PATENTANSPRÜCHE
1. Kosmetische Emulsion, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sie, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht der Emulsion, 1-20 Gew.-% eines Wasser-in-Öl-Emulgators in Form eines neuen Polycarbonsäure-2-hydroxyalkylesters der Formel
("COOH)n Rx

worin A gegebenenfalls substituiertes oder durch Heteroato-me unterbrochenes Alkyl, oder Cycloalkyl, oder Aryl, Rj Wasserstoff oder Alkyl mit 1-12 C-Atomen, R2 Alkyl mit 12-22 C-Atomen, n^ 0, m ^2 und m^n bedeuten und die Summe n 4- m ^ 3 ist.
2. Emulsion nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass in der Formel I die Summe n+m = 4 ist.
3. Emulsion nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass in der Formel IR2 Alkyl mit 14-18 C-Atomen bedeutet.
4. Emulsion nach einem der vorangehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Emulgator der Formel a (-cooh)
a (-coo-ch2-choh-r2) (ia> 2 3
worin A Alkyl oder Cycloalkyl mit 4-5 C-Atomen und R2 Alkyl mit 14-18 C-Atomen bedeuten, entspricht.
5. Emulsion nach einem der vorangehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Emulgator von der Butan-1,2,3,4-tetracarbonsäure abgeleitet ist.
6. Emulsion nach einem der Ansprüche 1-4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Emulgator von der Cyclopentan-1,2,3,4-tetracarbonsäure abgeleitet ist.
7. Emulsion nach einem der vorangehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sie den Emulgator in einem Mengenanteil von 2-10 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht der Emulsion, enthält.
8. Emulsion nach einem der vorangehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sie ausserdem pflanzliche oder tierische Fette, Wachse, Fettalkohole, Kohlenwasserstoffe, Parfümöle und weitere Hilfsstoffe, einzeln oder im Gemisch untereinander, enthält.
Die Herstellung der beschriebenen Polycarbonsäure-2-hydroxyalkylester der Formel I kann in bekannter Weise durch Umsetzung von Polycarbonsäuren der Formel
A (-COOH)n+m mit Epoxiden der Formel
R2-CRi-CH2,
\<y in denen A, Rls R2, n und m die im Patentanspruch 1 angegebene Bedeutung haben, erfolgen.
Eine andere Möglichkeit zur Herstellung der beschriebenen Polycarbonsäure-2-hydroxyalkylester der Formel I besteht in der Veresterung von Polycarbonsäuren der Formel
A (-CGOH)n+m mit Alkandiolen der Formel

nach allgemein bekannten Veresterungsverfahren.
Als Polycarbonsäurekomponente der beschriebenen Polycarbonsäure-2-hydroxyalkylester der Formel I sind grundsätzlich alle Polycarbonsäuren mit 3 und mehr Carb-oxylgruppen geeignet. Beispiele für derartige Polycarbonsäuren sind Tricarballylsäure,
Aconitsäure,
Citronensäure,
Butan-l,2,3,4-tetracarbonsäure,
Pentan-l,2,3,4,5-pentacarbonsäure,
Hexan-l,2,3,4,5,6-hexacarbonsäure,
Cyclopentan-l,2,3,4-tetracarbonsäure,
Cyclohexan-hexacarbonsäure,
Nitrilotriessigsäure,
Äthylendiamintetraessigsäure,
Trimellithsäure,
Trimesinsäure,
Pyromellithsäure,
Meilithsäure.
Besondere Bedeutung als Polycarbonsäurekomponente besitzen dabei die Tricarbonsäuren und Tetracarbonsäuren.
Die als weitere Ausgangskomponente für die Herstellung der Polycarbonsäure-2-hydroxyalkylester der Formel I eingesetzten Epoxide beziehungsweise Diole werden in bekannter Weise aus den entsprechenden Olefinen oder Olefingemi-schen erhalten. Dabei wird es sich in der Praxis im allgemeinen um Gemische von Epoxiden beziehungsweise Diolen verschiedener Kettenlängen handeln, wie zum Beispiel um Ci2_i(T, ClfM8-, C16_20-= c ifr-24-alkan-1,2-Epoxide beziehungsweise -alkan-l,2-diole.

Die beschriebenen Polycarbonsäure-2-hydroxy-alkyl-ester der Formel I eignen sich sehr gut als Wasser-in-Öl-Emulgatoren, insbesondere für die Herstellung kosmetischer Emulsionen dieses Typs. Als besondere Vorteile dieser Emulgatoren sind ihre spontane Emulgierwirkung sowie das glatte und glänzende Aussehen der damit hergestellten Cremes zu nennen. Ferner ist die gute Verteilbarkeit der damit hergestellten Cremes auf der Haut hervorzuheben. Die Cremes wirken nicht klebrig und hinterlassen ein angenehmes Hautgefühl. Die Emulgatoren sind färb- und geruchlos und nicht oxidationsanfällig. Die damit hergestellten Emulsionen können im allgemeinen auch von Personen mit empfindlicher Haut angewendet werden. Da sie keinen nennenswerten Eigengeruch besitzen, erfordern sie keine stärkere Parfümierung, was sich wiederum günstig auf die Verträglichkeit und daneben kostensparend auswirkt.
Besondere Bedeutung im Hinblick auf die Emulgatorei-genschaften kommt unter den beschriebenen Polycarbon-säure-2-hydroxyalkylestern der Formel I denjenigen zu, die sich von Tetracarbonsäuren und hier wiederum insbesondere von der Butan-l,2,3,4-tetracarbonsäure und Cyclo-pentan-l,2,3,4-tetracarbonsäure ableiten. Unter diesen Estern zeichnen sich die Verbindungen mit einem Veresterungsgrad von 3 besonders aus. Im Hinblick auf die alkoholische Esterkomponente liegt das Wirkungsoptimum bei einer durchschnittlichen Kettenlänge von 16 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen. Demnach sind als bevorzugte Polycarbon-säure-2-hydroxyalkylester Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel

in der A einen Alkyl- oder Cycloalkylrest mit 4-5 Kohlenstoffatomen und R2 einen Alkylrest mit 14-18 Kohlenstoffatomen darstellen, anzusprechen.
Die Herstellung der erfindungsgemässen Emulsion kann auf einfache und bekannte Weise durch Lösen des als Emulgator dienenden Polycarbonsäure-2-hydroxyalkylesters in der öligen Phase bei erhöhter Temperatur um 60-70°C, anschliessende Zugabe der gewünschten Menge auf 60-65 °C erwärmten Wassers und Kaltrühren der erhaltenen Emulsion erfolgen. Weitere Inhaltsstoffe der herzustellenden kosmetischen Emulsion, wie Hautfeuchtigkeitsregulatoren, pflanzliche Wirkstoffauszüge, Vitamine, Hormone, Pigmente, Salze, Parfümöle, UV-Filterstoffe, Farbstoffe werden zweckmässigerweise in der diese jeweils am besten aufnehmenden Phase gelöst, beziehungsweise verteilt. Der Mengenanteil Emulgator beträgt vorzugsweise 2-10 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf die gesamte kosmetische Emulsion. Die einzuarbeitende Wassermenge kann 20-75 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf die gesamte kosmetische Emulsion, betragen.
Als Ölphase der erfindungsgemässen kosmetischen Emulsion kommen die üblicherweise verwendeten Produkte, wie tierische und pflanzliche Öle und Fette, synthetische Ester von Fettsäuren mit aliphatischen Alkoholen, höhere Fettalkohole, Wachse, sogenannte mineralische Fette und Öle, wie Paraffmöl, Vaseline, Ceresin, ferner Silikonöle und Silikonfette, in Frage.
Im nachstehenden wird beispielsweise die Herstellung einiger Polycarbonsäure-2-hydroxyalkylester der Formel I beschrieben.
A. Butan-1,2,3,4-tetracarbonsäure-tri-2-hydroxy-C16/i8-alkylester
234 g Butan-l,2,3,4-tetracarbonsäure (1 Mol) wurden mit 760 g C16/i8-Alkan-l,2-epoxid (3 Mol) in Gegenwart von 2 Gewichtsprozent (20 g) Benzyldimethylalkylammonium-chlorid 4,5 Stunden lang unter Rühren auf 120°C erhitzt. Nach dem Abkühlen wurde ein farbloses Produkt von weicher, salbenartiger Beschaffenheit erhalten. Die Kennzahlen der Verbindung waren folgende: OHZ = 124, VZ = 202, SZ=39.
In analoger Weise wurden die anderen nachstehend aufgeführten Polycarbonsäure-2-hydroxyalkylester erhalten.

Unter Verwendung vorstehend aufgeführter Polycarbon-säure-2-hydroxy-alkylester als Emulgator wurden die nachstehenden Ausführungsformen der erfindungsgemässen kosmetischen Wasser-in-Öl-Hautcremen hergestellt.
Zur Herstellung der Cremes wurde der jeweilige Emulgator in den öligen Bestandteilen gelöst und die so erhaltene Olphase auf 60 °C erwärmt. Salze, Konservierungsmittel und andere wasserlösliche Bestandteile wurden in der benötigten
Wassermenge gelöst und die erhaltene wässrige Phase wurde auf 65°C erwärmt. Danach wurde die Wasserphase langsam unter Rühren in die Ölphase eingetragen und die Masse wurde bis zum Erkalten weitergerührt. Es wurden in allen Fällen stabile, glatte, glänzende Cremes erhalten. Durch Einarbeitung weiterer Wirkstoffe, wie Hautfeuchtigkeitsregulatoren, Pflanzenauszüge, Parfümöle usw., lassen sich auf diesen Basiscremes Hautcremes für die verschiedensten Zwecke aufbauen.
