<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Stepping mechanism, in particular for driving number rollers and type wheels. The invention relates to a. Step-by-step mechanism, which is particularly suitable for driving number rollers and type wheels, with two ring-shaped rings of sliding surfaces formed on the rotor to be incremented, which are inclined in the two rings in opposite directions with respect to the circumferential direction of the rings and offset with respect to one another,
and with a pusher, which can be moved back and forth by a drive device by means of the indexing pulses, for driving in half steps by successive cooperation with a sliding surface of one ring and a sliding surface of the other ring per pulse.
In a known stepping mechanism of this type, the sliding surfaces are designed in such a way that the pusher that works with them to drive the rotor has to execute a movement in a direction parallel to the rotor axis. In some applications, this results in two significant disadvantages: First, the forces parallel to the axis exert a tilting moment on the rotor, which at least makes it more difficult to mount the rotor, especially if the rotor has a short slide bearing or two bearings arranged a short distance from one another .
Secondly, a multiple roller indexing mechanism, in which a number of rotors are arranged axially next to one another and can be driven individually, takes up a relatively large amount of space in the axial direction because there must be gaps between the adjacent rotors whose width is at least equal to the sum of the stroke and the thickness of the handle or an arm supporting the same.
Another disadvantage of the known design is that the two rings of sliding surfaces are present on two workpieces to be produced individually. If one wanted to form all sliding surfaces on a one-piece work piece, then this would require relatively expensive operations, since production in a simple press mold does not appear to be possible.
The object of the invention is to eliminate the disadvantages outlined without abandoning the principle of the drive in two half-steps per pulse. This is the aim of the stepping mechanism according to the invention.
This is essentially achieved in that the sliding surfaces of the two rings are arranged on an axial end face of the rotor and are formed at least approximately by cutouts from spiral surfaces whose origin lies on the axis of the rotor, and that the movement path of the pusher is at least approximately radial to the rotor runs.
Further details of the invention follow from the dependent claims, the description and the drawing, in which three exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are illustrated.
1 shows a schematic side view of a counter designed as a stepping mechanism with a single number roller which can be actuated by electrical pulses, as well as an electrical circuit for driving and zeroing the counter; FIG. 2 shows, on a larger scale, a perspective view of the rotor of the stepping mechanism according to FIG. 1 and illustrates the sliding surfaces designed as flanks of a groove;
3 shows part of the second exemplary embodiment with sliding surfaces formed on a rib; 4 shows part of the third exemplary embodiment in a perspective view.
According to FIG. 1, an electromagnet 2 is attached to a yoke 1, the armature 3 of which is attached to the yoke 1
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
is pivoted. The yoke 1, the core of the electromagnet 2 and the armature 3 are made of magnetically conductive material such as. B. iron, and form the magnetic circuit. A set of contact springs 4a, 4b and 4c is also attached to the yoke 1 with the aid of insulating pieces 4d. The middle contact spring 4b can cooperate with either of the other two; together with the contact spring 4a it forms a first switch and with the contact spring 4c it forms a second switch.
On an axis 5, which runs parallel to the pivot axis of the armature 3, a number roller 6 is rotatably mounted, which on its circumference with digits, z. B. from 0 to 9 is provided. An arm 7 is attached to the armature 3, which carries a pin 8 serving as a pusher, which runs parallel to the axis 5 and is arranged in such a way that it moves on a path that is at least approximately radial to the axis 5 when the armature 3 is pivoted. A radial component of movement of the pin B is sufficient.
One axial end face of the roller 6 has a zigzag-shaped, endless groove 9, the formation of which is more clearly visible in FIG. The groove extends back and forth between two circles of different diameters and has a clear width that is slightly larger than the diameter of the pin 8. The latter engages in the groove 9 and works together with the flanks of the groove 9.
These flanks partially form sliding surfaces 9a and 9b on which the pin 8 slides when the roller 6 is driven. A distinction can be made between two groups of sliding surfaces 9a and 9b, the sliding surfaces of each group being arranged in an annular ring. The sliding surfaces 9a of one group are the outer flank parts which, viewed in the clockwise direction of rotation in FIG. 2, extend from the circle of smaller diameter to the circle of larger diameter, ie. H. are inclined outward with respect to the circumferential direction.
The sliding surfaces 9b of the other group are the inner flank portions which, viewed in the clockwise direction of rotation in FIG. 2, extend from the circle of larger diameter to the circle of smaller diameter and are thus inclined inward with respect to the circumferential direction. The sliding surfaces of the two groups are therefore in; with respect to the circumferential direction of the ring inclined in the opposite direction and moreover offset to one another in the circumferential direction, so that the sliding surfaces 9a of one group face the spaces between the sliding surfaces 9b of the other group.
The number of sliding surfaces in each group corresponds to the number of digits of the roller 6 or to the number of rotation steps provided for one revolution of the roller 6. In the ideal case, each of the sliding surfaces 9a and 9b has the course of an Archimedean spiral, the origin of which lies in the axis of the roller 6.
The armature is under the influence of a spring 10 which tries to pivot the armature 3 away from the magnet 2 and to move the pin 8 against the axis 5 of the roller 6 by means of the arm 7. In the housing of the meter described here, a slide 11 in FIG. 1 is guided displaceably in the horizontal direction. The slide 11 is under the influence of a spring 12 which tends to move the slide 11 to the left in FIG. 1. One end of the slide 11 protrudes from the housing of the meter and can be pushed in against the force of the spring 12.
The other end of the slide carries a roller 13 which cooperates with an inclined surface of a cam 14 which is arranged on the central contact spring 4b. In the rest position of the slide 11, the roller 13 and the cam 14 cause the contact spring 4b to be in contact with the upper contact spring 4a. By pushing in the slide 11, however, the middle contact spring 4b can be brought into contact with the lower contact spring 4c.
A ring 16, which has a cam 15, is rotatably arranged on one end face of the roller 6. The latter is intended to work together with the central contact spring 4b when the slide 11 is pushed in against the influence of the spring 12. It is advisable to have spring catches, not shown in the drawing, which are able to secure the ring 16 in any of several predetermined positions against unintentional rotation. The number of these layers expediently corresponds to that of the steps provided for one revolution of the roller 6.
According to Fig. 1, the coil of the electromagnet 2 and the contact springs 4a, 4b and 4c are connected to different circuits. The one circuit, which is the actual working circuit. and is connected to the contact spring 4a, has a power source 17 and a pulse switch 18, which is closed and opened in some way not to be described here in order to bring about a rotation step of the roller 6 each time. The other circuit is connected to the contact spring 4c and contains an automatic pulse generator, which consists, for example, of an alternating current generator 19 and a diode 20.
The use and operation of the described counter is as follows: The slide 11 is in the rest position according to FIG. 1. When the pulse switch 18 is closed, a current flows from the current source 17 via the switch 18, the contact springs 4a and 4b, the coil of the electromagnet 2 and back to the power source. The magnet 2 is excited and the armature 3 is attracted to the magnet 2. As a result, the pin 8 is forced to move away from the axis 5 of the roller 6.
The pin 8 presses against one of the outer sliding surfaces 9 a and slides outward on it, the roller 6 being given a rotation according to the arrow R in FIG. 2 until the pin reaches the one reversal point of the groove 9. If the switch 18 is opened, the magnet 2 is de-energized, which is why the spring 10 pivots the armature 3 back away from the magnet. The pin 8 moves
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
against the axis 5. of the roller 6 and slides along an inner sliding surface 9b, whereby the roller 6 is given a rotation in the direction of arrow R again.
In this way, the roller 6 has rotated in two half steps by a full rotation step so that the next digit of the roller is visible through a window in the meter housing. The processes described are repeated each time the pulse switch 18 is closed and opened.
Of course, any other means, known per se, could also be present in order to supply the meter with the electrical pulses required for rotating the roller 6.
If the slide 11 is pushed in against the influence of the spring 12, the middle contact spring 4b is lifted from the upper contact spring 4a, so that the first switch 4a, 4b is opened. At the same time, the second switch 4b, 4c closes in that the contact spring 4b rests on the lower contact spring 4c, provided that the cam 15 is not in the area of the contact spring 4b. The pulse generator 19, 20 now supplies a sequence of electrical pulses to the electromagnet 2 via the contact springs 4b and 4c, so that the roller 6 is automatically rotated in steps.
As soon as the cam 15 runs under the contact spring 4b, this is lifted off the lower contact spring 4c and the counter is thereby stopped in a predetermined rest position. The cam 15 can, for. B. be arranged such that in the predetermined rest position of the roller 6, the number 0 is visible in the window of the counter. However, by rotating the ring 16 with respect to the roller 6, the rest position of the roller 6 can be selected and adjusted as desired. As long as the slide 11 is pressed, the working circuit is separated from the circuit for automatic rotation in such a way that no repercussions on the working circuit are possible.
The contact spring 4a and 4b also do not come into contact with one another when the cam 15 lifts the contact spring 4b off the lower contact spring 4c, as can be seen in FIG. 2, so that creeping current paths to the working circuit are avoided.
So that the roller 6 according to FIGS. 1 and 2 comes to a standstill immediately after each half step and does not overshoot, there are sack-shaped recesses 9c at the reversal points of the groove 9, in which the pin 8 finds a firm stop. This measure can further increase the working speed. Similar stop recesses can be provided on a rib replacing the groove 9.
A sliding contact element (not shown) can be present on the roller 6, which cooperates with a ring of stationary contact blades, the number of which corresponds to that of the pulses required for a full rotation of the roller 6. With the help of the sliding contact element and the contact lamellas, it is then possible to detect the position of the roller at any time using electrical circuits and to use it for messages or control processes. The lead contact element can expediently be rotatable with respect to the rotor together with the cam 15.
By arranging the counter described several times, a counter for displaying several digits or units can be achieved. In this case, it is advisable to also attach a cam to the number reels, which generates a working impulse for rotating an adjacent number reel with the help of contact elements for the transfer of a unit of the next higher order.
In the embodiment of the stepping mechanism shown in FIG. 3, instead of the groove 9, there is a correspondingly shaped rib 29 on one axial end face of the number roller 26. The rib 29 is closed in itself and runs back and forth in a zigzag shape between two circles of different diameters.
The pin 8 of the first example is now replaced by a pusher with two pins 28, which are located on both sides of the rib 29 and by a pivotable arm, not shown in FIG. 3, on a movement path 30 that runs at least approximately radially to the axis 5 of the roller 26 are movable back and forth. If the pusher with the pins 28 moves against the axis 5, the outer pin 28 slides on an outer flank 29a of the rib 29, as a result of which the roller 26 is rotated by a half-step in the direction of the arrow R.
If the pusher then moves away from the axis 5, the inner pin 28 presses on one of the inner flanks 29b of the rib 29, which again results in a rotation of the roller 26 by a half-step in the direction of the arrow R.
In order to avoid overshooting of the roller 26 at the end of each half-step, sack-shaped recesses 29c are formed at the reversal points of the rib 29, in which the respectively working pin 28 finds a firm stop at the end of its movement, so that further rotation of the roller 26 is avoided .
In the third exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 4, the roller 26, similarly to the first example, has a zigzag-shaped groove 39 in which a pin 8 serving as a pusher engages. In contrast to the embodiment according to FIG. 2, the base of the groove 39 does not lie in one plane, but is composed of a sequence of inclined planes, all of which rise in the circumferential direction opposite to the arrow R and form steps 40 between them the depth of the groove 39 changes by leaps and bounds.
The steps 40 are located at the reversal points of the groove 39 and are each flush, d. H. perfectly aligned with the groove flanks 39a and 39b serving as sliding surfaces. The pin 8 is arranged sprung in the axial direction, in that the arm 7 is designed as a leaf spring which constantly presses the pin 8 with a slight pressure against the base of the groove 39.
If the pin 8 by means of the arm 7 is approximately radial

Moved back and forth to the roller 36, the roller experiences a rotation in the direction of the arrow R in FIG. 4.
One end of the pin 8 slides on one of the gently rising inclined planes of the groove base. At the moment when the pin 8 reaches a reversal point of the groove 39, it falls down one of the steps 40 under the influence of the resilient arm 7 to the next inclined plane of the groove base. This reliably prevents the roller 36 from bouncing backwards against the arrow R when the step 40 hits the pin 8.
The described design of the groove base has the further advantage that the direction of rotation of the roller 36 is clearly defined because rotation in the opposite direction is impossible by striking the steps 40 on the pin 8.
In an embodiment variant of FIG. 4, not shown, there are also sack-shaped recesses analogous to the recesses 9c in FIG. 2 at the reversal points of the groove 39.
All of the exemplary embodiments described could of course also be modified in such a way that the pusher 8 or 28 is stationary and the roller 6 or 26 is moved approximately radially.
The applications of the stepping mechanisms described are so manifold and easily recognizable by any person skilled in the art that they do not have to be discussed in more detail here.
The main advantages of the invention are: The numbers = or type roller 6 or 26 can be produced together with the inclined sliding surfaces of both rings in a relatively simple manner in one piece in a mold, which enables a low production price and a low weight of the rollers. Since the sliding surfaces are designed as flanks of a groove 9 or a rib 29 on an axial end face of the roller 6 or 26, it is possible to use a simple compression mold from which the finished roller can be ejected in the axial direction.
The at least approximately radial course of the movement path of the pusher that cooperates with the sliding surfaces in relation to the roller has the advantage in multi-roller counters that there must be a gap between the adjacent rollers of only a little more than the thickness of the arm carrying the pusher makes small overall axial dimensions of the counter possible.
Because the force exerted by the pusher on the sliding surfaces is essentially directed radially to the roller, the bearing of the latter does not present any difficulties, since no unfavorable tilting moments are exerted on the rotor, as would be the case with an axially parallel force.
