Abstract

A description is given of a liquid-crystal display having a reflector provided on the rear electrode, in which the potential difference between the driven leads to the segments of the front electrode and the respectively opposite part of the reflector is always less than the threshold voltage of the liquid-crystal layer. The disclosed liquid-crystal display is characterised by a guest/host liquid-crystal layer and, as reflector (9) by electrically conductive subregions (20) which are electrically insulated with respect to one another and are mounted on the rear electrode (3) and/or on the inner surface of the rear cell plate (4). The display thus characterised can be produced in a cost-effective way, has in comparison with previous displays, in particular with the known nematic twisted cells, better optical properties and a larger viewing angle, without rendering the segment leads visible during driving. The disclosed display is applied in modern production of displays. <IMAGE>
