Process for the optical brightening of textile fibers made of cellulose
The present invention relates to a method for the optical brightening of textile fibers made of cellulose, in particular cotton, and the textile material according to the invention brightened as an industrial product.
The method according to the invention for the optical brightening of textile fibers made of cellulose is characterized by the use of an optical suspension of the formula I,
EMI1.1
in that of Xi and X2, one X is hydrogen and the other
X means chlorine.
For lightening from an aqueous bath, the disulfonic acids of the formula I are used, in particular in the form of their saliva with monovalent cations, preferably as an alkali or ammonium salt
The new optical brighteners of the formula I are obtained by using the diazonium compound of
4-Amino-2 ', 4'- or -3', 4'-dichloro-stilbene-2 sulfonic acid with an aminonaphthalenesulfonic acid coupling in proximity to the amino group, which after
Coupling also contains a sulphonic acid group, couples and oxidizes the o-aminoazo dye obtained.
The compounds of the formula I give the cellulose material treated with them a pure white, full appearance. They surpass previously known optical brighteners of similar constitution in terms of their improved whiteness and their significantly higher resistance to active chlorine-releasing agents.
The compounds of the formula I are therefore particularly suitable for use in wash liquors which, in addition to detergent substances, contain agents that release chlorine. As chlorine releasing agents come here z. B. water-soluble salts of reverse acid, such as lithium, sodium or potassium hypochlorite, di and trichlorocyanurates, N-Chllordicarbons'äwreimide, such as
N-chloro-succinimide or -malonsÏureimid, or chlorohydantoine, such as 1, 3-di'chlor-5, 5-diamethylhydantoin in
Question. As active washing substances, such washing liquors contain, for example, lonoids, e.g. B.
Soaps, soluble salts of higher fatty alcohol sulfates, higher and / or poly-alkyl-substituted arylsulfonic acids, the sulfocarboxylic acid esters of medium to higher alkanols, higher A'l'kanayi-aminoalkyl- or -aminoarylcarbon- or -sudfonsäuren or the Fettsäureglyceriinsulfate, or nonionoid, like higher alkylphenolpolyglykolÏther.
In addition, the wash liquor can contain customary fillers or auxiliaries, e.g. B. inorganic salts, such as sodium sulfate, alkali poly- and -polymeta-phosphates, alkali silicates, alkali borates, also alkali salts of carb oxymethyl celuloses, foam stabilizers such as alkanol amides of higher fatty acids, or complexones, such as soluble salts of ethylenediamine tetra¯s.
In preferred wash liquors, the content of brightener of the formula I, depending on the number of washes and the liquor ratio of the wash liquor, is approximately 0.005 to 0.1%, based on the material to be cured (or 0.001 to 0.1%) 05 g / liter wash liquor), the amount of chlorine-releasing agent should preferably correspond to 0.1 to 0.8 g active chlorine / liter wash liquor.
As a result of the good resistance of the brightener of the formula I contained therein to active chlorine, such washing liquors can be kept relatively well even at higher temperatures. Therefore they are both at the milder temperatures, i.e. H. at 30-40 C, as well as at higher temperatures up to 80 C applicable.
It is known from the German patent number 942395 that 2- (2 '' ', 6' '' - dichloro-stil byl-4 ") - (naphtho-l ', 2': 4, 5) -1, 2, 3-triazole-2 ", 6 '-disulfonic acid is suitable for the optical brightening of cellulose, but the compounds of the formula I used according to the invention give a better brightening effect on cotton.
In the examples the temperatures are i! n degrees Celsius. Unless otherwise stated, parts mean parts by weight. Examples 1 and 2 explain the production of an optical brightener of the formula I, the other examples the process according to the invention.
example 1
34.4 g of 4-amino-3 ', 4'-dichloro-stilbene-2-sulfonic acid are dissolved neutral with sodium hydroxide solution in 800 ml of water. 7.0 g of sodium nitrite are added to this solution and the mixture is added dropwise to a solution of 12.8 g of hydrochloric acid in 100 ml of water at a temperature of 8-10'ion with thorough stirring. The whole is then stirred for a further 30 minutes at 8-10, then the excess nitrite is removed with a little sulfamic acid and the diazo suspension at a temperature of 2-5 to form a solution of 22.4 g of 2-aminonaphthalin-5-sulfonic acid , 4.1 g of sodium hydroxide and 25 g of crystallized sodium acetate in 600 ml of water were added within 1-2 hours.
After the coupling has ended, the amino azo dye is completely precipitated by adding 140 g of sodium chloride, filtered off and washed out with 10% strength sodium chloride solution. The moist dye is then dissolved in 1000 ml of aqueous 50% technical grade pyridine and then treated with a solution of 2.5 g of crystallized copper sulfate in 100 ml of water and 10 g of monoethanolamine.
The o-amino-azo dye is then oxidized to the naphthotriazole compound by introducing a vigorous stream of air at a temperature of 92-95. After the red color of the o-amino azo dye has disappeared, a little excess sodium sulfide is added to the solution, separated from the precipitated copper sulfide by a clarifying filtration and from the resulting solution, after adding 10 g of sodium hydrosulfite, at a pH of 10 -11 the pyridine is completely distilled off by means of steam. Then the crude product is completely salted out by adding 20% sodium chloride, cooled to room temperature, filtered off and washed out with saturated sodium chloride solution.
For further purification, the compound is recrystallized from aqueous, about 50-70% technical grade pyridine, then slurried with ethanol, stirred under reflux for a short time, cooled, filtered off and dried in vacuo at 120-125.
The disodium salt is obtained
2- (3 "", 4 "" - dichloro-stilbyl-4 ") - (naphtho-1 ', 2': 4, 5) 1, 2, 3-triazole-2", 5'-disulfonic acid as a yellowish, water-soluble powder with a temperature of over 300¯.
The compound obtained is a valuable lightening agent for lightening cellulose fibers.
Compounds with similar properties and sometimes slightly different nuances are obtained by replacing 2-aminonaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid in the above example with equal amounts of 2-aminonaphthalene-6- or -7-sulfonic acid or 1-aminonaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid; in this case you get the di Na'trium salary
2- (3 '' ', 4' '' - dichloro-stilbyl-4 '') - (naphtho-1 ', 2': 4, 5)
1, 2, 3-triazole-2 "- 6 'or -2", 7' or -2 ", 4'-disulfonic acid as a yellowish to slightly yellowish powder with a temperature of over 300.
Example 2
A solution of the sodium salt of 34.4 g of 4-amino2 ', 4'-dichlorostilbene-2-sulfonic acid and 7.0 g of sodium nitrite in 800 ml of water is poured into a solution at a temperature of 8-10 ° indirectly diazotized by 12.8 g of hydrochloric acid in 100 ml of water. The suspension of the diazo compound is then added at a temperature of 5-10 within 2-4 hours to a solution of 22.4 g of 2-aminonaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid in 1000 ml of aqueous, approximately 50% technical-grade pyridine. After the coupling reaction has ended, the whole thing is stirred for a short time, the reaction mixture is brought to a pH of 10-11 by adding aqueous sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride is added, separating into two layers.
The pyridinic layer containing the o-amino-azo dye is separated from the aqueous layer, the same volume of water and the solution of 2.5 g of crystallized copper sulfate in 100 ml of water and 10 g of monoethanolamine are added and the dye is then added as in the example 1 indicated, converted into the naphthotriazole compound with air.
This is followed by removal of the copper salt and purification of the crude product as described in Example 1.
The disodium salt of r is obtained
2- (2 '' ', 4' '' - dichloro-stilbyl-4 '') - (naphtho-1 ', 2': 4, 5)
1, 2, 3-triazole-2 ", 5'-disulfonic acid as a yellowish, water-soluble powder with a temperature of over 300¯.
The compound obtained is a valuable lightening agent for cellulose fibers.
Compounds with similar properties and sometimes slightly different hues are obtained if, in this example, the 2-aminonaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid is mixed with equal amounts of 2-aminonaphthalene-6-sulfonic acid or with 1-aminonaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid replaced; In this case the disodium salt is obtained
2- (2 '' ', 4' '' - dichloro-stilbyl-4 '') - (naphtho-1 ', 2': 4, 5)
1, 2, 3-triazole-2 ", 6'-disulfonic acid or der-2", 4'-disulfonic acid as a yellowish to slightly yellowish powder with a temperature of over 300¯.
Example 3
0.5 g of a freshly prepared bleaching salt mixture as described below, containing a mixture of 85% sodium tripolyphosphate and 15% sodium dichloroisocyanurate, and 0.001 g of the disodium salt
2- (3 '' ', 4' '' - dichloro-stilbyl-4 '') - (naphtho-1 ', 2': 4, 5) 1, 2, 3-triazole-2 '', 5'- Disulfonic acid according to Example 1, as an optical brightener, is poured over 100 ml of cold water in a washing machine and immediately afterwards poured into this bleaching pot with a cotton fabric weighing 3.3. The bath is then heated to a temperature of 60 and the cotton fabric is washed at 60 for 15 minutes.
When the washing is finished, the items are first rinsed with lukewarm, then with cold water and then dried on a frame. The wash gate treated in this way is markedly lighter than the untreated material. When compared with the iim SVF, Fachorgan für Textilveredelung? 19, (6), p. 480 (1964) results in a whiteness of 135.
Making the bleaching salt mixture:
0.2 g of the abovementioned brightener are ground with 83 g of sodium tripolyphosphate in a mixer and the resulting powder is stored with the exclusion of light at room temperature in a desiccation laboratory with 90% moisture until its weight is constant. About 3% water is absorbed in the process. The brightener-containing sodium tripolyphosphate conditioned in this way is now mixed well with sodium dichloroisocyanurate in a weight of 85:15.
Example 4
From 0.5 g of a freshly prepared bleaching salt mixture containing a mixture of 86.8% sodium tripolyphosphate and 13.2% sodium dichloroisocyanurate and 0.001 g disodium salt
2- (2 '' ', 4' '' - dichloro-stilbyl-4 '') - (naphto-1 ', 2': 4, 5)
1, 2, 3-triazole-2 ", 5'-disulfonic acid according to Example 2, as an optical brightener, a bleaching liquor is produced as described in Example 3. The washing liquor obtained in this way is used according to the instructions in Example 3 for washing cotton fabric , the washing process being carried out at a temperature of 60 und and for 20 minutes. The laundry treated in this way is markedly lighter in comparison to untreated material.
Example 5
From 0.5 g of a freshly prepared bleaching salt mixture containing a mixture of 86.8% of a detergent consisting of 15 parts of sodium tripolyphosphalt, 1.8 parts of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, 2.5 parts of sodium carbonate, 23.0 parts of sodium sulfate , and 13, 2% sodium dichloroisocyanurate and 0.001 g of the disodium salt of
2- (3 '' ', 4' '' - dichloro-stilbyl-4 '') - (naphtho-1 ', 2': 4, 5)
1, 2, 3-triazole-2 ", 5'-disulfonic acid according to Example 1, as an optical brightener, a wash liquor is prepared as described in Example 3. The washing liquor obtained in this way is now used in accordance with the information in Example 3 for washing cotton fabric, the washing process being carried out at a temperature of 60 and for 20 minutes.
The laundry treated in this way is markedly lighter than the untreated material.
Example 6
Comparative experiments were carried out to illustrate the technical progress obtained with the process according to the invention. The lightening effect of a stilbene compound according to German Patent No. 942 395 was compared with that of stilbene compounds according to the present invention on cotton.
The following optical brighteners were used:
EMI3.1
according to DBP No. 942 395
EMI3.2
according to formula I of PA I.
EMI3.3
according to formula I of PA I.
The application was carried out as follows:
3 g of an untreated cotton fabric are treated in 100 ml of a liquor of the following composition at a temperature of 55 for 10 minutes. The fabric is then rinsed with cold water and then dried at 60 °.
The whitening liquor used is prepared as follows: 5 g of a detergent consisting of 16 parts of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, 4 parts of sodium dodecyl sulfate, 35 parts of sodium tripolyphosphate, 7 parts of tetrasodium pyrophosphate, 7 parts of sodium disilicate, 2 parts of magnesium silicate, 1 Part of carboxymethyl cellulose, 0.5 parts of ethylenediamine-tetraacetic acid sodium and 27.5 parts of sodium sulfaite are dissolved in 950 ml of water at 55 ° with stirring. Then 3.3 mg of brightener of the formula I, II or III are sprinkled on the solution and stirred for a further 90 seconds.
A mixture of 0.75 g of dichloro iso cyanurate and 4.25 g of sodium tripolyphosphate is then sprinkled on and stirred for a further 30 seconds.
The AufheHungseffekte are given in the table.
To determine the lightening effect that was obtained with the stilbene compounds I, II and III, the lightened tissues are visually assessed according to the white scale (WM) (seiche Keller, SVF Fachorgan 19, p. 481) and the fluorescence numbers (FZ) with a? Harrison fluorometer? from W. Harrison; No. Presto, England (see Lanter, SVF-Fadhorgan 19, p. 472).
The following values were obtained:
Connection WM FZ
III 145 183 II. 145 176 I. 130 133
From the above figures it can be seen that the compounds II and III according to the invention produce a better lightening effect than the comparable compound I of German Patent No. 942 395.
