EMI0001.0003
worin A einen unsubstituierten oder substituierten Ben zolkern bedeutet, in welchem zwei benachbarte Kohlen stoffatome Glieder des Oxazolringes sind, durch Be handlung von Acylaminoverbindungen der Formel
EMI0001.0004

Process for the preparation of di-benzoxazolyl-ethylene compounds According to the main patent, α, s-di- [aryloxazolyl- (2)] -ethylenes can be used e.g. be prepared in such a way that one acylamino compounds of the formula
EMI0001.0002
where R1 and R $ each represent an arylene radical and the HO groups are each adjacent to the -HH group, treated with dehydrating agents, in particular zinc chloride.
It has been found that di-benzoxazolyl ethylene compounds of the formula
EMI0001.0003
wherein A is an unsubstituted or substituted benzene nucleus in which two adjacent carbon atoms are members of the oxazole ring, by treatment of acylamino compounds of the formula
EMI0001.0004
can produce with dehydrating agents in a particularly advantageous manner if a phosphoric acid of the formula Hn + 2PnO3n + 1 in which n is an integer greater than 1 is used as the dehydrating agent.
The acylamino compounds of the formula (3) which are used as starting materials in the present process may contain further substituents in the benzene rings, e.g. B. chlorine atoms, low molecular weight alkoxy groups such as ethoxy or methoxy, low molecular weight alkyl groups such as ethyl or especially methyl. The starting materials are known in the rest and can by known methods, for. B. by condensation of o-oxyaminobenzenes with malic acid.
In the present process, 3 mol of water have to be split off to form 1 mol of the compound of the formula (2) from the acylamino compound of the formula (3).
The phosphoric acids of the formula (4), such as. B. the pyrophosphoric acid (n = 2) or the Polyphosphorsäu ren (n> 2), can be obtained from orthophosphoric acid and phosphorus pentoxide in the appropriate proportions, z. B. so, - that a composition H4P2O7 or H6P4O13 results. For the rest, it can be left open whether the polyphosphoric acids are viewed as reaction products of orthophosphoric acid and phosphorus pentoxide or as dehydration products of orthophosphoric acids.
For dehydration, it is advantageous to use an excess of phosphoric acid of the type indicated, e.g. B. with five to ten times the amount of a polyphosphoric acid, based on the amount of the compound of formula (3). Further additives such as special catalysts or diluents are not required. If desired, air exclusion, z. B. work in a stream of nitrogen or in a vacuum. The elimination of water can take place in the heat, for example at temperatures between 140 and 200 C, expediently at about 160 C.
Working up is very easy. After the reaction has ended, the mixture only needs to be diluted with water and the di-benzoxazolyl-ethylene compound precipitates and can be filtered off. In this way, the end products of the present process are generally obtained in a degree of purity which, optionally after conversion into finely dispersed form, allows their direct use as optical brighteners.
