Cardboard consisting of several interconnected layers, a method for its production and use thereof. The invention relates to a cardboard consisting of several layers connected to one another, such as, for. B. corrugated cardboard with one-sided or double-sided smooth cover sheet, hard paper or flat hard-layered cardboard, a method for its manufacture position and use of the same.
The cardboard according to the invention is characterized in that all layers are wet strength and at least one layer contains a wax emulsion.
The invention also relates to a method for producing the cardboard according to the invention, which is characterized in that an agent for increasing the wet strength is added to the mass or masses from which the individual layers are made and then either a) at least one of the masses adding a wax emulsion and bonding the layers together to form a multilayer material, or b) bonding the layers together to form the multilayer material and coating the surface of the board with a wax emulsion.
The invention also relates to a use of the cardboard according to the invention for shuttering purposes for liquid concrete. The wax emulsion can also be applied as a layer on at least one of the layers of the paperboard.
In the production of solid cardboard, which consists of a plurality of layers stacked on top of one another, or in the production of corrugated cardboard, the layers for the solid cardboard or the inserts for the corrugated cardboard are conveniently made on a machine for the production of multilayer cardboard.
In such a machine, an agent for increasing the wet strength is added to the mass for the production of the layers, and in addition either a wax emulsion is added to at least one of the layers to increase the water resistance; For example, the wax emulsion can be added to the mostly two layers of the fabric, which form the outer layers of the cardboard made in the machine; or the wax emulsion is applied as a coating to one surface of the machine made paperboard.
The means for increasing the wet strength can be a thermosetting plastic, such as. B. urea-formaldehyde plastic, and the wax emulsion, as a means of increasing the moisture resistance, z. B. be the product marketed under the MYSTOLENE brand. MYSTOLENE is a free-flowing white emulsion base made from a resin-wax-protein mixture.
In the manufacture of solid cardboard or cardboard world, the layers of the former and the insert and the cover layers of the latter are preferably by means of a water-insoluble adhesive, such as. B. with urea-formaldehyde mixed starch, polyvinyl acetate or a resorcinol-formaldehyde plastic connected to each other.
A paperboard according to the invention, consisting of several interconnected layers, is wet-strength and moisture-proof and therefore particularly suitable for use under conditions where steam and moisture prevail. For example, such a material can be used for packaging that is exposed to steam, such as packaging for wet fish, frozen products, or for horticultural products that are often wet or damp. Another suitable use of the cardboard according to the invention has been found in another field, namely in construction.
It has been found that corrugated cardboard with a double-sided smooth cover sheet, which is produced according to the inventive method, when used as shuttering for concrete, not only withstands the moisture of the wet concrete, but also the forces associated with the wet concrete. The cardboard according to the invention is given considerable mechanical strength by the incorporation of urea-formaldehyde plastic.
An exemplary method according to the invention for producing corrugated cardboard with a double-sided smooth cover sheet is described in more detail below.
Corrugated cardboard usually has an insert placed between two cover layers. The top layers are produced in the conventional way on a machine for the production of multi-layer cardboard, except that urea-formaldehyde plastic is added to the compound in the junction box associated with each trough and that a wax emulsion is applied to the cardboard, when it reaches the calender chair or the flat press.
In the calender chair, the normal water scraper in the form of a tub is filled with wax suspended in water, and when the cardboard passes the scraper, the wax is applied and the cardboard emerging from the machine then has a smoothed coating of wax emulsion on its surface . In this way, due to the addition of urea-formaldehyde plastic, the cardboard is wet-strength and due to the wax coating, it is moisture-proof.
Urea-formaldehyde plastic is also added to the mass used to manufacture the insert for the corrugated cardboard box in order to give the insert wet strength.
The insert made from this mass is fed to a conventional machine for the production of corrugated cardboard together with the two cover layers, the moisture-resistant surfaces of which are arranged in such a way that they lie on the outside of the finished box. Starch mixed with urea-formaldehyde plastic is used to connect the two outer layers to the insert.
In the manufacture of solid, layered cardboard according to the invention, the cardboard, as already described, is produced on a machine for the production of multi-layer cardboard and two or more cardboard sheets are glued together to form the solid cardboard. The surface of each outer layer with the coating of wax emulsion is arranged on the outside of the solid cardboard. Here, too, starch mixed with urea-formaldehyde plastic is used to connect the individual layers.
The production of the cardboard on the machine for the production of multilayer cardboard can also be varied. For example, a wax emulsion can be added to the mass or masses instead of being applied as a layer. If the cardboard produced has six layers, then e.g. B. MYSTOLENE can be added to one or more layers according to the amount of moisture resistance required.
MYSTOLENE can be added to urea formaldehyde plastic. When manufacturing strong cardboard, the layers that are not on the outside are only treated with an agent to increase wet strength, such as the insert of the corrugated cardboard box.
The means for increasing the wet strength can be any thermosetting plastic except urea-formaldehyde plastic, such as. E.g. melamine formaldehyde plastic, and any water insoluble adhesive can be used such as e.g. B. polyvinyl acetate, or a resorcinol formaldehyde plastic.
An example of the use of corrugated cardboard with a double-sided smooth cover sheet or of solid cardboard, manufactured as described, is the formwork when laying corrugated or waffled concrete floors.
The casing is formed by evenly side-by-side arranging a large number of aligned U-channel sections, each formed from a single piece of corrugated cardboard with a double-sided smooth cover sheet or from solid cardboard. Rigidity is given to the formwork by filling the inverted sections with a cell-like structure assembled from the corrugated cardboard or the rigid cardboard in the same way as the subdivisions used in egg trays.
The subdivision is formed by slotted sheets of corrugated cardboard or solid cardboard, which cut at right angles to each other. The sections are nailed end to end in parallel rows on a wooden base and all joints between the sections are sealed with water-resistant adhesive tape. The sections are spaced from one another by a certain amount, which depends on the required width for the floor ribs or, in the case of a waffled floor, individual section units are spaced apart from one another according to the required gap size.
The rigidity of the formwork is correctly arranged in such a way that it is possible to walk on it before or during the laying of the concrete.
The concrete is cut into the spaces between the sections and poured over the top of the sections to the required depth and then usually compacted using compressed air. When the concrete has set, the wooden base is removed and the formwork pulled out. The corrugated cardboard or solid cardboard is able to withstand the forces exerted by the concrete and the moisture content.
The moisture and wet strength of this formwork is so good that the cell-like structures can be used a few times as they are not attacked or deformed by the moisture, but the number of possible reuses depends on how the formwork is handled becomes.
With the inventive cardboard ver different forms of formwork can be produced who and this material can also be used for other purposes such. B. for the production of boxes or containers are used.
