DISPOSITIF D'ENTRAINEMENT DU ROUAGE D'UNE
PIECE D'HORLOGERIE
DEVICE FOR DRIVING THE GEAR OF A
WATCHMAKING PIECE
The subject of the present invention is a device for driving the train of a timepiece, comprising a bistable electrodynamic tilting relay connected to a source of electric voltage pulses delivered at constant frequency and intended to cooperate alternately, by means of one or the other of two stop fingers arranged on either side of its tipping point, with a toothed wheel subjected to a torque of determined direction and constituting the first mobile of said gear train, the whole so that 'at each pulse, there occurs a switching of the relay and the advancement of a half-step of the toothed wheel under the action of said torque.
In a known drive device of this type, said torque is transmitted, by friction, from an electric motor to said toothed wheel.
Such a torque transmission system leads to unacceptable mechanical losses in cases where the available power is limited, in particular in the case of an electric watch whose energy source consists of a battery.
In another known device, the first moving part of the train consists of a disc driven by a torque produced by a rotating field obtained by phase-shifted eddy currents, induced in this disc following its passage through the air gap of two electro -magnets supplied by phase-shifted alternating voltages. Such induction drive in the air gap of the electromagnets, however, hardly lends itself to watches whose energy source is a battery, given the fact that the induction necessary to produce the drive torque would require too high consumption. .
The object of the present invention is to provide a drive device with a small footprint and with low energy consumption, in particular in order to allow its use in an electric wristwatch.
The centering device according to the invention is characterized in that the said torque is produced by eddy currents induced in this toothed wheel by means of at least one pair of magnetic poles carried by a disc rotating in a substantially parallel plane to that of the wheel, at a determined distance from it.
The drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the subject of the invention, a variant and two explanatory diagrams.
Fig. 1 shows a plan view of this embodiment of the device.
Fig. 2 is a section along II-II of FIG. 1.
Figs. 5 and 5 show two explanatory diagrams.
Fig. 4 shows a variant of part of the device.
The device comprises an electrodynamic tilting relay, the movable part of which is constituted by a plate 1 secured to an axis 2 pivoting in a plate, not shown. On the plate 1 are fixed four permanent magnets 3 to 6 and arranged so as to form two pairs of poles, respectively 3, 4 and 5, 6 one on each side of the axis 2, these magnets being oriented along the latter. The fixed part of the relay consists of a coil 7, in the form of an elongated wafer, arranged coaxially and parallel to the plate 1 so as to be able to cooperate with the magnets 3 to 6.
A stop 8, made of magnetic material of low coercive force, limits, in both directions, the rotation of the mobile part of the relay and maintains it by magnetic attraction, in one or the other of these two extreme positions when 'it is brought there by the electrodynamic effect.
On the side opposite to that cooperating with the stop 8, the plate 1 carries two fingers 9 and 10 arranged on either side of the axis 2 and intended to cooperate alternately with a toothed wheel 11 integral with an axis 12 and constituting the first moving part of the train, not shown, of a watch. This wheel 11 is made of electrically conductive material.
A disc 13 rotating on an axis 14 parallel to the axis 12 of the toothed wheel 11 is disposed at such a distance from the axis 12, so that part of the wheel 11 and part of the disc 13 are superimposed at a certain distance from each other. The disc 13 carries, embedded in its periphery, four permanent magnets 15 to 18 oriented along the axis 14 and arranged so as to form two pairs of poles, respectively 15, 16 and 17, 18, located one opposite the 'other, on either side of axis 14, the north pole of a pair being opposite the south pole of the other pair and vice versa.
The distance separating the two magnets of the same pair and the pole surface of these magnets are arranged so that they each simultaneously cover one branch of a coil 19, in the form of an elongated wafer, arranged coaxially and parallel to the disc 13 so as to be able to cooperate with the magnets 15 to 18. The end 19a of the coil 19 is connected to the collector of a transistor T1, of the pnp type, the emitter of which is connected to the positive pole of a DC voltage source S, the other end 19b of the coil being connected to a contact 20 making it possible to connect it to the negative pole of the source S.
The base of the transistor T1 is connected to the collector of a transistor T2, of the npn type, therefore complementary to the transistor T1 and whose emitter is connected to the negative pole of the source S.
The base of transistor T2 is connected, on the one hand, to the collector of the transistor
T1, via a resistor R1 and a capacitor C, and, on the other hand, at the positive pole of the source S, via the resistor R1 and a second resistor R2.
The device described operates in the following manner
Closing the contact 20 energizes the capacitor C, via the coil 19 and the resistor R2, which charges with a relatively low current, which increases the potential difference between the base and the emitter of transistor T2 and consequently the increase of its collector current, therefore of the base current of transistor T1 and its collector current.
The increase in the voltage drop in the coil 19, due to the increase in this latter current, causes a further increase in the base and collector currents of the transistors T2 and T1 and so on until the multivibrator circuit as table formed by the coil 19 and the complementary transistors T1 and T2 switches, thanks to this reaction coupling, in the conduction state. The coil 19 then being crossed by the current from the source S, the interaction of the latter and of the magnets carried by the disc 13, gives rise to a Laplace force which rotates the disc 13, that is to say say that which starts the rotor of the DC motor constituted by the coil 19 and by the disc 13 with its magnets 15 to 18.
The current pulse in the coil 19 is interrupted by the tilting of the astable circuit in its blocked state. This is due to the reaction coupling caused by the decrease in the potential difference between the base and the emitter of transistor T2, due to the discharge of capacitor C through transistor T1, resistor R1 and the emitter diode of transistor T2 . However, once the rotor is started, the tilting of the astable multivibrator circuit from one to the other of its two states is effected by means of the voltage induced in the coil 19, which allows the repetition of the current pulses in the coil and consequently the drive of the rotor.
Indeed, when the voltage induced in the coil is such that it results in an increase in the potential difference between the base and the emitter of transistor T2, there is a tilting of the circuit in its conduction state. When the induced voltage is such that a reduction in this potential difference results, a circuit tilting occurs in its blocked state.
It therefore follows that the induced voltage synchronizes the oscillation frequency of the astable circuit with its own frequency, which is essential for driving the motor.
The wheel 11 being made of electrically conductive material, eddy currents are induced there by the variations of the magnetic flux due to the passage of the magnets 15 to 18. The interaction of these eddy currents and the magnets also gives rise to to a Laplace force which tends to drive the wheel 11. Assuming that the direction of rotation of the disc 13 is that indicated by the arrow 21, the wheel 11 is then subjected to a torque constantly tending to make it rotate in the direction indicated by arrow 22. The wheel will not rotate because it is locked by pressing its tooth 11a against the stop finger 10 of the bistable electrodynamic relay.
Suppose now that the coil 7 of the relay is connected to a source delivering pulses of electrical voltage at constant frequency, for example to a source delivering bidirectional pulses of rectangular voltage 27 at a frequency proportional to that of the regulating member of the room. of watchmaking whose device described must drive the cog. One of the first two pulses will therefore be the one which will cause the relay to switch to its other stable position than that shown in the drawing, thanks to Laplace's force resulting from the interaction of the current passing through the coil 7 and the magnets 3 to 6 carried by plate 1.
The tilting of the relay will therefore translate into displacement of its movable part from one position to another, in this case in pivoting of the plate 1 around the axis 2, in the opposite direction to that of the hands of a shows, Until it is stopped by the stop 8.
This will result in the release of the finger 10 from the toothing of the wheel 11 and the engagement in the latter of the finger 9, which will allow the wheel 11 to advance by half a step in the direction of the arrow 22, under the action of said couple. Indeed, as soon as the finger 10 releases the tooth l nothing will oppose the movement of the wheel until the tooth llb abuts against the finger 9 which has meanwhile engaged in the toothing (shown partially in dotted line at Fig. 1). The pitch of the wheel 11, the distance between the fingers 9 and 10 and the oscillating movement of the wafer 1 are provided so that the advancement of the wheel 11, at each tilting of the relay, is half a step.
During the next relay changeover, which will be due to the next pulse of opposite sign and after which the relay will resume the position shown in the drawing, the wheel will again advance by half a step and so on: each pulse sent in the coil 7 there will be a tilting of the relay and an advancement of the wheel 11 by half a step. The latter, which constitutes the first mobile in the train of a timepiece, will therefore be driven in an intermittent movement whose frequency is constant and equal to the frequency of the pulses itself proportional to that of the regulating body (timepiece ).
The device described above was produced with a toothed wheel 11 having a diameter of 7 min and a thickness of 0.1 mm. This very thin wheel being made of aluminum, its weight and therefore its moment of inertia are extremely low. Its diameter is large enough to give the torque required for its training. The disc 13 has, in this embodiment, a diameter of 6 mm and it is thus seen that this device has such a bulk that it can be arranged without other in a normal case of a wristwatch. In addition, tests have shown that the consumption of this device is of the order of 15 to 20 / uW, which allows the use of a small battery, which can be accommodated in a wristwatch.
As can be seen from the above, the device requires only very low power. This is due to the design of the drive and locking mechanisms and their separation. The tilting electrodynamic relay, which fulfills the role of locking mechanism and which takes up very little space, requires only the power necessary to make it switch from one to the other of its stable states, that is to say the power necessary to overcome the magnetic attraction of the stop 8 and the friction. This power is very low while ensuring an amply sufficient torque due to the implementation of the Laplace forces which remain practically constant over the entire path of the mobile part of the relay, a path which can also be very reduced.
The very small footprint of the relay also makes it insensitive to external disturbances that a worn watch may suffer.
As for the direct current motor formed by the disc 13 and the coil 19, it suffices that its rotor, which the disc 13 forms, rotate without stopping, its speed of rotation possibly being arbitrary and variable.
This greatly simplifies its construction and makes it possible to choose a regime at high speed and efficiency and therefore to store sufficient energy while keeping a small footprint.
In the device described in example, the torque to which the wheel 11 constituting the first moving part of the train is subjected, is provided by the interaction of the eddy currents induced in the wheel by two pairs of magnetic blades carried by a disc forming the rotor. of a DC motor. Thanks to the arrangement of the magnets 15 to 18, the rotor 13 will always rotate in the direction indicated by the arrow 21, that is to say in the direction of rotation necessary to obtain that the resulting torque acts on the wheel 11 in the direction indicated by arrow 22.
Even if the rotor started in the opposite direction to that of arrow 21, the direction of start depending on the relative position of the magnets 15 to 18 and of the coil 19, it could not continue to turn because of the shape of the induced voltage in the coil 19, during each passage of the magnets 15 to 18 opposite it.
In fact, the induced voltage n will have the form necessary to synchronize the oscillations of the astable multivibrator circuit with its own frequency only when the rotor 13 turns in the direction of the arrow 21. It is only in this case that the positive alternation of the induced voltage, capable in this case of switching the circuit into its conduction state, will have a sufficient amplitude as shown in fig. 3 (twice as large as that of negative alternation).
The device could, as a variant, comprise only one of the two pairs of poles, respectively 15, 16 and 17, 18. The shape of the induced voltage would then be the same (fig. 3) but its amplitude would be half.
Safety with regard to driving the rotor 13 in the desired direction can be further increased by a different dimensioning of two magnets forming a pair of polo shirts. When one of the two magnets is dimensioned so that its pole surface can simultaneously cover the two branches of the coil 19, the amplitude of one of the alternations of the voltage induced in the coil is four times greater than that of the other alternation. Thus, by dimensioning the magnets 16 and 17 as shown in FIG. 4, when the rotor 13 rotates along arrow 21, an induced voltage is obtained having the form shown in FIG. 5.
The source of voltage pulses to which the coil 7 of the electrodynamic relay must be connected, could also be a source of unidirectional pulses. In this case, the coil 7 should be replaced by two opposing coils each connected to the pulse source and cooperating with one of the two pairs of poles 3 and 4, respectively 5 and 6. It goes without saying that the part fixed relay could be constituted by magnets and the movable part by the coil or coils which would be fixed on the plate 1.
