<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Clockwork movement comprising a driving balance whose oscillations are electrically maintained The present invention relates to a clockwork movement comprising a driving balance whose oscillations are electrically maintained and a latching device transforming the reciprocating movement of the balance into a movement unidirectional transmitted by a counter gear train to the hands of said movement.
This clockwork movement is characterized in that its frame, constituting a stepped construction, comprises, in addition to the mainplate and the cock, a lower gear bridge and an upper gear bridge, the balance being pivoted in the lower gear bridge and in the. cock, while the elements of the ratchet device are pivoted in the lower gear bridge and in the upper gear bridge, all in such a way as to allow the use of a large balance in a movement of relatively small diameter .
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of this embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a section through A-B-C-D-E-F of FIG. 1. The movement shown in the drawing, belonging for example to a clock, is of the type comprising a motor balance whose oscillations are electrically maintained and a locking device transforming the reciprocating movement of the balance into a unidirectional movement transmitted by a counter. to the hands of said movement.
The frame of the movement, constituting a stepped construction, comprises, in addition to the plate 1 and the cock 2, a lower gear bridge 3 and an upper gear bridge 4; the lower bridge 3 is arranged above the plate 1, while the upper bridge 4 is located between the lower bridge 3 and the cock 2. Each of the bridges 2, 3 and 4 is fixed independently on the plate 1, by means of pillars and screws, in order to obtain maximum precision.
The balance 5, carrying frames 6, is pivoted with its axis 7 in the lower gear bridge 3 and in the cock 2. A racket 8 mounted with greasy friction on a drop of the cock 2 makes it possible to adjust the active length of the balance spring 9 fixed by its inner end to the balance axis 7. The armatures 6 are the movable armatures of the maintenance electromagnet. The latter, foreign to the invention, is for example of the type shown in Swiss Patent No. 324757 and will therefore not be described in detail.
Let's just say that the elements
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
connection 10 of the circuit of its stator are obtained by the technique of printed circuits and that this stator comprises two coils 31 intended to create the sustaining field, coils of which the ends of the coil are fixed to parts 11 carried by the body of each coil and connected directly to said connection elements 10. The pole pieces 12 of the stator, held inside the bodies of the coils 31, cooperate with the movable armatures 6 to maintain the oscillating movement of the balance.
A battery (not shown), arranged in the free space shown at the top of FIG. 1, provides the energy necessary for the running of the movement.
Moreover, the movement described comprises, in addition to the plate 1, called mechanical plate, an electric plate 13 carrying the electrical elements of the movement blurry, as described in Swiss patent N 329 815. The movement therefore comprises two completely independent blocks the one of the other, the first being constituted by the purely mechanical part of the movement, while the second comprises all the electrical elements of the movement, but only these, the whole being arranged so that the movement starts walk as soon as the two blocks are assembled and the power source in place.
Since the particular arrangements of the electrical part of the movement, in particular the contact device ensuring the maintenance of the oscillations of the balance, being foreign to the invention, they will not be described here.
As seen in fig. 1, the balance 5 is pivoted at A, this point being located very close to the center of the movement. The arrangement of the caliber, with its stepped construction, is designed in such a way that a balance 5 of large dimensions relative to the diameter of the movement can be used, which ensures great precision of adjustment.
The aforementioned ratchet device comprises a ratchet anchor 14 and a ratchet wheel 15, both of which pivot in the lower gear bridge 3 and in the upper gear bridge 4. When the balance wheel 5 swings, the anchor 14 also oscillates and its lifts, acting alternately on the teeth of the ratchet wheel 15, rotate the latter always in the same direction.
The ratchet wheel 15 is integral with a pinion 16 meshing with a second wheel 17 pivoted in the plate 1 and in the upper gear bridge 4. The axis of the second wheel 17, carrying the long pinion 18, passes through an opening 19 (or, according to a variant, a recess) of the lower gear bridge 3. The pinion 18 is in turn engaged with a middle wheel 20 pivoted in the plate 1 and in the lower gear bridge 3. This medium wheel 20 meshes with a second pinion at the center 21 having the same diameter and the same number of teeth as the pinion 18. The axis 30 of the second pinion at the center 21, housed in a tube 22 driven into the plate 1, is pivoted in this tube 22 and in the lower gear bridge 3; it carries at its free end a central second hand, not shown.
The middle wheel 20 is integral with a pinion 23 which is housed in a recess of the plate 1 and meshes with a minute wheel 24 fitted with heavy friction on the carriageway 25, the latter in its turn being mounted madly on the carriageway. tube 22. The gun of the roadway carries, as usual, the minute hand (not shown). A usual timer wheel 26, meshing with the roadway 25, carries a pinion 27 which is in mesh with the hour wheel 28; the wheel 28 is mounted idle on the roadway 25 and carries the hour hand, also not shown. A plate 29 holds the timer mobile 26, 27 in place.
The production of the mechanical part of the clockwork movement described makes it possible, without any change in production, to complete these parts with a central second, small second or without a second. In the execution with small seconds, it is the pivot on the platinum side of the seconds wheel 17 which will simply be extended in order to receive the second hand. We have shown dotted lines on the fi-. 2 such an extension.

If you do not want a second in the center, it suffices to remove the pinion 21 with its axis 30.
