Fig. 1 einen Vertikalschnitt durch eine erfindungsgemässe Kühlanlage,
Cooling system
The present invention relates to a cooling system which is particularly suitable for use in large retail stores. Known cooling systems for this area of application usually have a cooling room with an access opening, which the latter is closed by an air curtain to prevent warm and humid ambient air from entering the cooling room and, conversely, to prevent cool air from inside can escape. Such cooling systems are described, for example, in U.S. Patent Nos. 3,239,432 and 3,304,736.
It has also been proposed to build similarly constructed, self-service planned, open cooling compartments which are combined with a storage room which can be brought into communication with the rear of these compartments through normally closed doors in the rear wall of the compartments. Such a cooling system is z. As described in U.S. Patent No. 2,993,349.
In contrast, the cooling system according to the invention is characterized by an insulated casing surrounding a cooling space with an access opening to the cooling space provided on the front, a storage zone in the cooling space, in the soft zone near the access opening a storage device for products to be cooled is provided, one in the cooling space behind The service zone provided for the parking device and in continuous connection with the parking zone, air supply means for creating an air curtain in said access opening, which means with an inlet connected to the service zone for the return of air and an air outlet directed downwards from the upper edge of said access opening communicate, and further characterized by a cooling device,
which works as a heat exchanger with the air circulating through the air guiding means, and by means which convey air through the air guiding means from the said air inlet to the air outlet.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the exemplary embodiments shown in the drawing. It shows:
1 shows a vertical section through a cooling system according to the invention,
2 shows a diagram of the cooling system used in the system according to the invention
3 shows a vertical section through a further embodiment of a cooling system according to the invention and
4 shows a vertical section through a third embodiment of a cooling system according to the invention.
In the embodiment of a cooling system according to the invention shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, this consists of an insulated casing with a floor 2, a rear wall 4 and a ceiling 6. The front of the system has an upper wall part 8 and a lower wall part 10, which in the Are spaced to form an access opening 12 on the front of the housing.
The cooling space 14 in the interior of the system has a perforated frame or a support 16 for products, which support is arranged directly behind and slightly below the access opening 12 to form a storage zone 18, while a service zone 20 is located behind the storage zone. The service zone is in continuous and open connection with the parking area in order to enable the operating staff to wait for buyers and to be able to add items to the display area in the parking area at any time and to arrange them appropriately or to refill products.
An air curtain 22 is built up in the access opening, in which air is blown downward through an outlet 24 arranged at the upper edge of the through opening, the outlet extending approximately over the entire width of the opening. The air which forms the air curtain 22 is drawn into an inlet 26 provided at the lower edge of the access opening and then through an air duct 28 by means of a blower 30. The blower serves to push the air thus drawn back through the service zone 20 to an inlet 32 for returning air, the inlet 32 being in the rear part of the
Cooling space 14 is located, and expediently under half of the perforated frame 16 in the storage zone.
Additional cooled air is blown down through the cooling space 14 and the storage and service zone of this space, through additional air outlet openings 34 in a cover plate 36, which extends over the upper part of the cooling space, at a height which is above the access opening 12 is located.
A fastening device 38 for a lamp is also arranged in the ceiling plate 36. Part of the air that flows out of the additional air outlet openings 34 flows down next to the air curtain 22 and serves to prevent the air curtain from escaping into the interior of the room, which of course would cancel the effect of the curtain or the entry of warmer , moist ambient air in the refrigerator compartment. This part of the additional air also serves to cool the storage zone and to keep the products placed on the perforated storage surface 16 at a predetermined low temperature. The air then flows from the parking zone to the rear and through the lower part of the service zone 20 to return to the air inlet 32 on the rear wall of the service zone.
The remaining part of the air flowing out of the additional air outlet openings 34 flows through the cooling space 14 down into its service zone 20 in order to cool it. This air then also flows back to inlet 32.
The inlet 32 for returning air advantageously extends over the entire width of the cooling space and is connected to a return duct 40 which is formed by a heat-conducting plate 42 which is arranged at a distance from the insulated rear wall 4 of the system. The upper end of the return duct 40 communicates with a chamber 44 for returning air, through which air is passed by means of the fan 46 in heat exchange via a cooling device 48. The air cooled by the cooling device 48 then flows forward into an air outlet chamber 50 and into a chamber 52 for additional air.
The air from the outlet chamber 50 flows through an outlet channel 54 with a reduced cross-section to the air outlet 24, the speed of the air flow being increased and this being blown down over the access opening 12 to form the air curtain 22. At the same time, the air from the chamber 52 for the additional air will exit downward, through the additional air outlet openings 34, which are located near the inside of the air curtain 22, and into and through the cooling space 14. To keep the temperature in the cooling space approximately constant and in order to keep the articles lying on it at an approximately uniform temperature, the cooling device 48 expediently consists of a plurality of cooling elements designated by 56, 58, 60 and 62 (FIG. 2).
One or more fans 46 are assigned to each cooling element in order to guide air from the chamber 44 via the cooling elements into the outlet chamber 50 and the chamber 52. However, each individual cooling element is provided with an envelope 66, which is provided with flaps or other closing elements 68 and 70, specifically on the outlet side, the envelope 66 being in communication with the outlet chamber 50 and the chamber 52 for additional air.
The closing elements 68 and 70 can be brought into a closed position by their own counterweight or in some other way, in order to prevent the passage of warm air into the chamber 50 and 52 if any of the cooling elements is not in operation or is defrosted. All of the chambers 50 and 52 supplied
Air is thus cooled air, through those elements that are in operation, with the outlet
24 and the outlet openings for additional air 34 supplied air is always kept at a constant and predetermined low temperature.
In the cooling system shown in FIG. 2, the
Cooling device 48 consists of four cooling elements 56, 58, 60 and 62, which are fed via a compressor 72, a condenser 74 and a receiver 76 through a coolant supply line 78 with coolant.
Each cooling element is of course provided with an expansion valve 80 and a return line
82 connected for refrigerant, which returns the refrigerant to the compressor 72.
The various cooling elements are arranged to be defrosted sequentially, under the control of watches or other suitable means
84, which are built into the power supply lines 86 and the electrical circuits 88 in such a way that the fans 46 assigned to each cooling element are always switched off when the associated cooling element is out of operation or is being defrosted, which takes place according to the cycle mentioned. The closing elements 68 and 70 (FIG. 1) on the outlet side of the enclosures 66 are closed during the defrosting period of an element, and the heat used to defrost such an element cannot exert any influence on the temperature of the air released into the chambers 50 and 52.
In the construction shown in FIG. 2, the defrosting of the cooling elements is carried out by means of the hot cooling gas perceived by the compressor 72 via a bypass line 90, the gas being supplied after actuation of the three-way valves 92 by means of control by the clocks 84. As shown in the exemplary embodiment, the cooling elements 56, 58, 60 and 62 can be arranged in pairs, so that two elements, such as, for example, the elements 56 and 60, can be defrosted at the same time while the other two elements 58 and 62 remain in operation, to maintain the cooling process or the operation of the system.
Thanks to this arrangement, the chambers 50 and 52 are continuously supplied with cooled air from at least two of the cooling elements, the temperature of the air which is blown out through the outlet opening 24 to form the air curtain 22 and that which is blown out through the auxiliary air outlet openings 34 to to cool the parking zone and the service zone of the cooling room 14, is kept at approximately the same value under all operating conditions of the system.
In the embodiment of a cooling system shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing, the air curtain 116 is formed over the access opening 12 in the front wall of the cooling system by two opposing air flows 112 and 114, which collide and mix, and then inward through the cooling space 14 to the inlet for returning air, which inlet 32 is located on the rear wall of the service zone 20. In this construction, the storage zone 18 is provided with a storage surface 100 for products which does not have any holes, as FIG. 3 shows, it being possible in this system to provide additional storage surfaces 102 on an arm 104 which is located on the rear of the storage surface 100 extends upwards.
The air from the service zone 20 is blown forward under the storage area 100 by means of a blower 106 and passed through the lower air duct 108 in order to exit through a second air outlet 110.
The air blown out in this way flows upwards to form the lower part 114 of the air curtain 116, while the air emerging downward from the outlet 24 forms the upper part 112 of the air curtain. These air currents merge to form the air curtain 116 and create a pressure zone approximately in the central portion of the access opening, which prevents ambient air from entering the cold room and also counteracts the tendency of the air curtain to migrate inwardly into the cold room.
The construction shown in FIG. 3 has outlet openings 34 for additional air, which are located in the front part of the ceiling plate 36 and are in communication with the chamber 52 for additional air. Additional blowers 118 can also be used to blow out the air flowing down through the additional air openings 34 parallel to the upper part 112 of the air curtain 116, and at the same time serve to uniformly cool the areas in the parking zone 18 and on the shelves 100 and 102 to effect arranged products. With this construction, a larger quantity of products can be cooled and made available to buyers without the cooling of the products being compromised.
The air from the upwardly directed flow 112 and the downwardly directed flow 114, which form the air curtain 116, flows inwardly through the cooling space 14 and into the service zone 20. Some of this air is removed from the service zone by means of the fan 106 and to form the lower portion 112 of the air curtain, while the majority of this air is returned through the return air inlet 32 and air return duct 40 for re-cooling by the cooler 48. In this way, the cooling space 14 is maintained at an even more uniform predetermined temperature, while the entry of ambient air into the cooling space and the exit of cold air and thus cooling loss is further reduced.
The cooling system used in the construction according to FIG. 3 is suitably similar to that according to FIG. 2, the air used to form the air curtain 116 and to cool the cooling space 14 not being heated at all during the defrosting periods of the cooling elements.
FIG. 4 of the drawing shows a further embodiment of a cooling system which is constructed similarly to that of FIG. 3 and also operates in a similar manner. This system is, however, provided with a further, external air circuit through which a protective layer of air is built up on the outside of the upper part 114 of the air curtain 116, also in the opening 12. For this purpose, the system is provided with an additional Luftnickführkanal 120 equipped, which lies between the rear wall 4 and the air return duct 40 and has an inlet opening 122 which is at the same level as the inlet opening 32 for returning air of the air return duct.
The return duct 120 leads upwards and forwards, specifically directly under the ceiling 6 of the system, and ends in a downwardly extending outlet passage 124 which lies between the upper front wall side 8 of the system and the outlet line 54 for cooled air.
The outlet passage 124 of the return duct for the protective curtain has an outlet opening 126 which is located next to the outlet opening 24 of the normal cooling air duct at the upper edge of the access opening 12.
The return duct 120 is expediently arranged in such a way that heat is exchanged with the return duct 40 and the chambers 44 and 50 over their entire length, with air being blown through the duct 124 by means of one or more fans 128.
In this way, a protective curtain 130 is formed on the outside of the upper section 114 of the air curtain 116. This air has an outlet temperature, after entering the inlet 122 on the rear side of the service zone 20, which corresponds to the temperature which the air in the cooling space 14 has, and it is kept at a temperature which is higher than the temperature which the forms upper section 114 of the air curtain 116, which, however, is slightly below the temperature of the ambient air in front of the access opening 12. At the same moment the protective curtain 130 becomes part of the actual air curtain, and it forms an external support for the cooling air flow and prevents it from escaping into the environment.
At the same time, the cooling air emerging from the outlet opening 34 for additional air in the cover plate 36 forms a support for the upper part 114 of the air curtain on the inside of the process in order to prevent it from breaking apart or
to prevent turbulence in the air curtain in the upper part 114. The protective air 130 also cooperates with the upwardly blown air of the lower section 112 of the air curtain to prevent cooling air from inside the cold room from escaping to the outside via the lower front wall 10 of the system. Thanks to this arrangement, the loss of cooling air is reduced even further and the required cooling capacity is thus reduced.
The downward flowing protective air curtain 130, after it has touched the lower and upper or inner part of the air stream 120, is directed inward over the shelves 102 and mixes with the cooling air of the air stream 112. These air streams then pass inward and downward and through the cooling space 14 to the inlet 32 and to the inlet 122 with the line 120 for the protective air.
The fan or fans 128, which keep the protective air in circulation, are expediently operated continuously and independently of each defrosting process. The protective air serves to prevent fluctuations in the temperature maintained in the cooling space and thus also the temperature of the products placed on the shelves 102 during the periods during which one or more of the cooling elements 56, 58, 60 and 62 are being defrosted and therefore not working. This effect is achieved in that only part of the relatively large volume of air which forms the air curtain and is blown through the cooling space 14 does not take part in the cooling process during the defrosting cycles.
Moreover, the defrosting periods and the reduced supply of cooled air to the system are in any case of very short duration, and the overall temperature increase of the air during these periods is minimal.
Although the cooling system according to the invention can be used for any desired temperature, it is particularly suitable for use in the exhibition for the sale and storage of meat products and vegetables or similar products which have to be kept at temperatures above freezing point and which are particularly strong React to temperature fluctuations. Thus, in a typical operating state, the device according to FIG. 4 will work in such a way that the temperature in the cooling space 14 is kept at a value of 0.5 to 10 Celsius. The air entering through the inlet openings 32 and 122 of the return channels 40 and 120 will then be approximately one degree Celsius.
The air exiting the outlet 126 of the passage 124 to form the protective air curtain 130 will be at a temperature of about 1.50 C, while the air exiting the outlet 110 of the lower air passage 108 to form the lower portion of the air curtain 116 will be at a temperature of about 1.50 C.
On the other hand, the air used to form the upper part 114 of the air curtain 116 and the air exiting into the upper part of the cooling space through the additional openings 34 will have a significantly lower temperature, for example -180.degree. During the defrosting periods of one or more of the cooling elements 56, 58, 60 and 62, the supply of cooling air will decrease somewhat and the temperature of the air will accordingly increase somewhat. The temperature of the air in the upper section 114 of the air curtain can rise to -12 or -90 degrees Celsius.
While such temperature changes to the temperature of the relatively large volume of air in the cooling space 14 produce a difference of no more than 50 C, the temperature changes when using the additional, protective air curtain are much smaller, namely about 10, even in relatively small systems, so that the state the deposited products can be essentially retained, without significant changes, for a much longer time than was previously possible.
