Can opener The present invention relates to a can opener. This can opener is characterized by the fact that it comprises two levers articulated one on the other carrying two wheels, one of which is provided with means allowing it to turn, each mounted rotatably on one. said levers,
eccentrically with respect to their axis of articulation so that the distance separating said knobs varies with the relative angular position of said levers and thus makes it possible to pinch between said knobs, placed in a plane parallel to the bottom of the box to be opened, the edge of this box, the can opener further comprising a rotary circular knife, intended to cut the side wall of the box below the level of the bottom thereof, so that the latter is separated from the box, with its rim, and can then constitute a cover suitable for being placed on the box.
The drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a can opener, and FIG. 2 is a longitudinal partial section thereof, the can opener being shown in the operating position.
The can opener shown comprises two levers 1 and 2, of plastic material, of rectangular cross section, applied against each other and joined by a joint. Each of them has, on its external face, a recess 3 in the bottom of which can be inscribed, for example, a trademark.
The articulation of the levers 1 and 2 is provided by a journal consisting of a drop 2a which the lever 2 presents, engaged in a corresponding hole 4 of the lever 1. The height of the drop 2a corresponds to the thickness of the lever 1 such that the axial face of this drop is flush with the external face of lever 1.
The lever 2 carries, applied to the axial face of its drop 2a, a rotary wheel 5 whose axis is parallel to that of the drop but is slightly offset relative to it. This wheel is riveted to the end of a shaft 6 passing through the grout 2a as well as the lever 2, and carrying, at its opposite end, a control handle 7 allowing it to be turned.
The lever 1 carries, in the vicinity of its hole 4, a journal 8 on which is mounted a wheel 9, slightly thicker than the wheel 5. This knob also carries a circular knife 10, also mounted idle on it, held in place, as well as the wheel 9, by a washer 11 riveted to the end of the journal 8. The diameter of the knife 10 is greater than that of the wheel 9.
Thanks to the eccentricity of the wheel 5 with respect to the drop 2a, the distance separating the wheels 9 and 5 varies with the relative angular position of the levers 1 and 2, reaching its minimum when the levers are superimposed, as shown in the drawing .
The present can opener operates as follows: The wheels 5 and 9 being placed in a plane parallel to the bottom, designated by 12, of a box 13, the rim of the latter, designated by 14, is engaged between the wheels and is pinched by these when tightening levers 1 and 2. With the handle 7 then actuated, the wheel 5 drives the box 13 in rotation and the knife 10 cuts the side wall of the box, just below the level of the bottom 12. The bottom, provided with the rim 14, is thus detached from the box and can then be used as a cover standing on the latter.
