On peut ainsi effectuer Passemblage de l'appareil à la pression atmosphérique, et :au moyen d'une suc- cession d'opérations: très simples. De plus;

Apparatus for the fractional distribution of a liquid or powder product The present invention relates to an apparatus for the fractional distribution of a liquid or powder product. In the case of a liquid, this device allows the spraying of the liquid.
Sprayers are already known comprising an outer container containing the active product to be dispensed, an inner reservoir containing a propellant gas under pressure, a cap closing the outer container and holding the inner reservoir in place,
this plug comprising a push button for controlling the exhaust of the thruster and supporting a tube which plunges into the active product with which it feeds an ejection nozzle.
When the push button is pressed, the valve is opened. The propellant gas vaporizes and, by escaping through the nozzle, causes a vacuum which sucks the liquid to be sprayed through the immersion tube. This liquid is dispersed in fine droplets and projected outside. by the gas stream.
The advantage of such a device is that it allows complete and permanent separation of the product to be vaporized and the propellant, these two products only being brought together for a very short time interval at the precise moment of spraying. . The drawbacks encountered in aerosol cans resulting from incompatibilities between the pro pulser are thus remedied.
liquefied and the: active product to be sprayed.
However, a device has the drawback of not allowing a tight closure of the outer container containing the active agent, which can thus leak or evaporate and deteriorate.
To remedy this drawback, it has been proposed to mount a sealed shutter on the head of the sprayer, closing the outlet orifice of the spray nozzle. However, such a device is: of a complicated construction and handling.
Also known are: various vaporizers comprising a triple shutter with central control worn by a push button; however. known devices of this type are also complicated systems that are difficult to handle.
The purpose of the dispensing apparatus according to the invention is to: remedy the drawbacks of the devices known hitherto.
This apparatus for the fractional distribution of a liquid or pulverulent product comprises an external container containing the active product to be distributed, an internal reservoir containing a pressurized propellant gas,
a cap closing the outer container and holding the inner tank in place, this cap comprising a push button for controlling the exhaust of the propellant and supporting a tube immersed in the product of which it feeds an ejection nozzle.
The apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that the propellant tank is provided with a high pressure shutter made integral with the control push-button, which comprises two low-pressure shutters controlling, one the communication of the dip tube with the nozzle:
ejection and the other communication of the container containing the active product -with the external atmosphere.
Preferably, the high pressure shutter, which is integral with the propellant tank .de so as to constitute an independent assembly, comprises a nozzle provided with a gas expansion nozzle.
This nozzle is capped by the control push-button while the cap of the dispensing device is provided with a deformable flange allowing fitting of the propellant tank by fitting.
The apparatus can thus be assembled at atmospheric pressure, and: by means of a series of very simple operations. Furthermore;
the nozzle with its nozzle allow by rolling through. orifice, a first expansion of the propellant, favorable to the suction of the liquid:
According to an advantageous arrangement of the apparatus, the control pushbutton is slidably mounted in a bowl of the stopper which communicates: with the receptacle containing the active product and which is traversed by a nozzle:
bringing the propellant to the ejection nozzle. This push-button is provided with a duct connecting in an active position the aforementioned bowl to this same nozzle.
This duct is closed by a flexible seal surrounding the push-button and which closes the bowl, when the dispensing device is not actuated. This flexible seal can also be used to close one: air inlet duct, so that the same seal belongs to the two low shutters. pressure.
Various embodiments of these shutters are provided. According to one of them, the - previous flexible seal is embedded in the stopper, while in another assembly - it has a certain latitude of movement along the control pushbutton between two pairs of stops.
In another version, this seal is removed; and the push button comprises -stagged annular projections in sealed contact with the wall of the bowl,
the communication ducts formed in the stopper and ending in the dip tube on the one hand and inside the container on the other hand opening into said bowl at different levels, in relation to the projections of the push button.

Fig. 8 shows the same device at work. Fig. 9 shows, as in FIG. 7, an alternative embodiment, at rest. Fig. 10 is a similar view of the previous apparatus at work.
We will assume, to fix the ideas, that the product to be distributed is a liquid. In. In this case, the fractional distribution of this liquid consists of its spraying, in particular in the form of very fine droplets with a view to producing a mist which can be comparable, by -its fineness to those produced by the usual aerosol cans.
In the embodiment considered, the dispensing apparatus comprises an outer container 1, for example made of plastic material, containing the liquid active agent 2 to be sprayed.
The container 1 is terminated by a neck 3 which is closed by a solid stopper 4. The latter carries the reservoir 5 containing the propellant 6 (liquefied gas for example), the kinetic energy of which in the event. exhaust: is used for spraying liquid 2.
For example, the propellant can consist of a gas with high vapor pressure such as carbon dioxide; chlorofluorinated hydrocarbons, such as dichlorodifluoromethane, propane, etc.
The reservoir 5 -peut-6tre made, for example, thick glass or light alloy. In the first case (shown in the figures), a container of large diameter and low height is preferably taken to limit the. bending forces at the point of attachment. In the second case, one chooses rather a container 5 of small diameter extending over the entire available height of the -recipient 1.
The reservoir 5 is provided with a high pressure shutter 7, of any type, which is housed inside the dome 8 with a cover 9 covering the reservoir 5.
The shutter 7 is formed by a conventional aerosol valve. This comprises, in the example described a nozzle 11 slidably mounted in a body 20 which communicates through an orifice 30 with the interior of the tank 5. The nozzle 11 is urged into the closed position by the pressure of the liquefied gas and by a return spring 12.
The nozzle 11 compresses at rest an annular -souple seal 13 against the bottom 10 of the dome 8, so as to close one or more radial ducts 14 which open into the axial channel 15 of a nozzle 16 .
The reservoir 5 provided with its high pressure shutter thus arranged forms a first autonomous sub-assembly which can be filled with propellant gas by conventional aerosol filling techniques and which can then be handled at the latmos pressure. RTI ID = "0002.0224 "WI =" 14 "HE =" 4 "LX =" 1131 "LY =" 2278 "> pherical.
To allow the reservoir 5 to be easily and quickly attached, the cap 4 is provided with an annular frame 17 with a tapered edge 18 capable of fitting onto the cover 9 by elastic deformation.
On the other hand, the stopper 4 is hollowed out with a cavity 19 whose volume corresponds to that of the dome 8.
The cavity 19 is surmounted by a bowl 21, with gradual widening, the bottom of which is constituted by a flexible collar 22 reserving an orifice 23- for the passage of the nozzle 16 of the high pressure shutter 7.
Under these conditions, by pushing the cover 9 of the reservoir 5 into the frame 17, the nozzle 16 is brought along the axis of the bowl 21. The dimensions of the system are calculated such that the bottom 10 of the dome 8 pushes back. slightly the collar 22 in it, elas @ tically deforming, which ensures a tight junction of these: surfaces.
The stopper 4 has on the other hand a housing 40 in which is force-fitted a tube 24 which immerses in the liquid 2. The junction thus produced is sealed. The tube 24 communicates with the bowl 21 via a conduit 25 which opens into the latter via an opening 26.
The dispensing apparatus further comprises a push button 27, the head 28 of which contains the ejection nozzle 29 of the convergent-divergent type.
The push-button 27 may be made of molded synthetic material of the semi-rigid type and the attached nozzle 29 either of a light alloy or of stainless steel or of a rigid synthetic material.
The head 27 is extended axially by a body 31 terminated by a sleeve 32 provided both to take place in the cup 21 and to seal the nozzle 16.
When the device is mounted, the pushbutton 27 is thus movable: axially at the same time as the high pressure shutter 7 which carries it, this assembly constituting a unit in one piece.
The body 31 of the push-button 27 is pierced with two channels 33 .parallel to the axis AA of the apparatus (fig. 3), which upstream meet in a chamber 34 extending the channel 15: of the nozzle 16 and which downstream open into a chamber 35 of axis BB orthogonal to the previous one and which corresponds to the axis of the nozzle 29.
This nozzle can be of any type and include, for example; simply a converging duct 36, a neck 37 and a -divergent duct 38.
Radial channels 41 open into the neck 37 which communicate with an annular chamber 42 for distributing the liquid to be sprayed. The chamber 42 is supplied by an oblique duct 43 pierced in a partition 44, separating the two channels 33 (FIG. 3).
The conduit 43 opens to. upstream by an orifice 45 in an annular constriction 46 of the body 31 and it is controlled by a low pressure shutter essentially comprising a flexible seal 47. The circular synthetic rubber is circular in shape and has a central orifice for the passage of the body 31, this orifice being however of smaller diameter than that of the annular constriction 46 on which it clamps in order to seal.
The seal 47, in the example considered, also appears in the second shutter, at low pressure, controlled by the button 27 and serving for the admission of air into the container 1 only during the period of use.
To perform this function, the stopper 4 is pierced with a channel 48, the upper end of which opens out above @du seal 47, in an annular groove 49 separated from the cup 21 by a rette adhesive 51 on which the seal 47 takes a fixed support under the action of a semi-rigid cap 52, force-fitted on a projection 53 of: plug 4.
The cap 52, which has a central opening 54 for the wise pitch of the body 31, is bordered by a flange 55 directed towards the seal 47 and which bears on it in the rest state. Radial channels 56 place the conduit 4: 8 in communication with the space between the seal 47, the cap 52 and the flange 55. The latter, by resting on the seal 47, at rest separates said space from the flange. outdoor atmosphere.
The, as: semblage constituted by the plug 4, .the reservoir see 5 filled with its propellant gas (first subassembly), the push button 27 and their annexes can be mounted separately and constitutes a second subassembly. To complete the assembly of the dispenser, it suffices to engage this sub-assembly in the receptacle 1 until an annular rim 58 of the stopper 4 bears against the neck 3 of the receptacle 1.
This neck has an external projection 61 allowing the fixing by elastic interlocking. Of an annular cover 62 comprising an internal rib 63 and a central opening 64 for the wise passage of the stopper 4. As the interior of the container 1 is. not under pressure, this assembly can be carried out very easily, and with quite suitable sealing, by simple engagement of the various components and without any screwing.
To make this device inviolable, the rim 58 can be made integral with the neck 3 by gluing or by welding, depending on the nature of the plastic materials present, the dispensing device not being, in principle, intended to be recharged.
With the device mounted and naked (fig. 2), the push-button 27 is held in the upper position by the spring 12 and by the pressure of the propellant 6. The seal 47 is thus applied to the annular rim 55 of the cap 52 .
Under these conditions, the bowl 21 is sealed off by the seal 47, the orifice 45 being located above the latter. In this way, the liquid 2 cannot leak, even if it enters this bowl passing through the tube 24 and the conduit 25.
On the other hand, the part of the chamber 49 between the seal 47 and the cap 52 and which is in relation with the duct 48 is sealed off with respect to the external atmosphere. Any fact of liquid 2 is therefore also impossible by this route.
If the push-button 27 (FIG. 4) is pressed while inserting it into the plug 4, the nozzle 11 of the shutter 7 slides along G in the body 20 of this shutter; by compressing the spring 12. The flexible seals 13 and 47 under the effect of this displacement are bent as shown in FIG. 4 and uncover the conduit 14 of the nozzle 16 as well as the orifice 45 of the conduit 43; which has entered the bowl 21 below the seal 47.
The first result of this displacement is to put the reservoir 5 in communication with the external atmosphere, which causes the circulation of the propellant fluid following f.
This circulation comprises a first expansion at the outlet of the duct 14 which gives the vaporized propellant a high speed in the nozzle 16. This speed is further increased after passing through the convergent 36 - diver gent 38 of the ejection nozzle 29.
Under the effect of this gas circulation, a depression is created at the neck 37 of the nozzle which has the effect of sucking the liquid 2 along the path j: dip tube 24, duct 25, bowl 21, duct 43, chamber 42, radial channels 41. The liquid reaching the neck 42 of the nozzle 29 is projected outwards and sprayed, by the gas flow f circulating along the axis BB of the head 28.
At the same time: that the liquid 2 circulates following j, thus gradually emptying the receptacle 1, the outside air is adonis inside this receptacle, due to the eclipsing of the seal 47, making the circulation ide possible. this. air through channels 56 and pipe 48 (path k).
The support of the curved part of the seal 47 against the conical part of the groove 46 prevents any re-entry .d'air which would cut off the suction of the liquid stream.
It can be seen from experience that the rise of the liquid 2 following j is practically instantaneous, even if the receptacle 1 is not very full, so that as soon as the button 27 is pressed, the spraying takes place, without. that there is loss of the propellant. It is because of this instantaneity that the present invention provides for the simultaneous detachment of the seals 13 and 17.
Note that the bowl 21 provided in the stopper 4 plays a specific role: after spraying a certain quantity of liquid is in the bowl 21. When the device is used again, this liquid is expelled by the body. 31 of the button 27 (during the descent of the latter) so that it is sent mechanically into the duct 43.
This contributes to bringing liquid 2 almost instantaneously to the level of the neck 42 -of the nozzle 29.
During operation, the propellant 6 cools, ruais it receives a supply of calories from the thick wall of the tank 5 (or from the liquid 2 if this tank is thin-walled, and soaks in the latter).
In particular, as the extrusion of aluminum makes it possible to obtain containers of great length economically, provision can be made for the thin-walled tank to extend over the entire height of the outer container. Under these conditions, the reserve of liquefied propellant gas can be any:
during the use of the apparatus, reheated by the calories which can be supplied by the liquid to be sprayed itself.
Experience shows that the arrangement thus constituted makes it possible, by means of the choice of an appropriate vented ejector, to obtain a fine spray (droplets of the order of a few tens of microns in diameter approximately). with reduced propellant consumption,
the weight of the latter may thus be initially of the order of 30% relative to the weight of the liquid 2 to be sprayed.
The entry of the outside air through the duct 48 also facilitates the emptying of the container 1 by avoiding any depressurization of the inside ide this container with respect to the atmosphere.
The embodiment described has the following advantages: - By using plastic containers, corrosion problems are eliminated. Therefore, water can be used as a solvent, with the addition of products modifying the surface tension,
to give it such a spraying property. The cost of the formulation provided for the liquid agent 2 is also lowered.
- As a result of the absence of contact between the propellant 6 and the liquid 2, the use of non-flammable aqueous solutions can be generalized, in particular those. containing organic products emulsified or in solution.
- Due to the fact that the receptacle 1 has an appreciable volume, it provides good protection against splinters in the event of an explosion of the tank 5.
- Spraying is provided by a simple finger pressure, the dispensing device being held in the same hand. The push-button 27 can moreover be rotated without inconvenience around the axis A-A.
If, moreover, a practically non-flammable gas is used as propellant, for example a chlorofiluinated hydrocarbon such as dichlorodifluoromethane, it is possible to produce.
non-flammable devices both in storage and in use, presenting no fire hazard in the event of an explosion, a cost price much lower than that of conventional aerosol cans, due to the lower quantity of pro blower and the ability to perform assembly operations at atmospheric pressure.
Finally, these devices make it possible to use a range of aqueous solutions which is much more extensive than in the usual aerosol technique.
- Another advantage is that it is possible to use any high pressure plugs 7.
Thus, in fig. 5, the sliding nozzle 11 of the shutter has a frustoconical bearing surface 65 which is applied against a corresponding bearing surface of a thick seal 66 fixedly mounted in the body 20.
In fig. 6, the sliding nozzle 11 is provided with an O-ring bead 67 forming a valve. This bead 67 bears against a fixed flexible seal 68, wedged between the body 20 (provided here with a centering collar 69) and the dome 8 of the cover 9.
These high pressure shutters are in themselves known. Any other high-pressure push-button shut-off devices could still be used, so that the structure of RTI ID = "0004.0212" WI = "18" HE = "4" LX = "1572" LY = "2614"> shutter 7 does not will not be specified in the description below.
In: fig. 7 and 8, the shutters. at low pressure for the product 2 to be dispensed and for the air comprising a single flexible annular seal 71 which is mounted in the bowl 21 of the stopper 4 of the container 1 and which is crossed by the body 31 of the push-button 27 .
In this arrangement, however, the seal 71 of appreciable thickness is mounted with appreciable longitudinal play in an annular groove 72 of the body 31, so that the free movement of the seal 71 is limited only by a pair of annular stops. 73,
74 delimiting the groove 72 on this body. A groove 75 is formed along the groove 72. This groove is extended by a duct 81 opening out at the neck 82 of a venturi fitting, the cover of which can be seen at 83. and at 84 the divergent. The convergent 83 is supplied by an .axial .canal 85 in the extension of the nozzle 16.
The apparatus includes a second pair of annular stops. 76, 77 respectively formed by a flat .de lia .cuvette 21 and by the cap 52 which protrudes through .rapport to the projection 53 of the plug 4. The distance provided between the stops 73, 74 and 76, 77 is greater than the 'thickness of the seal 71. In this version, the orifice 78 of the duct 48 opens directly into the bowl 21, inside the annular space 79 left free by the seal 71.
Under these conditions, at rest (fig. 7) the button 27 is pushed by the nozzle 16 of the shutter 7, which causes the stop 74 to push the seal 71 against the stop 77, ensuring the sealed closure of the bowl 21 relative to the external atmosphere.
When the button 27 (fig. 8) is pressed, it is the stop 73 which contacts the seal 71 and pushes it until it is stopped by the stop 76. The liquid 2 brought in by the tube 24 fills the lower part of chamber 21 and passes, in particular through groove 75, into the orifice of duct 81.
At the same time, the orifice 78 of the duct 48 is isolated by the seal 71 of the bowl 21 and placed in communication with the atmosphere. It would also be possible to use a plug 27 with an attached nozzle, already described.
The realization of fig. 9. And 10 is remarkable in that the push button 27 made of polytetrafluoroethylene, a plastic material with a low coefficient of friction, slides through its body 31 in the bowl 21, making contact with the latter by staggered annular projections 86, 87 ,
88 between which are formed annular grooves 89, 91. At rest (fig. 9), the duct 48 serving .at the inlet of the air opens in front of the groove 89 while the duct 25 which extends the dip tube 24 opens below the projection 88. In this version the ejection nozzle 29 is directed vertically, that is to say along the axis of the device.
Finally, the push-button 27 is extended laterally by two branches, 92 for views of the finger rest 93.
With this mounting da cap 52 of FIG. 7 becomes unnecessary, which constitutes a further simplification. We understand that at rest; triple sealing is ensured with regard to the outside air of the liquid 2 and the propellant contained in the tank 5.
When the push-button 27 (FIG. 10) is pressed, the projection 86 passes aur.dessouss the orifice of the duct 48 putting the latter in communication with the atmosphere. At the same time, the groove 91 comes in front of the orifice of the duct 25 allowing the -monte -du liquid 2 in the duct 43.
The operation is the same as above, except for the fact that the spraying takes place along a vertical axis, taking into account the arrangement adopted for the nozzle 29. In this way, spraying is obtained along the axis of the container.
We see that in. In this version, the number of constituent organs of the apparatus is very low. In addition the assembly .de these parts can be performed very quickly, since it does not require, on the push button 27, the mounting of any seal.
On the other hand, the container 1 could be divided into two compartments connected by separate channels to the spray nozzle, each channel having its own shutter.
It is thus possible to distribute two incompatible products, for example an acid and a base, a resin and its polymerization catalyst, etc. Finally, it goes without saying that the container 1, the stopper 4 and its annexes can be made of any materials: glass or metal for example.
