Abstract
The holding vessel for the molten metal is directly connected to the mould, which contains a prim. and sec. cooling zone. The sec. zone consists of interchangeable, self-contained segments, each having a separately-controlled coolant supply. The sec. zone pref. contains both direct and indirect cooling segments with temp. indicators regulating the coolant flow. The advantage is that the temp. gradient along the entire mould can be accurately controlled.
