No 470208.
Aerosol product dispenser
The present invention relates to a dispenser of a product in aerosol form, comprising a container containing a propellant, mounted in a container containing the product to be dispensed so as to isolate the propellant from the product to be dispensed up to 'so that they are mixed during the actuation of an actuator of a flow control valve of the propellant.
In such dispensers, a valve housed in the head of the chamber containing the propellant normally prevents the outflow of this pressurized agent, but when the opening of this valve occurs as a result of the action of an ac tioning organ acting- + on it. this maneuver allows the propellant in gaseous form (vapor) to flow towards the outlet orifice. Thanks to the action of an ejector placed near the outlet orifice and to which are connected separate flow conduits coming respectively from the container containing the product and from the container containing the propellant.
The outward flow of the propellant when the valve is open, reduces the pressure in the product flow conduit and in the container containing the product, which ensures simultaneous flow of the product to the outside. By properly directing the flow of propellant to bring it into contact with the fluid product (for example by directing the propellant transversely to the mouth of the product flow duct) a fluid flow is achieved. atomized or sprayed.
Due to the natural tendency of many powdery materials to cake up and settle, the lack of a steady flow of gas within the container containing the product during the dispensing operation often results in a loss of gas. interruption or by variable and non-uniform flow of powdery products.
A commonly made observation shows that a non-fluidized powder tends to form a conical cavity around the inlet giving access to a centrally disposed vacuum supply tube. When the cavity which thus forms extends below the inlet to the delivery tube, further evacuation of the powder occurs only when the stirring force restores the level of the powder above. from the inlet to the supply pipe.
The pressure distributor according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises at least one flow channel for directing a stream of gas inside the container containing the product, in order to facilitate the flow of the latter during the actuation of the actuator of the flow valve of the propellant.
Thus, the gas forming propellant agent which is directed from the container containing this agent upon actuation of the valve acting on it, generates a stirring or stirring force inside the container containing the product to be dispensed.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, four embodiments of the dispenser which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a powder dispenser showing a surrounding container containing the product and drawn in vertical cross section.
Fig. 1a is a plan view of part of the dispenser shown in FIG. 1.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of a second embodiment showing part of an outer container containing the product also drawn in vertical cross section.
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of a third embodiment showing the chamber containing the propellant and part of the container containing the product with vertical cross section.
Fig. 4 is an elevational view in transverse vertical section of a fourth embodiment showing the outer container containing the product.
The container 20 Çflg. 1) containing the product surrounds the container 10 containing the propellant. This container 10 is mounted by fixing at the height of the mouth 21 of the container 20 containing the product to be dispensed.
The propellant container 10 comprises a head 12 (not shown in detail in Fig. 1) having a mounting bowl for closing the top port of the container, a manually controlled valve to influence the flow of the propellant. propellant, and an actuator 25 mounted on the stem of this valve passing through a central orifice of the mounting cup. The actuator comprises an ejector to which arrive conduits ensuring the delivery of the product to be dispensed and of the propellant. A dip tube 11 for raising the product communicates at its upper end with the product flow duct, which passes through the propellant container 10 towards the ejector. A container suitable for containing the propellant and the associated head are described in the Swiss patent.
No 470208.
The container 10 is held in the mouth 21 by means of a ring 22 integral with the outer wall of the container 10 and a complementary groove (not shown in the section of FIG. 1) made in the internal wall of the container 10. The mouth 21 of the container 20. At some distance around the inner wall of the mouth 21 of the container 20 containing the product are grooves or channels 23 which communicate the interior of this container 20 with the atmosphere. These channels 23 are directed from top to bottom towards the mass of the pulverulent product 24.
The various grooves 23 and their spacing are clearly visible in FIG. the. These grooves should be small enough to accelerate the incoming air to create a stream of air forming a jet.
The operation of the distributor produces a pressure drop in the container 20. The reduced pressure inside this container causes the air to rush through the channels 23 and to strike the mass of the pulverulent product 24. The impact air acts continuously and loosens the surface of the mass of this product 24 in order to prevent compacting or settling of the powder. The flow of air through the powder product 24 causes the individual powder particles to be surrounded by a mass of air, which swells the powder allowing its particles to move relative to each other with greater pressure. great ease.
Another possible embodiment of the invention is shown in FIG. 2 in which recesses or grooves 29 provided on the outer wall of the container 10 provide channels which communicate the interior of the container 20 containing the product with the atmosphere and cooperate with the mouth 21 of the container to produce spray orifices which spray jets of fluid.
In fig. 3, the container 20 containing the product is shown in partial section, and the container containing the propellant is shown as mounted in the mouth 21 of the container 20 in a manner similar to that shown in FIG. . 1. In fig. 3, the parts with like reference numbers correspond to the parts shown in fig. 1. The remainder of this description relates to a head designated as a whole by 30 comprising a manually controlled valve integral with a mounting bowl 31 which forms the closure of the upper orifice of the container 10 containing the propellant and a actuator 32 mounted on the stem 33 of the valve which passes through a central orifice 34 of the mounting cup 31.
The parts 35, 36 and 37 of the valve constitute respectively the seal, the valve plug and the body. This body 37 comprises a longitudinal central channel 39 which passes through the stem of the valve and communicates at its lower end with the product flow conduit 9 and at its upper end with the ejection mouth 40. The conduit 9 of the product. product flow is hermetically sealed with respect to the bottom of the container 10 containing the propellant by means of a fitted conical stopper 13. The product flow conduit 9 communicates with a product adductor tube 11 which enters the mass of it.
The body 37 of the valve further comprises a longitudinal channel 41 which surrounds the longitudinal channel 39 reserved for the product and communicates at its lower end with the orifice 38 of the body of the valve and at its upper end with the channel 42, the latter communicating with the ejection mouth 40 via the channel 43.
The actuator 32 affects the construction shown in Swiss Patent No. 470208 which has already been discussed above; it further comprises an annular part 46 extending laterally and an annular skirt 47 hanging below this lateral part 46.
The lower part of the skirt 47 comprises an annular ring or bead 48 engaged in an annular groove 49 of the outer wall of the mouth 21 of the container 20 containing the product, thus ensuring the mounting of the actuator 32 on it. container 20 and delimiting a closed chamber 45. The actuating member 32 is established so as to allow the downward movement of this member with respect to the receptacle 20 containing the product in order to actuate the valve. Thus, for example, the open side part 46 of this member 32 can be constituted by a relatively thin part made of a plastic material such as nylon or polyethylene so that when pressure is exerted on the finger on its surface 50, this lateral part 46 of the member 32 flexes from top to bottom.
In the stem of the valve 33 is formed an orifice 44 which allows a purging flow of the propellant from the channel 41 towards the chamber 45 delimited by the actuator 32 and its associated lateral part 46 and the part 47 forming a skirt. This purge orifice 44 has a controlled size which allows the passage of a limited quantity of the propellant from the channel 41 through the chamber 45 and ultimately through the grooves 23 of the wall of the container 20 containing the product while that it acts to stir the powder 24 (not shown). The amount of propellant which passes through the port 44 must be limited, so as to allow a sufficient amount of this agent to pass into the ejection port 40, to ensure a pressure drop in the conduits 11 and 39 for conveying the product.
The extent of purging to achieve maximum yield for each powdery product can be determined by trial and error.
The research which led to the invention made it possible in this regard to observe that with a powder having a grain size of less than a mesh size 60, an orifice having a diameter equal to 0.25 mm in a valve stem comprising a channel for the passage of the product itself having a diameter equal to 1.25 mm give satisfaction by stirring the powder as necessary while still producing a sufficient pressure drop in the conduit through which the product passes. The propellant being under a pressure equal to 4.9 kg / cm2 and at a temperature equal to 21 to 220 ° C., the length and the diameter of the product flow duct represent 175 mm and 1.75 mm respectively.
As a variant with respect to the orifice 44, which can moreover be single or multiple, the external wall of the body 37 of the valve and the rod 33 associated with it can have one or more grooves or grooves communicating with the container. containing the propellant and with the chamber 45 when the valve is actuated.
During operation, the pressure exerted by the finger on the actuator 32 lowers the body 37 of the valve and brings back the seal 35 in a known manner in order to put the orifice 38 in communication with the valve. space containing the vapor of the propellant. This vapor then passes into the channel 41 by borrowing the channels 42 and 43 towards the ejection mouth 40. The flow of the propellant through this mouth 40 causes a reduction in pressure in the channels 11 and 39. flow of the product and ensures a flow of the product through these channels towards the mouth 40, through which the flow is towards the atmosphere.
In addition, part of the propellant passing through the channel 41 escapes through the orifice 44 to arrive in the chamber 45 from where this agent passes through the grooves 23 to reach the container 20 containing the product where it spares a strong agitation for the powder.
In the construction shown in FIG. 3, the powder is stirred without introducing atmospheric humidity. Another advantage is that here the propellant acts as a fluidizer for the powder with all the concomitant advantages of a fluidization system for conveying a powder. The ratio of the dimensions of the flow channels 34 to the channels 23 ensures an adequate downward velocity of the propellant vapor.
It will be noted that the embodiment shown in FIG. 3 can also find its use to facilitate the distribution of viscous liquid products. The purge channels of the propellant then have proportions calculated so as to leave inside the container containing the product a pressure exceeding to a certain extent atmospheric pressure to facilitate the delivery of the product from the bottom up into the adductor tube 9.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 4 comprises, with a view to the introduction of a gas towards the mass of powder 24, an adductor tube 26 which communicates at its upper end with the groove 22 and extends from top to bottom in this mass of powder 24. This tube 26 can be perforated, that is to say provided with slender orifices 27, with a view to introducing the gas into the mass of powder 24.
This embodiment as shown in FIG. 4 can be employed by providing communication with the atmosphere at the upper end of adductor tube 26 (as shown) or can be designed to suit the embodiment of FIG. 3, the tube 26 replacing the channels 23.
