The invention relates to a milling machine with a cantilevered upper frame or support carriage on which a milling head is pivotably held about a transverse horizontal axis, a milling spindle including a bearing sleeve or quill being arranged in the milling head and being in drive connection with a drive motor through a transmission gear.
Milling machines of this type are known in many designs. In all of them, the transmission has a pair of bevel gears, the axis of rotation of one bevel gear coinciding with the axis about which the milling head can be pivoted. Such bevel gears are known to have various disadvantages; u. a. they are expensive, especially if they have special teeth that are supposed to reduce noise and vibration in the bevel gear.
The invention is based on the object of designing a milling machine of the type mentioned in the introduction in such a way that there is no pair of bevel gears in the drive connection between the drive motor and the milling spindle.
According to the invention, this object is to be achieved in that a housing of the milling head consists of one end part of a support body, on the other end part of which the drive motor is flanged parallel to the milling spindle and its hollow and outside cylindrical central section rotatable and non-displaceable around the said horizontal axis in the front end part of the Frame upper part or support carriage is mounted, and that all shafts and gears of the transmission gear housed in the support body have axes of rotation which are parallel to those of the milling spindle and the shaft of the drive motor.
In a preferred embodiment, the transmission gear is a sliding gear change gear, the intermediate shafts of which are accommodated in the middle section of the support body.
The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention.
1 is a perspective view of the milling machine, the milling head being shown in the position in which the milling spindle extends in the vertical direction,
2 is a partial side view, the milling head being shown in the position in which the milling spindle extends in the horizontal direction and a counter holder is attached to the milling head, and FIG
3 shows a diametrical section of a support body with the milling head, the milling spindle drive motor and the transmission gear.
The milling machine shown is one with a workpiece mounting table 1 which is movable in two coordinate directions in a conventional manner. On the stand 2 of the machine frame, a support slide 3, which is very stiff thanks to internal ribbing, can be displaced forwards and backwards and is arranged so as to cantilever over the table 1. The front end part of this support carriage 2 forms a bearing 5 which can be clamped by means of screws 4 and in which the hollow and externally cylindrical central section 6a of a support body 6 is rotatably and immovably mounted about a transverse horizontal axis. A housing 6b of the milling head consists of one end part of the support body 6 - on the left in FIGS. 1 and 3 - to the other end part 6c of which the electric milling spindle drive motor 7 is flanged.
The milling spindle 8 is mounted in a customary manner in a quill 9 which can be displaced in the milling head 6b by actuating an arm 10. (This arm sits releasably on the outer end 1 1a of a shaft 11, which is in engagement with a pinion 1 1b formed on it with a rack teeth 9a formed on the quill 9.) The rear part of the milling spindle 8 is designed as a spline shaft, which is in sliding engagement with the correspondingly grooved hub 12a of a spur gear 12.
As shown in FIG. 3, the gear wheel 12 is rotatably and immovably mounted in the milling head housing 6b.
The axis of rotation of the milling spindle 8 extends parallel to that of the shaft of the drive motor 7 and the shafts 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 of a transmission gear housed in the support body 6, which - as shown in Fig. 3 - is partly known as a sliding gear change gear Design is formed; the shafts 14, 15, 16, 17 are in the middle section
6a of the support body housed, as well as z. B. the sliding wheels 18, 19, 20. The gear 21, which meshes with the gear 12 coaxial with the milling spindle 8, is a spur gear which is fixed on the shaft 17 so that it cannot be displaced.
The shifting of the sliding wheels takes place as usual by means of forks which are arranged displaceably on support axes parallel to the shafts 14, 15, 17. Each of these forks is connected to an actuating arm which is firmly seated on the inner end of an associated actuating shaft which extends parallel to the axis of rotation of the support body 6 and on its right-hand (Fig. 3) end face of the
Support body 6 protruding end is provided with an actuating handle.
The milling head housing 6b has a Schwalbenschwanzfüh tion into which either a cover part 22 (Fig. 1) or the rear end part of a conventional counter holder 23 can be inserted (Fig. 2).
Various changes could be made to the embodiment shown. The part 3 could be an upper frame part firmly connected to the stand 2.
Instead of a quill, part 9 could be an axially immovable bearing sleeve in the milling head. Finally, the transmission gear does not necessarily have to be partially designed as a sliding gear change gear.
