La fig. 1 en représente une vue en élévation;
la fig. 2 en est une vue en coupe partielle;
la fig. 3 représente une utilisation de rappareil;
Device for progressing along a rope
Devices are known which make it possible to climb and even descend along a suspended rope. These devices consist of two independent brackets, fitted with a locking device, in which cords for the feet are attached. However, these devices prove to be delicate and impractical to use.
The present invention relates to a simple and robust device, making it possible to progress along a rope, characterized in that it comprises a tubular element in which slides a hollow part having a passage for the rope and at one end of the rope. which is pivoted an eccentric, this eccentric being connected at a point close to its axis, by a spring, to the tubular element and having on the other hand an arm against which the tubular element abuts at a point of the eccentric farther from its axis than the point of attachment of the spring, the whole in such a way that in the rest position, the tubular element, under the effect of the spring, maintains the eccentric against the rope, a traction on the string in the opposite direction to the eccentric, causing the eccentric to jam on the string.
This device, used alone, or with other identical devices, finds many uses, in particular in mountaineering, to hoist oneself or to hoist a load, for example during a rescue operation.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows an elevational view;
fig. 2 is a partial sectional view thereof;
fig. 3 shows a use of the apparatus;
fig. 4 shows another use of the apparatus.
The illustrated apparatus comprises a tubular part 1 of square section in which a U-shaped iron 2 slides. The sliding part 2 carries at its end an eccentric 3 pivoted at 4 between the two wings of the U and attached by a point 5 located nearby from axis 4 to part 1 by a spring 6, working in tension, and housed in a tube 7 welded to part 1. Under the effect of spring 6, part 1 tends to move closer to eccentric 3 The part 1 carries a finger 8 which abuts against an arm 9 of the eccentric 4 so as to apply this eccentric on a rope 10 crossing the part 2.
The part 1, serving as a handle, is provided with a hook 11 forming a stop for the user's hand, while part 2 is provided with a trigger 12 allowing the user to pull part 2 towards the top in fig.
1 and 2 to move the finger 8 away from the arm 9 and thus separate the eccentric of the rope 10 in order to release the latter. The trigger 12 abuts at the end of its travel at the bottom of a notch 13 cut in part 1.
The operation of the apparatus is clear from the drawing. The rope 10 being taut, when the part 1 is pushed in the direction of the arrow F, the rope is released and the apparatus can slide along it. When the part 1 is then pulled in the opposite direction, the finger 8 presses the eccentric on the string so that the device cannot move on the string in the direction opposite to the arrow F.
By means of two devices, mounted one behind the other on the same rope, we see that it is possible to progress rapidly by holding alternately to one then to the other of the devices while we are advancing alternately one, then the other of the devices on the rope. It is also possible to descend along the rope by alternately unlocking the two devices, by acting on trigger 12.
So as to free both hands, the user can hang from the lower device by a fastener fixed on the one hand to his belt and on the other hand to a ring of the device.
The device can also be used to grab hold of a rope or mobile cable, for example to go up a ski slope. The device advantageously in this case having a lateral opening over its entire length allowing the device to be released laterally from the cord.
Such a device with a lateral opening also makes it possible to descend along a rope taken twice in the device and hooked, for example, to a peak or a rock projection. The side opening allows one of the strands of the rope to be released to remove it from the eyebolt by pulling on the other strand.
By combining several devices with a set of pulleys, it is possible to constitute lifting installations making it possible to lift a load, for example an injured person, in the event of a rescue operation.
Fig. 3 illustrates such an assembly. At a fixed raised point 14 is hooked a first device 15 by a bracket 16, this device carrying a roller 17 and a ring 18 to which is attached a double pulley 19, constituting one of the parts of a block, the other of which is constituted by a double pulley 20 attached to a second device 22 mounted on the rope 10 attached to the load, the device 22 blocking in the opposite direction with respect to the device 15. The rope 10 passes through the first device 22, then the The apparatus 15 passes over the roller 17, then moves back and forth between the pulleys of the block, the lifting traction being effected on the end of rope leaving the block.
It is therefore possible to slide the apparatus 22 downwards, in the direction of the load along the rope, and then to exert traction on the end of the rope leaving the block. The rope can rise in the device 15, but cannot come down again being trapped by the eccentric of this device. The device 22 having been hauled towards the device 15, rejoins the device 15. It is then made back down along the rope and so on.
The advantage of this assembly is to use only 2 to 3 m of muffle in addition to the length of cord necessary to connect the apparatus 15 to the load.
Instead of a double block, it is of course possible to use a single block, in particular for mountaineering, the double pulley 20 being replaced by a single wheel mounted on a carabiner.
Other assemblies are of course possible by means of two or more devices, in which we generally find the same principle, one of the devices blocking in one direction and the other device in the other direction.
Fig. 4 illustrates another use of apparatus in which the user, for example a mountaineer, can hoist himself easily by means of a rope. For this purpose the rope is hooked to a fixed raised point 24, passes through a first device 23 then a second device 26 attached to the user's belt 25, then on a roller 28 secured to the device 26 then finally on a pulley 27 attached to the device 23 the rope brake leaving the pulley 27 being gripped by the user. The pulleys 27 and 28 constitute a single block which can obviously be replaced by a double block. The two devices 23 and 26 block in the same direction so that when the user pulls on the rope, the device 23 blocks on it, but the device 26 can move on the rope and come closer. device 23.
When the user releases the rope, the device 26 hangs on it and the user remains suspended by the device 26 and can move the device 23 towards point 24. By repeating this maneuver the user thus progresses along the rope.
