Process for the production of oxidized azo compounds and their use in durable detergents The present invention relates to a process for the production of new compounds which are optical brighteners and their use in durable detergents.
Optical brighteners have in recent years found extensive use in the treatment of textile materials, especially when washing the same, and are intended to cancel the yellow or gray color that white textile materials, especially cellulose materials, can have, especially after repeated washing . Such optical brighteners also improve dyed textiles because they give the same gloss.
They are also used to give other cellulose materials, in particular paper, a distinctly white appearance.
Optical brighteners usually absorb light in the ultraviolet part of the spectrum and emit light in the visible part of the spectrum, usually blue-green to blue-violet.
Therefore, the fluorescence of these compounds counteracts yellowing in white materials, as is the case, for. B. occurs with repeated washing of white cotton or linen fabrics. The compounds used as optical brighteners have to attach noun to the fibers of the treated material and be practically stable when they are colored on the material to be treated.
In general, the best results are obtained with optical brighteners that have a fluorescent color that is complementary to that of the aged fiber, so that the colors cancel out. Since the most common discoloration of textiles from aging or repeated washing is yellow, the most suitable optical brightener is one that fluoresces blue.
It is important that the optical brightener is not destroyed or removed by bleaching agents, i.e. it must be bleach-resistant. The fluorescent optical brighteners are generally soaps and synthetic detergents. incorporated, which then come onto the market for household purposes. The objects washed with it who often the bleaching with various Bleichmit items, z. B. sodium hypochlorite, subjected.
It is therefore desirable that the optical brighteners already present on the fiber or in the washing solution be attacked as little as possible by any bleaching agent present.
It has now been shown that new compounds of the formula
