Abstract

The composition is obtained by dissolving iodine in a surface-active agent, adding an aqueous solution of a tertiary amine oxide to the mixture and acidifying it. The tertiary amine oxide is especially bis(2-hydroxyethyl)decylamine oxide, pyridine N-oxide or the N-oxide of an alkoxyalkyldimethylamine. The composition has bactericidal, fungicidal and viricidal properties. It is useful for disinfecting infected objects and premises, as well as for cleaning the hands of surgeons before operations.
