Abstract

Transverse bars (7) of ultra-hard material, serving both to keep the crystal in place and also as decorative elements, are welded, at their ends, to lugs (10) through which pass screws (12) serving for their fixing to the case body. By virtue of this arrangement of the ultra-hard bars (7), in particular of the fact that they are held by their ends only, they are not stressed during expansions and do not run the risk of being deformed. <IMAGE>

Such wristwatch boxes are known per se, the transverse parts made of extra hard material having an aesthetic purpose. This is the case, for example, in the watch case described and represented in the European patent application N000l5242.

The mounting of such parts offers difficulties because the extra hard materials are very difficult to machine. In addition, their coefficient of expansion is not the same as that of the other elements of the box so that, in use, stresses occur in said extra-hard parts which can lead to deformations of these- this.

The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to give such transverse parts a role which is not only aesthetic but functional as elements for assembling parts of the box.

This object is achieved by the means defined in the claim.

The watch shown in figs 1 to 6 comprises a movement 1, provided with a dial 2, housed in a box comprising a middle part or body of the box 3, a bottom 4 engaged by force, by a flange 4a, in the box body 3, with the interposition of a seal 5, and a crystal 6, made of tempered mineral glass, held in place by two transverse bars 7 made of extra hard material, for example made of sintered material. The box further includes a flange 8 against which a sealing gasket 9 bears, interposed between the crystal 6 and the middle part 3.

The bars 7 are provided, at their ends, with two fixing lugs 10 (fig. 2), to which they are welded, which are drilled with tapped holes 11 (fig. 2) in which take fixing screws 12 passing through the body of box 3 (fig. 6). Thus, the bars 7 exert, by their part 7a projecting over the edge, bevelled, designated by 13, of the ice, an axial pressure on the latter tending to compress the sealing gasket 9.

It should be noted that the bars 7 play a decorative role in the sense that they may be of a different appearance from that of the rest of the case and that they cover the strap fixing horns formed by projections 3a ( figs 3 and 5) shown by the box body 3.
