Abstract

Novel indole derivatives of the following formula I <IMAGE> are prepared, in which the substituents are as defined in Claim 1. These compounds are obtained by reacting an appropriately substituted indole compound, in which the chain A contains a terminal halogen atom, an equivalent replaceable terminal atom or a terminal radical, e.g. an organic sulphonyl radical, with the appropriately substituted piperidine compound. The said compounds can be converted into the acid addition salts or quaternary ammonium salts. If the chain A contains keto groups, the latter can be selectively reduced to hydroxy groups. The said compounds have a hypotensive and antihypertensive activity and can be used as medicaments for the treatment of hypertension or alternatively as intermediates for the preparation of compounds having hypotensive activity.
