction transverse to their fold in this embodiment, it is possible to convey the printed products in a much denser sequence than when the CH-PS 358 444 was set up. The fact that each of the grippers has an associated, controlled pusher means that the fold is compressed, so to speak, in an accompanying manner during the passage of the opening path. The moving opening strips also intervene in the printed products while accompanying them in the above-mentioned route.
As mentioned, the invention also relates to a device for collating printed products provided with a fold, which device is equipped with at least two of the devices mentioned, which in turn form part of this device. This collating device is defined in claim 10.
Preferred embodiments of the device are defined in dependent claims 2 to 18 and those of the device in dependent claims 20 to 26.
The invention is described below purely for example with reference to the drawing. It shows:
Fig. 1 is a schematic side view of a first imple mentation form.
Fig. 2 is a very schematic plan view in the direction of
Arrow II on the device of FIG. 1, omitting the rail of the conveyor,
Fig. 3 is a schematic, perspective view for
Representation of the design of the conveyor grippers,
Fig. 4 is a schematic side view of a second embodiment.
5 shows a schematic perspective of a device for collating printed products, which device is equipped with three devices for opening, and
6 shows a simplified illustration of the end face of the device according to FIG. 5.
In the embodiment of the device 10 shown in FIGS. 1-3, a conveyor 11 can be seen which, with regular distances from one another, is controlled by a controlled gripper 15 fastened to a chain 14 which is guided in a guide rail 12 and is endless and driven in the direction of the arrow 13 is provided. The grippers 15 are intended for this. to hold folded printed products 16 at their fold 16 '. 3 shows that each gripper 15 is wide. has fixed jaw 17, as well as two movable jaws 18, which are separated by scenes not shown and can be controlled individually. 19. The grippers 15 thus hold the printed products 16 at their fold 16 'at two adjacent locations.
In the opening section indicated by the dashed arrow S in FIG. 1, a push button 20 is assigned to each of the grippers 15. These pushers 20 are spaced from one another. which correspond to those between successive grippers 15, articulated on an endless chain 24 rotating around two sprockets 21.22 in the direction of arrow 23. The end of the pushers protruding from the chain 24 is bent in a V-shape and thus has a recess 35. which serves to receive or overlap the fold 16 'of a printed product 16 in each case.
The run of the chain 24 running from top left to bottom right in FIG. 1 runs parallel to the grippers 15 and the depressions 25 each encompass the end of the fold 16 'closer to the viewer of a printed product (see also FIG. 2). The end of each pusher 20 opposite the end provided with the recess 25 runs on a link 26 as it passes through said run. which causes the pusher in question to receive a short leading movement component in addition to its movement accompanying the grippers 15. The pusher 20 located in the said strand of the chain are additionally designated A, B, C, D and E in FIGS. 1 and 2 from top to bottom.
It can be seen from FIG. 1 that the pusher 20 A., which has not yet run onto the backdrop 26, only overlaps the fold of the corresponding printed product. However, as soon as this pusher will run onto the backdrop 26 - which is shown for the pusher 20 B - it will compress the corresponding fold due to the additional movement component, so that the two halves of the printed product emanating from the fold bulge away from each other or apart, at the same time the line of the fold experiences a kink (see FIG. 2).
It can be seen in particular from FIG. 2 that an opening bar 27 is assigned to each of the pushers 20. The opening strips 27 are articulated at the points denoted by 28 on two ci endless chains 29, 30 which are guided over the same sprockets 31, 32 and 33, 34, so that the chains have the same, but laterally offset courses. The chains 29, 30 are driven circumferentially by means not shown in the direction of arrow 35. Because of the offset arrangement of the chains 29, 30, the opening strips 27 remain parallel to themselves during their entire orbital movement. The rotational speed of the opening strips 27 and their distance from one another on the chains exceed the rotational speed or the mutual distance of the pushers 20 from one another.
The difference between the circulation speeds and the mutual distances is now selected so that an opening strip 27 always engages with its projecting, free end between the two halves of a printed product originating from the fold 16 'when this opening strip 27 is delivered via the chain wheels 31, 33.
In order to make this clear, the opening strips 27 are additionally designated with a, b, c, d and e, with the assignment to the push buttons 20 additionally designated with corresponding capital letters. Due to their greater rotational speed, the opening strips also have one away from the pushers 20, i.e. a leading movement component, whereby they also move away from the fold of the relevant printed product 16 and completely separate the two halves of the printed products from one another at least on one side edge, as is shown in FIG. 1 for the hatched printed product which is under the action of the pusher 20 E and the opening bar 27 e stands.
In Fig. 1 the leading, i.e. the fold against opposite edges of the printed products 16 is supported by a guide plate 36 running essentially parallel to the conveyor 11 in the opening section S. This guide plate 36 acts like a slide and prevents the leading edge of the printed products and later the half of the printed products not influenced by the opening strips 27 from hanging down in an uncontrolled manner.
FIG. 1 also shows that the guide rail 12 and the guide plate 36 diverge from one another in a circular arc in the region of the end of the opening section. In addition, in the end region of the guide plate 36 which is bent away in a circular arc from the guide rail, there is a set of controlled clamps 39 fastened at regular intervals corresponding to the spacing of the grippers 15 on a chain 38 rotating in the direction of arrow 37 at the same speed as the grippers 15 3, which, as shown in FIG. 3, extend upward from the underside of the guide plate 36 through a slot 40 therein.
The brackets 39 serve to grasp the leading edge of the halves of the printed products 16 that are not lifted from the guide plate 36 by the opening strips 27 and to bend the arcuate end section of the guide plate 36 and thus to ensure the opening of the printed products, even if the opening strip 27 rotates around the chain wheels 32, 34 has been extended again from the printed product 16.
Finally, it can be seen from FIG. 1 that the gate 26 controlling the pushers 20 has an additional end portion. has increasing ramp 26 '. If a push button 20 now runs onto this ramp 26 ', this push button is again given an additional, short leading movement component. At the level of this ramp 26 ', the movable jaws 18 of the grippers 15, i.e. the jaws closer to the press core 20, controlled by a separate setting (not shown) in the open position, so that the printed product 16 is inclined under the effect of this additional, short, leading movement of the corresponding presser 20, since only the gripper 15 in question the movable jaw 19 which is further away from the handle 20 is in the closed position. This is clearly shown in Fig. 3 for the printed product 16 appearing below.
This inclined position of the printed product 16 has the effect that the edge of the printed product 16 opposite the fold 16 'of the half of the printed product 16 which is not influenced by the corresponding opening strip 27 e (FIG. 3) is pushed into one of the clamps 39 and then, as shown in FIG. 1 below, is bent around the arcuate end portion of the guide plate 26.
Now the printed product is reliably opened at least at one side edge and because of the inclination, this opened edge is slightly ahead of the other edge. The movable jaw 19 of the gripper 15 in question, which is still in the closed position, is now also opened by the link assigned to these jaws.
As a result, the printed product which is open at one side edge falls with this side edge ahead onto a collecting bar 41 which has a wedge-shaped cross section which tapers upwards. As a result, the collecting bar 41 will complete the opening of the printed product 16, which in turn comes astride the collecting bar 41 and its fold 16 'on the apex of the collecting bar 41.
The collecting bar 41 is one of many such collecting bars and as such these are components of the device to be described with reference to FIGS. 5 and 6.
A somewhat simpler embodiment of the opening device is shown in a schematic side view in FIG. 4. One recognizes the conveyor 11, with the chain 14 guided in the guide rail 12 and the grippers 15 fastened thereon, which pass through a horizontal path in the opening distance shown. The grippers 15 are attached to the chain 14 in such a way that their gripper mouth defined between the jaws 17 and 18, 19 is directed essentially at right angles to the chain 14 and downwards. The printed products 16 are thus conveyed freely suspended in the direction of the arrow 13, whereby they are gripped by the grippers 15 at their fold. The pushers 20 articulated on the chain 24 can also be seen, the chain 24 rotating around the chain wheels 21, 22 in the direction of the arrow 23.
In the area of the chain 24 that accompanies the grippers 15, the link 26 that interacts with the pushers 20 can also be seen, the end area of which is provided with the additional ramp 26 ′.
A difference to the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1-3 is the course of the (here round) opening strips parallel to self-moving chains 29, 30 (in FIG.
4 only indicated schematically). This course is not, as previously, parallel to the running direction of the grippers 15 and the pushers 20. Rather, it diverges from this course.
While at the beginning of the active run of the chains 29, 30 the opening strips 27 penetrate into the opening of the printed products caused by the compression of the fold (shown in FIG. 4 for the fold compressed by the pusher 20 C), the opening strips 27 do accompany as before, the run of the grippers 15 and the pushers 20, but at the same time move away from them, so that the printed products - as can clearly be seen in FIG. 4 - are completely opened at one side edge. When the opening strips 27 have reached their position furthest away from the pushers 20 (shown for the opening strip 27f), the push-button 20 F accompanying this printed product moves onto the ramp 26 'and at the same time, as shown, the movable jaw 18 of the relevant gripper in Bring open position so that the pressure product 16 hangs in an inclined position on the conveyor 11.
The open side edge extends further downwards and is ready to span the incoming collecting bar 41. Now the other, movable jaw 19 of the gripper in question is brought into the open position, so that in free fall the printed product straddles its associated collecting bar 41.
It has already been mentioned that the collecting bar 41, like several of the devices 10, belongs to a device for collating printed products provided with a fold.
An embodiment of such a device is shown very schematically in FIGS. 5 and 6 and is designated by the reference number 50.
This has a shaft 52 rotatably mounted in two bearing blocks 51. A sprocket 53 sits on this shaft and is coupled via a chain 54 to a geared motor 55 which drives the shaft 52 in the direction of arrow 56. Between the bearing blocks 51 and in the vicinity thereof, two disks 57, 58 are rotatably mounted on the shaft 42. In both disks 57, 58, the ends of a number of collecting bars 41 are rotatably mounted on a concentric circle at uniform circumferential intervals. In Fig. 5 there are eight of them for simplicity, while in Fig. 6 there are eighteen.
These collecting bars 41, already mentioned with reference to FIGS. 1 and 4, therefore run around the shaft 52. As mentioned, the collecting bars 41 have an essentially wedge-shaped cross section with the tip pointing upwards.
The collecting bars 41 are also coupled to guide means which ensure that they always point upwards during their orbital movement with the tip of their cross section. A simple embodiment of these guide means is shown schematically in FIG. 6. At one end of each of the collecting bars 41, a sprocket 59 is rotatably mounted with it. Another sprocket 59 'of the same size is non-rotatably mounted on one of the collecting bars. This sprocket 59 'is wrapped by a chain 60, which likewise wraps around a sprocket 61 which is fixed in place, ie not rotating, for example on the bearing block 51 and is mounted coaxially to the shaft 52. The remaining chain wheels 59 are all in engagement with a chain 62 enveloping them. This ensures that the collecting bars 41 always point upwards during their orbital movement.
It can be seen from FIG. 5 that the device is provided with three devices 10 according to FIGS. 1-3 or according to FIG. These devices ensure that an open printed product 16 falls astride the collecting bar 41 that is just passing, as described.
In each of the collecting bars 41 itself a conveyor device 63 is provided, the drive of which is derived, for example, from the relative rotation between the collecting bar 41 and the disks 57 and / or 58. The drivers 63 of each collecting bar 41 are arranged at a lateral distance from one another and move in the direction of the arrow 64. The speed of movement of the drivers 63 along the collecting bars 41 is selected by means of appropriate gearboxes (not shown) such that each driver 63 is in the train of a revolution around the shaft 52 along the relevant collecting beam 41 covers a distance, the length of which corresponds to the distance between two adjacent drivers 63 of the same collecting beam 41 and thus to the distance between adjacent devices.
The drivers 63 thus push the printed products 16 astride the collecting bar 41 in front of them. The drivers 63 and with them the advanced printed products 16 thus describe a helical path in the device 50.
If the devices 10 shown in FIG. 5 now each deliver the same-format print products but different contents. five printed products of different contents appear aligned after passing by at the end of the device 10 appearing on the right in FIG. 5 and placed one inside the other at the end of the corresponding collecting bar and can there, for example, be fed to a stapler (not shown) or taken over by a only schematically indicated conveyor 65 and for further processing.
It is not absolutely necessary for all devices 10 to be arranged next to one another and to end at the same height. It is only essential that the feed speed of the drivers 63 is matched in this way to the devices 10 opening out onto the collecting beams 41 passing by. that the driver 63 pushing a first printed product arrives at the end of the subsequent device 10 when it deposits the printed product it is promoting and opens on the relevant collecting bar 41.
The number of devices arranged along the circumferential collecting bars 41 is in itself arbitrary, so that with the device 50 double sheets for an entire brochure to be stapled, for a so-called tabloid, can be gathered together and at a speed comparable to that, with which the double sheets are obtained from a corresponding printing press. However, the time available for opening and merging the printed sheets is comparatively long, so that there is practically no risk of the printed sheets being crumpled or even torn.
