Guardrail The well-known guardrails, consisting of steel, light metal or reinforced concrete = rails attached to posts, have three main disadvantages. When stressed below the proportional limit of the overall construction, they behave elastically in accordance with Hooke's law. The approaching vehicle is reflected and can give rise to chain accidents. If the load is above the proportionality limit, the impact energy is converted into plastic deformation work of the rail, post and anchorage.
The vehicle gets stuck in the chaos of the shattered parts. The guardrail does not act as a guide device, but as a safety device and must then destroy the entire starting energy. Expensive, time-consuming repairs, traffic obstructions and the like are to be expected after exposure or destruction.
The present invention aims to remedy these disadvantages; It consists in the fact that shock-absorption elements are arranged between the guide rail and its support members, which at least in part consist of upholstery material.
The term upholstery comes from packaging technology and includes both natural and synthetic materials.
Special technical advantages arise when using synthetic foams such. B. made of polystyrene, phenol or polyurethane. Such elements behave resiliently in the event of impacts and are able to swallow large amounts of energy with a small deformation path. The shock-absorbing elements can preferably also consist of a sandwich-like combina tion of different materials, for. B. polyurethane foam layers with solid panels exist. The whole thing can be plastically deformable or have the property of slow spring back.
Thanks to the arrangement of such shock-absorbing elements, the reflection of the vehicle is avoided and the timing of the shock is extended to such an extent that the forces acting on the rails, posts and anchors do not exceed a certain level, i.e. these structural parts remain intact.
The shock-absorption elements are designed as inexpensive wear parts with a simple design and can also be retrofitted as a spacer between the guardrail and post in existing guardrails. Particular advantages result if the guide rail is largely dimensionally stable.
In the accompanying drawing, an embodiment of the guardrail according to the invention is shown purely by way of example. The figures show: FIG. 1 a vertical section of the guardrail, FIG. 2 a horizontal section of the guardrail according to FIG. 1.
The guardrail 1 of the usual design is attached to an iron post 4, which is rammed into the earth 5 rich, via a foam plastic 2 and a base plate 3, which here consists of a non-tempered plank section. The base plate 3 is connected directly to the post 4 via 6 screws. A metal bracket 7 is connected to the post 4 by means of screws 8. At the outer ends of the bracket 7, screws 9 hold the guide rail 1, the foam plastic 2 and the plate 3 together.
In the event of slight impacts on the rail 1, mainly only the plastic foam 2, which is used as an impact-absorption element, is deformed and at least partially regenerates itself. In the event of severe impacts, the base plate 3 and the bracket 7 are also used for energy absorption. Parts 2, 3 and 7 then deform permanently and are replaced after the impact.
The shock-absorbing element can also consist of a sandwich-like connection of different materials and be plastically deformable as a whole or have the ability to slowly spring back.
