Abstract

The invention comprises the compound of the formula <FORM:1084446/C2/1> The compound is prepared by dehydrogenating 9,10 - dihydro - 4H - benzo - [4,5] -cyclohepta-[1,2-b]-thiophen-4-one by treatment with a halogenating agent followed by dehydrohalogenation. This may be achieved by heating with N-bromosuccinimide, in carbon tetrachloride in the presence of dibenzoyl peroxide, and then heating the product with a tertiary amine, e.g. triethylamine.
