Method and device for sheathing bodies of revolution
The invention relates to a method and a device for sheathing bodies of revolution, such as pipes or containers, with one or more layers of plastic material by means of a belt emerging from an extruder with a slot die.
It is known to use continuously produced, endless strip material of various profiles, such as wires, strands, cables, ropes and the like. a., to be wrapped with the aid of a coating tool in an injection molding process, the tape being pulled through an extrusion device and coated with flowable plastic material using an injection head.
Such devices cannot be used, however, when it is a question of sheathing rotating bodies of large diameter, such as underground or above-ground pipelines which are to be protected against corrosion on the outside.
It is known to encase such pipes or containers with self-adhesive thin plastic sheeting or another corrosion-protecting material, the coating of the rotating body being applied, for example, in the form of a tape or coil and being pressed against the outer wall of the body in question, for example with the help of pressure devices or with hand-operated tools.
This method has the disadvantage that, for example, when a pipe is being transported, the casing is damaged and, since it does not adhere firmly to the surface of the pipe, it can be torn and torn off. This means that the anti-corrosive coating can no longer fulfill its most urgent task.
The purpose of the invention is to eliminate the risk of destruction and detachment of anti-corrosion coatings made of plastic materials on rotating bodies such as pipes or containers.
The object was therefore to develop a method and a device that allows rotating bodies, for example pipes and containers, to be provided with a jacket, the quality of which can be subject to high requirements in terms of service life and corrosion protection, mechanical strength and good adhesion .
The object is achieved according to the invention in that the rotary body is guided on a device past the slot die of an extruder while rotating about its longitudinal axis and a strip of plastic material emerging from the slot die of the extruder is wound onto the rotation body.
It has proven to be advantageous that a thermoplastic material, preferably high-pressure polyethylene, is used as the plastic material. However, it is also possible to use thermosets for this purpose.
The device for carrying out the method consists of two support carriages whose distance from one another is fixed by a spacer, wheels attached to the support carriage, at least one of which is driven by a drive unit, and bearing rollers supported by carrier plates and bearing blocks for receiving the rotating body, of which at least one is driven by a drive unit.
It is also advantageous if the bearing rollers can be replaced and the distance between their axes can be changed. This makes it possible to wrap bodies of revolution of different diameters.
An appropriate band width and band thickness are selected according to the diameter and the intended use of the rotating body. Two-slot nozzles are therefore used, the width of which is preferably 200 to 1000 mm. The thickness of the strip to be discharged can be adjusted using a movable lip on the slot die. It is advisable to equip the two support carriages with wheels that enable locomotion on rails, since rails generally allow good parallel guidance. Where there is no track, a smooth and level surface must be provided on which, for example, rubber-tyred wheels can be used.
The drives for moving the device and for rotating the rotating body are expediently carried out by means of electric motors and gears.
The speed of rotation and the speed of movement must be matched to the exit speed of the plastic material.
The rotating body is mounted on preferably 4 bearing rollers which are designed so that the rotating body cannot move axially. The bearing rollers are connected to the support carriages by means of bearing blocks and suitable devices that allow the mutual center distance of two bearing rollers to be changed, for example carrier plates.
For very long bodies of revolution, one or more additional supports are advisable. As a result of the shrinkage of the plastic, expediently thermoplastic material after cooling, a dense coating that adheres extremely firmly to the material of the rotating body is created. The method is suitable for sheathing rotating bodies made of metallic, but also other materials, such as concrete.
An advantageous device for carrying out the method is explained with reference to the drawings.
Fig. 1 shows a plan view of the entire device and the arrangement of the slot die of the extruder at right angles to the rotating body.
Fig. 2 shows the front view of the device and a section through the slot nozzle.
From Fig. 1 it can be seen that a rotary body, here a metal tube 1, lies on bearing rollers 2, 3, 4, 5.
These bearing rollers are connected to the carrier plates 10 and 11 by bearing blocks 6, 7, 8 and 9. The drive unit 12 of the pipe is located on the support plate 10, and the drive unit 14 of the device is located on the support carriage 13. The support plate 10 lies on the support carriage 15 with the wheels 16, 17, 18 and 19, the support plate 11 on the support carriage 13 with the wheels 20, 21, 22 and 23. The two support carriages 13 and 15 can be spaced by a Fix spacers 24 so that rotating bodies of different lengths can be brought onto the support device. The end position is carried out by bolts 25 and safety pins 26 (see Fig. 2).
The bearing blocks 7 and 9 of the bearing rollers 3 and 5 are adjustable in direction b for the application of bodies of revolution of different diameters.
The device is moved on the rails 27.
In FIG. 2, a slot nozzle 28 consisting of a fixed lip 29, a movable lip 30 and the heating elements 31 is arranged above the pipe 1. The plasticized band 32, for example a high-pressure polyethylene layer, is brought from the nozzle gap onto the metal pipe 1 to be sheathed with the rotation of the drive roller 2 and translation of the device under the drive of the wheel 22.
The procedure is described using an example. After a pretreatment of the outer wall of the metal pipe 1 to be sheathed with the aid of a
Sandblasting blower or by brushing (both can also be omitted) the metal tube 1 is placed on the bearings rolls 2, 3, 4 and 5. At the beginning of the wrapping process, the device is aligned so that the slot nozzle 28 is level with one of the two
Ends of the metal pipe 1 is located. The outlet opening of the slot nozzle is arranged slightly above the upper edge of the metal pipe 1 and faces the metal pipe
1 a distance of about one pipe diameter.
The metal pipe 1 is in
Rotation offset. With a gas burner it will
Metal pipe 1 to a temperature of about 125 to
Preheated to 1500 C. The thermoplastic tape 32 is pressed out of the slot die 28 at a temperature of 200 to 3000 C and brought onto the metal tube 1, which rotates at a speed that is dependent on the exit speed. After a full
Rotation the drive unit 14 is switched on and as a result of the advance of the device,
Metal pipe 1 with a small overlap, the width of which depends on the diameter of the metal pipe 1, encased. After complete sheathing, whoever turned off the extruder and the drive units 12 and 14 and lifted the metal tube from the device by means of suitable lifting equipment.
The coated metal pipe is then left to cool.
The process can be repeated as often as desired, but without prior heating, so that the coating ultimately consists of several layers.
