Abstract

The mechanical counter is driven from an input shaft with pinions axially movable on spigots and kept in contact with a spring. The input shaft is connected to one of a number of coaxial cylinders each of which has concurrent numbers on the outside. Each cylinder is connected to the next cylinder via a pinion and spigot so that the cylinders rotate in the correct ratio to count the number of input turns. Each pinion is radially cut with three V shaped cut outs equally spaced around the circumference. An intermittently operating gear between the input shaft and first cylinder consists of a rotatable and coaxial flange on the spigot and has internal gear teeth.
