Method of manufacturing a display counter drum and drum obtained by this method Display counters are usually constructed as shown in the perspective view of FIG. 1.
On a cylindrical core 1 are threaded and placed side by side drums such as 2, 3, 4, carrying the numbers of the counter at the rate of ten units (from zero to nine) also distributed around their periphery.
An inner circular midrib of each drum centers it over the core. On either side of this rib are, on one side an internal toothed ring 5 and, on the other side, a virtually similar ring, not exceeding the profile of the base of the teeth, to the except for two teeth separated by the intermediate hollow.
Finally, in a longitudinal groove 6 of the core 1 extends a pin 7 carrying pinions 8, one end of which here carries six teeth and the other three. The six teeth are intended, for each pinion, to mesh with the ring gear of a corresponding drum, while the three teeth are in the path of the pair of teeth of the adjacent drum, each pinion lying astride two drums neighbors.
These pinions are used to transport tens in the sense that at each complete revolution of a lower row drum, its pair of teeth drives the pinion, which thus advances the drum of the immediately higher row by one.
This being known, the drums, of fairly complex profile, are molded, generally in injected metal.
However, this manufacturing process is not only expensive, whatever the size of the drums, but also difficult to apply when it comes to very small size meters, with a drum diameter of less than 10 mm for example.
The object of the present invention is to facilitate this type of construction and to make it less expensive and moreover applicable to the establishment of very small diameter meters.
To this end, the method of manufacturing a drum according to the present invention is characterized in that a ring is made bearing on its periphery the units of the meter and having inside, in its middle, a circular rib of on either side of which an annular housing remains. and two rings, one of which has an internal toothed ring and the other has two contiguous teeth, these two rings are placed respectively in one and the other of said housings, and these rings are made mechanically integral with the ring.
This solidarity can be achieved by total or partial crimping, the rings can be forced into the ring or held by punching or glued.
Another subject of the invention is the drum obtained by this process. This drum is characterized in that it is made up of three parts: a ring carrying the counter units and having at its center an internal circular rib, thus providing two internal housings on either side of this rib, a first ring , having an internal toothed ring, disposed in one of these housings, and a second ring, having two contiguous teeth, disposed in the other housing, the two rings being integral with the ring.
The fi-. 2 of the accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, in exploded perspective, one form of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
particular construction of the drum forming the subject of the invention.
At 9, we see a ring, carrying, on its periphery, units 10 and having in its middle, or in its median plane, an internal circular rib 11.
On either side of this rib there are two annular housings 13 and 14.
In the housing 13 is placed a ring 15, in the form of a toothed ring with internal teeth. In the opposite housing 14 is placed a ring 16, having only two contiguous teeth 17, 18.
The whole being assembled, a drum is obtained such as the drums 2, 3, 4 of FIG. 1.
The connection between the ring and the rings will be made, either by forcing the rings into the ring, or by total or partial crimping or even by simple punches or riveting. Bonding can also be considered.
Considering, finally, that the relative angular position of the parts to be assembled is predetermined, it may be appropriate to fix it, for example, by a pin which could simultaneously serve as a fixing means.
The advantage achieved consists in the fact that, taken separately, the three constituent elements 14, 15, 16 of the drum, are easy to perform by bar turning or even by simple cutting, and in any dimension, in particular as small as we will want.
