that said piece extends on either side of said articulation and it is provided with a stud perpendicular to said flat piece intended to pass through one of the holes in the strand of a conventional bracelet, and that the locking in position closed of the clasp is obtained by the collaboration of a stud provided with elastic means provided on the surface of one of the branches with a hole provided on the other branch of the clasp.
2. Clasp according to claim 1, characterized in that the elastic means of the nipple consist of a clip housed in a groove of the nipple so that it protrudes relative to the lateral surface of the nipple, and that the hole is formed two opposite countersinks so as to create a narrowing intended to collaborate with the clip surrounding the stud for locking the clasp in the closed position.
3. Clasp according to one of claims 1 or 2, characterized in that the flat piece is a metal ring.
4. Clasp according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the flat piece is a symbol or the representation of a trademark.
The present invention relates to a clasp for a bracelet, in particular for a watch bracelet, comprising two branches articulated to one another by one of their ends, the other end of one of the branches being provided with a transverse bar for fixing 'one of the free ends of the strands of the bracelet, while the other end of the second branch is provided with means for fixing the other free end of the strands of the bracelet, the two branches coming to be fixed to the notch one on the other in the closed position.
There are clasps, the branches of which are telescopic, thus making it possible to adjust the length of the bracelet, the strands of the bracelet being fixed to the free ends of the branches after having been cut to length, such a clasp is described in Swiss Patent No. 511,327. These clasps have two drawbacks: the attachment of the clasp to the bracelet is a delicate operation and they are relatively high cost.
The object of the present invention is to allow the strand of a bracelet provided with holes to be clipped in a simple, adjustable and removable manner and also to ensure effective locking of the clasp in the closed position.
The clasp according to the invention is characterized in that the means for fixing the other free end of the strands of the bracelet comprise a loop formed by a flat piece provided with two perpendicular projections by which the end of the second branch is articulated around a transverse axis, that said piece extends on either side of said articulation and it is provided with a stud perpendicular to said flat piece intended to pass through one of the holes in the strand of a conventional bracelet , and that the locking in the closed position of the clasp is obtained by the collaboration of a stud provided with elastic means provided on the surface of one of the branches with a hole provided on the other branch of the bracelet.
Attaching and adjusting at length the length of a bracelet provided with a clasp according to the invention is simple. The end of the strand usually provided with the buckle and a pin is fixed by a quite conventional bar to the free end of one of the branches, while the end of the other strand provided with holes is inserted in the loop formed by the flat piece articulated at the free end of the other branch. When the length adjustment is done, simply introduce the stud of the flat part into one of the holes in the strand. The flat piece extending on either side of the hinge, when the clasp is in the closed position, the strand cannot come off, because to do this it is necessary to tilt the flat piece on the opposite side to that carrying the stud which crosses the one of the holes in the strand.
According to a preferred embodiment, the locking of the clasp in the closed position is obtained by the collaboration of a stud provided with a clip housed in a groove and projecting from the lateral surface of the stud and integral with one of the branches of the clasp with a hole formed by two opposite countersinks on the second branch.
The invention will be described in more detail using the attached drawing showing an embodiment according to the invention.
Figure 1 is a side view of the partially deployed clasp.
Figure 2 is an enlarged and partially sectional view of the locking pin.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view of the locking hole.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the flat piece forming the loop of the clasp.
The clasp comprises two branches 1 and 2 slightly curved to match the wrist of the user, connected at one of their ends by a hinge 3. The inner branch, which is in direct contact with the wrist, is provided, on the one hand , a locking hole 4 and on the other hand a bar 5 for fixing the end of the bracelet strand which usually is provided with a buckle and a pin. The bar 5 is fixed between two cheeks 6. The other branch 2 is provided with a stud 7 extending perpendicularly to the wall of the branch 2 which will be in contact, in the closed position, with the first branch 1 and disposed of so that it comes to be embedded in the hole 4 of the first branch 1.
The free end of the second branch 2 is provided with a loop formed by a ring 8 having two projections 10 provided with holes 11 for the passage of a transverse axis ensuring the articulation of the ring to the branch 2. The ring 8 is provided with a stud 9 perpendicular to the plane of the ring 8.
To adjust the strap length, the end of the strand provided with the holes between the ring 8 and the end of the branch 2 is introduced, after slightly tilting the ring 8 in the direction of the arrow F and when the desired length is obtained, the stud 9 is introduced into the corresponding hole of the strand by tilting the ring in the opposite direction to the arrow F.
In the closed position of the clasp, the portion of strand located beyond the end of the branch 2 and of the ring 8 is held laterally by the cheeks 6 of the end of the branch 1. In the closed position of the clasp, the part of the ring extending beyond the articulation, that is to say in this case the part which does not carry the stud 9, comes to bear against the strand fixed to the bar 5 or against the protruding end of the other strand and thus cannot tilt and accidentally cause the release of the strand of the stud 9. In the open position of the clasp, the rigidity of the bracelet prevents such accidental stalling.
The locking of the clasp is obtained by the notched assembly of the stud 7 which is provided with a groove 7a in which is housed an iron wire 7b projecting relative to the lateral surface of the stud 9, and the hole 4 which is formed by two opposite millings 4a, 4b thus forming a narrowing which prevents the accidental withdrawal of the stud 7.
The diameter of the narrowing thus created is, of course, less than the outside diameter of the ring formed by the wire 7b.
Instead of the ring 8, one can have any other equivalent flat part, full or not, such as a representation of a trade mark.
