Le dessin représente, à titre d'exemple, une forme d'exécution de la présente invention et des variantes. La fig. 1 en est une vue en coupe partielle, à travers le balancier et le dispositif d'avancement du rouage de la montre ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Contact device for an electric watch The main patent relates to a contact device for an electric watch with a balance-spring regulating member, comprising contact means arranged on the axis of the balance having an isolated part and a conductive part, as well as an escape gear driven by means of the axis of the balance wheel by said contact means,
these engaging in the exhaust train in such a way that the latter performs a continuous unidirectional rotation when the balance wheel oscillates and periodic contact is established between said exhaust train and said contact means, the extreme circumference described by the insulating part of the contact means engaging in the escape gear having a radius relative to the axis of the balance greater than that of the extreme circumference described by the conductive part of said contact means s' engaging in the same exhaust cog.
Several contact devices for electric watches with a balance-spring regulator are already known. The contact means placed on the balance, which have an isolated part and a conductive part, drive the escape gear so that said gear performs a continuous unidirectional rotation when the balance oscillates and periodic contact is established between said gear and the contact means carried by the rocker. In one device, the escape wheel is partly made of magnetic material; in another, the contact device is mounted on a pendulum.
In some devices, the extreme circumference described by the insulating part of the contact means carried respectively by the pendulum or the balance has a radius which, with respect to their axis of oscillation, is greater than that of the extreme circumference described by the conductive part of said contact means.
A device is also known comprising a finger carried by the balance and cooperating with a contact blade which has a conductive face and an insulated face. This finger is fixed to an insulating ferrule mounted on the balance shaft and is connected to the coils carried by the balance.
There is also known an escape gear driven in rotation by a conductive pin placed on the balance; this exhaust gear has two toothed wheels.
One of the main unresolved problems in the executions known hitherto consists of limiting as much as possible the friction occurring between the engaged parts and of keeping it constant, these conditions having to be fulfilled, even in the event of an impact, in order to avoid an irregular movement of the said parts. parts engaged, the consequence of which would be imprecision in the operation of the watch.
The reduction in the dimensions of the watch, in particular the production of thin electric watches, excludes several solutions leading to devices that are too bulky or do not meet, at dimensions equal to that of the device which is the subject of the present invention, the essential conditions for regularity and consistency. solidity.
The contact device according to the present invention is characterized by the fact that said contact means are mounted on a plate fixed to the axis of the balance and comprise an insulating semi-cylindrical peg and a conductive part isolated from the axis of the balance, to which the flat face of the pin is fixed, and that the escape gear is formed by a part of magnetic material and a part of non-magnetic material.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the present invention and variants. Fig. 1 is a view in partial section, through the balance and the device for advancing the watch wheel;
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
figs. 2, 3, 4, schematic views of the operation of said device; figs. 5 and 6 variants of the form of said device and FIG. 7 a partial view of the contact wheel. In fig. 1 shows a plate 10 in which pivots a balance axis 12, the axis 12 pivoting on the other hand in a cock not shown.
The balance axle 12 carries a balance not shown on which is mounted a coil as described in Swiss patent N 328503. The balance axle also carries a plate 14. In this plate is driven a semi-cylindrical pin. insulating 16, in ruby for example, this peg 16, as shown in the drawing, extending below the lower surface of the plate 14.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, we see contact means, comprising on the one hand the semi-cylindrical pin 16 driven into the plate 14 and, on the other hand a contact part formed of a semi-cylindrical contact 18 depending on d 'a plate 20. This plate 20 is fixed under the plate 14 by means of a suitable insulating glue, and comprises an opening allowing the pin 16 to pass. The latter is supported by its flat face against the flat face of the contact 18, the two said flat faces being able to be joined by a suitable adhesive.
For reasons given below, the diameter of the insulating plug is preferably larger than that of the contact. A conductor 24, connected by one of its ends to the coil, passes through a tube 25, carried by the plate 14. The electrical connection between this conductor and the plate 20 of the contact part can, for example, s 'carried out by means of a weld 22, preferably under said plate.
Referring to fig. 1 it can be seen that the plate 10 and the bridge 30 carry bearings 32 and 34 in which an assembly 36 can pivot. This assembly consists of a cog drive pinion 38, carried by an axis 40 and a contact hub 42. The shaft 40 comprises, at its lower part, a grooved enlargement 44, fitting into a housing 46, formed in the hub 42. The groove 44 is intended to increase the adhesion surface of the shaft with a resin-based glue holding it in the housing 46.
The hub 42 comprises a pivot 45 resting on a contact pad 47 composed, preferably, of a precious or semi-precious alloy. The contact member formed by the pad 47 with a spring 49, mounted isolated from the plate, comprises an electrical conductor (not shown) joining it to a pole of the battery.
The hub 42 carries an exhaust gear 50, comprising an upper toothed wheel 52 made of alloy and a lower toothed wheel 54, integral with one another. The wheel 54 is made of magnetic material and has a smaller diameter than that of the wheel 52. These wheels are arranged so that their teeth are offset in relation to each other, as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4. The teeth of the magnetic wheel 54 are arranged in a star shape, they are symmetrical with respect to their respective radius. On the other hand, the teeth of the conductive wheel 52 are asymmetrical, as shown in fi-. 7.
It can be seen from this figure that the teeth of wheel 52 have conclave conducting flanks 60, forming an angle A with the radius passing through the conducting edge of the tooth. This angle A may preferably comprise approximately 130. The offset flank 62 of the tooth forms, with the radius passing through the conducting edge, a much larger angle B, the value of which preferably comprises approximately 27 . The importance of the shape of the teeth described above will be seen later. As can be seen, on the other hand, the ends of said teeth are rounded at 61.
The teeth of the conductive wheel 52 encroach on the range of movement of the pin 16 and of the contact 18 forming the contact means of the axis of the balance 12, unlike those of the lower magnetic wheel 54, which remain set back. this domain.
Two small magnets 56 and 57 are driven into the plate 10 under the gear 50 and magnetically attract the wheel 54 so that the pivot 45 is always in electrical contact with the stud 47 carried by the spring 49. These magnets are also used for perform certain other functions, as will be indicated below. Although the arrangement of two magnets is preferable, one of the two alone may be sufficient to achieve the operation.
In an electric watch of the type shown in patent 404558, the problem consists in supplying an electromotive pulse to the coil of the axis of the balance during the short time when the balance and its axis oscillate in one direction. During the oscillation in the opposite direction, we generally no longer want any contact, although we can make an electric watch receiving a pulse in each direction.
The contact means and the escape gear 50 are arranged to transform the oscillating movement of the balance into a unidirectional movement of the gear 50 and to energize the coil of the balance wheel for a limited period of time when the latter oscillates in one direction. only.
The operation is as follows: in fig. 2 the axis of the balance oscillates in the direction of the arrow A. The pin 16, the contact part 18, the gear 50 and the magnet 56 are shown on a large scale. The gear 50 is in its rest position and a tooth of the wheel 54 is directly above the magnet 56 and retained by magnetic attraction between said magnet and said magnetic tooth. On the opposite side of gear 50, the other magnet 57 similarly holds another tooth of magnetic wheel 54.
In fig. 2, when the axis of the balance and the plate 14 rotate in the direction of the arrow A, the semi-cylindrical face of the contact 18 is engaged with the rounded tip 61 of a tooth 58. An electrical contact is made with the 'one of the outputs of the coil carried by the balance as follows: from the battery not shown, by the conductive spring 49, the contact pad 47, the pivot 45, the hub 42, the conductive wheel 52, the part of contact 18 and its plate 20, the conductive wire 24 to the coil.
The other end of the coil is connected to the watch cage via the spiral spring, so that the only movable contacts are the wheel 52 and the contact part 18.
During the rotation of the axis of the balance 12 and of the plate 14 in the direction of the arrow A, the contact part 18 pushes the wheel 52 against the magnetic force exerted by the magnets 56 and 57 until the cog is brought into the position shown in FIG. 3.
This figure shows the position corresponding to the end of the contact period, at which point the continuation of the movement of the balance axis and of the plate in the direction of arrow A interrupts the contact between tooth 58 and the semi -cylindrical contact 18.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
It should be noted that in the position shown in FIG. 3, tooth 65 of magnetic wheel 54 is closer to the axis of magnet 56 than to tooth 64. This is why the attraction exerted by the magnet on tooth 65 is greater than that exerted. on tooth 64, the magnet thus driving gear 50 in the direction of arrow B until tooth 65 is centered on said magnet, as in FIG. 2.
The clearance of the other magnet 57 with the opposing teeth of the wheel 54 is similar.
Until then, the gear 50 -has made a rotation of one tooth, while the contact established with the coil provided just this movement. Fig. 4 shows the return movement of the axis of the balance and of the plate 14. In this movement, contrary to the direction of arrow A in FIGS. 2 and 3, the pin 16 completely avoids the tooth 58 and comes to rest on the face 62 of a tooth occupying the position corresponding to that which the tooth 58 had in FIG. 2, moving this tooth back a small portion of the way counterclockwise.
The total return movement effected by the gear train 50, during its engagement with the pin, is indicated by the arrow D in FIG. 4 and is less than the total forward movement effected by said train, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. While in the forward movement the angular displacement of the wheel 54 integral with the gear train 50 was sufficient to subject a tooth 64 of this wheel 54 to the attractive field of the magnet 56, in the return movement the angular displacement is insufficient, so that when the pin leaves the tooth on its return, the latter simply returns to its rest position above the magnet. The resulting movement imparted by the balance to the escapement train is therefore unidirectional.
We see in fig. 2, that when, by the contact established between the contact portion 18 and the tooth 58 of the wheel 52, the coil is energized, the portion of the engaged contact surfaces is clearly delimited. During the movement of the contact part 18 in the direction of arrow A, the contact surfaces are subjected to a rolling and sliding effect, the latter being limited. Thus the wear due to friction is reduced and its value substantially constant over the life of the watch. The arrangement described has been found to be more favorable than that proposed in said patent No. 404558, where an anchor making electrical contact with the face 62 of the tooth slipped as it moved there, and caused varying wear. tooth to tooth.
Although the arrangement of concave teeth, the edges of which are asymmetrical with respect to the radius passing through the tip of the tooth, is particularly favorable, it is also possible to use radially extending conductive edge teeth.
It can be seen on the other hand in FIGS. 2 to 4 that the diameter of the insulating pin is larger than that of the contact part 18, so that the radial end of the pin is at a greater distance from the axis of the balance than the radial end of the contact part. This measure prevents accidental contact from being established when the balance returns or when the watch is impacted.
Figs. 1 to 4 show an advantageous embodiment of the contact part 18. However, other embodiments of this part are also possible. In fig. 5, the contact portion is formed of a thin blade 70 having a slanted face 72 and a planar face 74 perpendicular to the blade. In fig. 6, the contact part is formed by a flat rod 76, on which the pin 16. The operation of these various embodiments of the contact part is similar to that of the semi-cylindrical contact described.
The device described therefore makes it possible both to ensure the advance of the gear train of an electric watch, from the oscillation of the balance, and to provide the coil with the necessary pulses. Compared with known executions, the number of parts used is reduced, which offers the advantage of making it possible to produce a thinner watch movement. Further, the adjustment of the known spring contact is eliminated, while the quality of the contact is improved.
The type of contact according to the present invention on the other hand makes the watch self-starting, because a very slight movement exerted on it can cause the contact part 18 to engage with a tooth of the wheel 52, which causes the watch to function. When, subsequently, it is subjected to other external movements, these no longer have any influence on the mechanism of transmission of kinetic energy.
The shape of the teeth reduces the resistance due to friction and stabilizes this resistance.
Other variants of the invention are obvious to those skilled in the art. One can, for example, replace the exhaust train consisting of two wheels by a single magnetic wheel plated or covered with a high conductivity alloy. Or, instead of isolating the contact part of the plate supporting the insulating pin, it is possible, for example, to use an insulating plate itself.
