Method and device for producing bottle-like containers made of plastic
The invention relates to a method and a device for producing containers with a narrowed opening cross-section from thermoplastic material supplied as a film, according to which a film part plasticized by heat is pre-stretched in a funnel shape by means of a stretching die and then narrowed against the jacket of the stretching die.
According to a known method of this type, the funnel-shaped pre-stretched film is pressed with the aid of compressed air against the jacket of the stretching die serving as the mold core. During this process, the stretching die jacket, which consists of its rubber hose, is inflated in a barrel shape by compressed air. When the deformed film has solidified by cooling, the excess pressure is removed from the mold core and this is pulled out of the finished container.
Since a relatively large area of the plate-shaped starting material is deep-drawn according to this method, bottles with a great depth and, in proportion to this, a small opening cross-section can be produced; The disadvantage here, however, is that the shape and the volume of the bottles produced change continuously depending on the practically unavoidable fluctuations in the pressures applied.
Furthermore, it is not possible to shape the bottle head with a precise fit for attaching a closure.
These disadvantages are avoided if the pre-stretched film is inflated into a rigid, divisible hollow shape. The disadvantage of this method, however, is that only bottles with an opening that is relatively wide in relation to the depth can be produced.
The object of the invention is to create a method for producing containers with a narrow opening width and a relatively great depth and a precisely tolerated shape from flat foils.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that after the pre-stretching of the film against the jacket of the stretching die, a hollow shape with a narrow neck cross-section is closed around the preformed film part and this is then inflated against the inner wall of the hollow shape.
According to the method according to the invention, containers such as bottles can be produced very economically with little consumption of material. In addition, due to the narrowing of the mouth, the wall is thicker in this area than in the area of the belly, so that the bottle, which has a low weight in the area of its belly due to its uniformly thin wall, is used to tightly fasten a closure part, for example a snap or screw cap, offers good strength and dimensional stability.
A device for carrying out the method according to the invention is characterized in that the stretching ram, which is hollow for supplying pressure medium and is provided with outlet openings and connected to a pressure medium source via a valve, is also connected to a vacuum source.
In an advantageous embodiment of the device according to the invention, the neck cross-section of the hollow shape surrounding the stretching die is slightly larger than the cross-section of the stretching die including the thickness of the wall of the finished container at this point.
In a further embodiment of the device according to the invention, a heated frame composed of several parts is arranged to narrow the film around the stretching die, the parts of which can be moved towards the stretching die.
The method and the device according to the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to a drawing. Show it:
1 shows a simplified representation of an apparatus for producing bottles,
FIGS. 2 to 5 show the deformation device of the device according to FIG. 1 in different process stages on a larger scale compared to FIG. 1,
6 and 7 a device for narrowing the opening cross section of a funnel-shaped drawn film in plan view in two different positions and
8 and 9 a further constriction device in plan view in two different positions.
A feed station 1, a heating station 2, a forming station 3 and further processing stations are arranged one behind the other at the same spacing on a conveying device 10 which is incremented. At a distance between the stations, the conveyor device has support plates 12 provided with an opening 11, to which a film section a is transferred in each case in the feed station 1. The film section a is pulled off and separated from a supply roll b made of thermoplastic film. In station 2, a heat radiator 13 is located above the conveyor device 10, which heats the film section a supplied by the support plates 12 to the deformation temperature while the conveyor device 10 is at a standstill.
Also above the conveyor 10 in the station 3 is a hold-down device 14 that can be raised and lowered against the support plates 12 and presses its edge onto the top of the support plate 12 during the deformation of a film section a. In the center of the hold-down device 14, a cylindrical stretching ram 15 is guided so that it can be raised and lowered, independently of the movement of the hold-down device 14.
Its diameter is less than half of the opening 11 of the support plates 12. A central blind hole 16 extends up to just before its lower end, into which radial holes 17 open in the lower part. A line 18 connects the blind bore 16 to a four-way valve 19, which connects the blind bore 16 alternately to the outside air 24, to a compressed gas or compressed air source 20 or to a vacuum source 21.
Below the conveyor 10 and the hold-down device 14 there is also a hollow form 22, 23 in station 3, which is divided transversely to the conveying direction 10 of the conveyor 10. The cavity of the hollow mold 22, 23 has the shape of a bottle with a neck and collar. The clear width of the neck, which lies in the upper part of the hollow mold, is slightly larger than the diameter of the cylindrical stretching punch 15 including the thickness of the wall of the finished bottle. The parts 22 and 23 of the hollow mold are at a distance from one another in the rest position. The molding station 3 is followed by further stations, not shown, for filling, closing, removing or otherwise treating the bottle.
The bottles are shaped in the following way:
As soon as a support plate 12 has brought a plasticized Fo lienabsclinitt a into the forming station 3, the hold-down device 14 lowers and braces the edge of the film section a with the support plate 12 (FIG. 2). The stretching die 15 is then moved downwards to just before the bottom of the open hollow mold 22, 23, so that its lower end face, resting on the center of the film section a, pulls this funnel-shaped through the opening 11 of the support plate 12 and deforms it (Fig. 3 ). The film material located within the clamping ring surface is stretched almost uniformly.
The valve 19 then connects the line 18, the bore 16 and the radial bores 17 in the stretching die 15 with the vacuum source 21, so that the funnel-shaped preformed film part is drawn against the cylindrical jacket on the circumference of the stretching die 15 by negative pressure (FIG. 4). The two hollow mold halves 22, 23 are then moved towards one another, the narrow neck part of which lies slightly against the film resting on the stretching die 15. By switching the valve 19 again, the effective negative pressure is switched off and instead compressed air is passed into the bores 16 and 17, so that the cylindrical deformed part is inflated and its wall rests against the inner wall of the hollow mold 22, 23 (FIG. 5).
After the wall has solidified by cooling, the hollow mold 22, 23 is opened again and the shaped bottle c, which is still connected to the waste slug at the collar, is transferred to the next processing station by a switching step of the conveyor device 10. Finally, the neck is also separated from the collar of the bottle.
In order to avoid premature solidification of the film, the hold-down device 14, the stretching die 15 and the support plate 12 are heated in a manner known per se.
In order to counteract the formation of longitudinal folds when the funnel-shaped drawn film is narrowed, it is useful to deep-draw the preform even further during this process. This avoids excessive compression of the film wall.
In many cases it is sufficient to narrow only the upper, large part of the funnel-shaped preform, the neck area of the subsequent container. Devices constructed on the principle of the iris diaphragm, as shown, for example, in FIGS. 6 to 9, are suitable for this purpose. The narrowing device according to FIGS. 6 and 7 has eight lamellae 25 in a common plane, each of which can be rotated about a fixed axis 26. At the outer ends upwardly projecting pins 27 protrude into radial slots 28 of a ring 29, so that when this ring 29 is rotated, the lamellae 25 are pivoted.
The constriction device is arranged at station 3 below the conveyor device 10 in such a way that the stretching die 15 also pulls the respective film section a through the widely opened iris diaphragm. The lamellae 25 are then pivoted in such a way that the opening of the diaphragm becomes smaller, the adjacent ring area of the preform being narrowed towards the stretching die 15.
To narrow the preform, a narrowing device arranged in the same way as mentioned above with four sliding lamellas 30 arranged like a frame can be used. The sliding lamellas 30 each lie in one plane, one narrow side against the inside of the other, so that when the lamellas are pulled apart there is a large opening (FIG. 8), which is opened by the radial-tangential displacement of the lamellas 30 in relation to the stretching die 15 reduced in the direction of arrow 31. At their front inner end, the sliding lamellas 30 have a foot 32 with an inwardly directed quarter of an arc. As a result, the aperture has a square cross-section with rounded ticks when the opening is large and a circular cross-section when the opening is small.
In addition, it is noted that further devices can be used to narrow the deformed part, in which radially displaceable segments form a ring or frame with a variable opening cross section. Also conceivable for the above purpose is a worm spring ring which is suspended multiple times on its circumference in the radial direction, the suspension points of which are pulled apart and moved together radially. Finally it is also possible to press the preform from the outside against the stretching die by means of a pressurized gas.
The parts of the constriction device are, as far as they come into contact with the warm, plastic film, heated depending on the heat requirement.
