Method for flame-proofing textile structures The subject matter of the invention is a method for flame-proofing textile structures, in particular floor covering material or curtain material, made of fully synthetic fibers by treating these structures with a high-polymer containing phosphorus.
Numerous compounds for flame retarding molded structures made of plastics or threads or fibers have already been proposed. As flame retardants, for example, low volatility organic bromine compounds and halogen-containing mixed polymers are known.
However, these known products do not meet all of the conditions that are placed on the flame-proofing of textile structures. The use of such agents must namely not cause any additional soiling, and these agents must be vacuum cleaner-proof, shampoo-proof, cleaning-resistant and abrasion-resistant.
Furthermore, they must not reduce the physical properties, in particular the strength of the threads or fibers.
The Swiss patent specification No. 380 076 describes a method for making textiles flame resistant. described by applying to a fabric consisting of threads produced by spinning a cellulose acetate solution containing a flame retardant, or to the threads, fibers and yarns used for the production of the fabric,
a polymer coating is applied. The flame retardant is then located in the thread, which is coated with a film-forming polymer. In contrast to the method according to the invention, the flame retardant is applied to the textile structure in the form of a polymer film,
whereby a higher degree of efficiency is achieved with low orders.
The method according to the invention for making textile structures flame-resistant, in particular floor coverings or curtain goods, by treatment with a tri- (haloalkyl) phosphate is characterized in that the textile structures are treated with a reaction product of a tri- ( haloalkyl)
phosphate with a copolymer of styrene and an unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride, the molecular weight of which is 10,000 to 80,000 treated.
The copolymers consist of styrene and an un saturated carboxylic acid anhydride; such as maleic anhydride or citraconic anhydride, with a molecular weight of 10,000 to 80,000, preferably 30,000.
Tri- (haloalkyl) phosphates are, for example, TTi-chloroethyl) phosphate, tri- (dichloroethyl) -phosphate, tri- (trichloropropyl) -phosphate, tri- (dich @lorbutyl) -phosphate, tri- (bromate ' hy1) phosphate, tri- (dibromoethyl) phosphate or tri- (dibromopropyl) phosphate are used.
The reaction can be carried out in organic solvents or aqueous emulsions at elevated temperature or by applying the component mixtures in organic solvents or aqueous emulsions,
Evaporation of the solvent and reaction of the undiluted products on the surface of the molded structure to form elastic films that are insoluble in water and in organic solvents. The treatment with the high-polymer, phosphorus-containing reaction products results in shaped textile structures such as fibers of natural and synthetic origin, for example polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, polyester, cellulose and wool fibers,
The textile products made from it, in particular floor coverings and curtains, are made flame-resistant. In general, who applied the reaction products from organic solvents or from aqueous emulsions.
The treated textile structures also have the advantage of a greatly reduced susceptibility to soiling. Another advantage of the fully reacted reaction products after the treatment is their washing, cleaning, shampooing, abrasion, vacuum cleaner and, in the case of floor coverings, their ability to be walked on.
Example 1 Tufted carpets made of 80% polyacrylonitrile and 20% polyamide fibers (pile weight: about 1 kg / m2) are treated with a spray device with 300 ml / m2 of a solution which was made as follows:
100 g of tri- (2,3-d-bromopropyl) phosphate are dissolved in acetone together with 33.3 g of styrene-maleic acid anhydride polymer with a molecular weight of about 30,000 and made up to 1 liter.
The solution of the reaction mixture is heated to 60 C for 3 hours. Then 6.7 g of a plasticizer, e.g. the monostearic acid ester of triethandmonium formate, 6.8 g of an ethoxylated stearyl alcohol and 5 ml of water are added to the cooled solution with stirring.
After evaporation of the solvent and drying for 24 hours at room temperature, the carpet is treated with a tap vacuum cleaner for 3 min./m2. The sprayed carpet is unchanged in color and feel. The measurement of the percentage decrease in brightness of the treated carpet after soiling is 22.7%.
The value of the untreated goods is 22.4%. According to DIN 51960 (pulp-ethane test), the flammability test of the treated goods is considered non-ignitable. The untreated carpet will burn off. In the ignition test with the Bunsen burner, the carpet is rated as hardly combustible and self-extinguishing.
Example 2 Tufted carpets made of 100% polyacrylonitrile fluorine (floor weight: approx. 1 kg / m2) are treated with the aid of a spray device with 300 mt / m2 of an emulsion which was prepared as follows:
86.5 g of tri- (2,3-dibromopropy4) phosphate are added to 223 g of a 12.9% ethyl acetate solution of styrene maleic anhydride polymer with a molecular weight of about 20,000 and containing 28 g of the polymer, and the solution is added for one hour Maintained boiling temperature. Then 5.7 g of plasticizer, z. B. the monolauric acid ester of Tri- äthanolammoniumformate, 5.7 g antistatic product, z. B.
a dodecylammonium compound and 10 g of emulsifier, e.g. benzotoxydiphenyl polyglycol ether, are added. 358 ml of H20 are stirred into the solution by hand and then, after adding a further 358 ml of H20 Turbinated for 1 minute with a high-speed egg.
The sprayed carpets are dried for 1 hour at 80 ° C. in a drying cabinet or for 48 hours at room temperature. The carpet is then treated with a hammer vacuum cleaner for 1 min./m2. After this treatment, the carpet is unchanged in color and feel. The measurement of the percentage decrease in brightness of the sprayed carpet after soiling is 24.1%.
The value of untreated goods is 23.8%. According to DIN 51960 (cellulose-ethanol test), the flammability test of the finished carpets cannot be ignited. Untreated goods burn off.
Compared to the ignition test with the Bunsen burner from the side and from above, the carpet is rated as flame-retardant and self-extinguishing. Example 3 Polyacrylonitrile fiber velor fabric is treated with an aqueous emulsion on the Foularcd with a squeeze setting of 100 %,
which contains 84.4 g / 1 of the reaction product described below. The velor fabric is then dried on the stenter at 100 C and a contact time of 1.5 minutes. The burning time of the material measured on the arc burning tester is then 105 seconds and goes out after a total burning distance of 180 ° C.
The emulsion used was made in the following way: 173 g of tri- (2,3-dibromopropyl ') - phosphate are converted into 223 g of a 26% ethyl acetate solution of styrene - citraconic anhydride polymer with a molecular weight of 15,000, which contains 59 g of polymer, added and kept at boiling temperature for 11/2 hours. Then 6.2 g of plasticizer, e.g.
B. triethanolammonium formate monostearylic acid ester, 5 g of a dodecylammonium compound and 10 g of emulsifier, e.g. o-benzyloxydiphenyl glycate ether are added. 358 ml of H2O are stirred into the solution by hand and then added.
Addition of a further 358 ml of H20, turbinated for 1 minute with a rotary stirrer. The emulsion produced in this way is then diluted to 3 1 with H 2 O and used for padding.
Example 4 Curtain fabric made of polyacrylonitrile fibers is treated on the FouQard with a squeeze effect of 100% with an aqueous emulsion which contains 110.5 g / l of the reaction product described below. The fabric is then placed on the stenter at 110 C and a contact time of 1.5 minutes.
.dried. The burning time of the material, measured on the arc burning test device, is 92 seconds and goes out after a burning distance of 90 C. Untreated goods burn down over the entire burning distance of 180 C.
The emulsion used was prepared as follows: 213.6 g of tri- (dichloropropyl) phosphate were added to 223 g of an ethyl acetate solution of polystyrene maleic anhydride with a molecular weight of 20,000 and containing 112 g of polymers, and the mixture was heated to 80 ° C. for 1 hour. Then 9 g of triethanol ammonium formate monododecyl ester are added as a plasticizer, 5 g of an antistatic agent, e.g.
B. a Doiecylammoniumverbindungen, and 10 g emulsifier, z. B. o-Benzyloxydiphenylpolyglpkol- äther, and 400 g H20 stirred into the viscous solution by hand. The mixture is then made up to 1 l with H 2 O and the mixture is turbined for 1 min with a high-speed stirrer. 1 1 of the emulsion prepared in this way is diluted to 3 1 with water and in
applied as described above.
