Abstract

This needle (1) is intended in particular to work on yarns with variable characteristics, in particular on thick wefts. It comprises a gripper (6) with controlled opening comprising a stationary jaw (7) in the form of a hook and a pivoting jaw (9) elastically returned against the stationary jaw. The pivoting jaw, which has an opening control lever (15), comprises at its end a flat (17) bearing at rest against the inner side (18) of the hook, and one surface of which forms in this position an angle with the side, which angle is open towards the rear of the needle and is used to block the weft yarn (11) between the jaws. The facing surfaces of the flat and of the inner side may comprise reliefs improving the gripping of the yarn. <IMAGE>
