Le bromite de baryum présente un avantage in téressant car il est particulièrement stable à l'état solide et de ce fait, peut être conservé sans inconvé nient : des cristaux de bromite de baryum chauffés sous vide à 581, C pendant 3 heures; ne se décom posent pas;
Process for the production of alkaline earth bromites The main patent relates to the preparation of alkaline and alkaline earth bromites in concentrated solutions and in the solid state, the latter being obtained by crystallization from the concentrated solutions. A characteristic of the main patent relates specifically to the preparation of calino-earth al bromites by allowing an alkaline-earth hypobromite solution to evolve, the pH of which is at the higher the concentration of this solution is higher.
According to a process described in the main patent, it is advantageous to use generating solutions as concentrated as possible of calino-earth al hypobromite: in particular, for the preparation of barium bromite, a solution of hypobromite titrating 200-220 g of active bromine per liter, that is to say having a concentration close to saturation in barium hypobromite.
The successive operations necessary for the preparation of practically pure barium bromite can thus be summarized according to the above process - Evolution of the hypobromite solution. - Stopping of this evolution and stabilization.
- Elimination of unprocessed hypobromite. - Concentration.
- Cooling.
- Separation of the precipitated solid. - Recrystallization.
The object of the present addition is to improve the process for preparing an al calino-earth bromite, such as barium bromite, which makes it possible to considerably simplify the above procedure and to obtain a higher conversion rate. high hypobromite in.
bromite. This improvement consists in particular in replacing the initial hypobromite solutions by hypobromite suspensions. It has, in fact, been discovered 10) that the barium hypobromite exists in the solid state and has sufficient stability not to decompose instantaneously into bromate and bromide.
2ù) that the barium hypobromite suspended in its saturated aqueous solution can be transformed into bromite. 3) that the barium bromite thus formed precipitates from the solution during the evolution, which makes it possible to directly obtain a suspension of barium bromite.
To obtain the transformation of the barium hypobromite in d e good yield conditions, the initial pH of the suspension is adjusted to between about 10.5 and 11.5. </ B> As indicated in the main patent for the evolution of solutions, the rise in temperature increases the rate of transformation of the hypobromite. The temperature must, in addition,
the lower the pH value is in the range indicated. In practice, the operation is carried out at a temperature not exceeding ordinary temperature (about 25 C) and, preferably, in the vicinity of 00 C.
The transformation of barium hypobromite can be carried out in suspension of any concentration in solid, but it is advantageous to work with a suspension. relatively concentrated: by using, for example, an aqueous suspension containing about 28-30 g of barium hypobromite per 100 g of total mixture, interesting results both for the degree of conversion and for the composition are obtained. solid precipitated during evolution.
The use of hypobromite suspensions according to the process of the present addition has several interesting advantages over the method described above; it allows, in fact - a significant simplification of the operating mode, - an improvement in the rate of conversion of the hypobromite into bromite, - a significant reduction in the volume of solution required to prepare a given quantity of bromite.
The procedure used according to the process of the present addition can be summarized as follows - Evolution of the hypobromite suspension. - Stop this development and stabilize. - Separation of the precipitated solid. - Recrystallization. The simplification brought to the previous method is obvious since three operations are deleted.
In fact, the chemical elimination of the unprocessed hypobromite, the concentration and the cooling are no longer necessary since, after evolution, the barium bromite is present in the solid state while the unprocessed hypobromite is entirely in the dissolved state: a separation of the precipitate is therefore sufficient to isolate the impure bromite.
The composition of the latter is such that a direct recrystallization of the precipitate impregnated with mother water is sufficient to obtain crystals containing 97-98% of (BrO2) zBa.H ,, O. If for jobs. Subsequently the impurities of the bromite are not troublesome, the precipitate is simply washed to remove the impregnation mother liquor.
The new process also makes it possible to significantly improve the maximum conversion rate of hypobromite into bromite: by operating under the conditions indicated above, approximately 65% of the initial hypobromite is transformed while, according to the previous method,
the degree of conversion was about 55-57% relative to the hypobromite initially present in the solution.
In addition, the volume of solution required to prepare a given quantity of bromite is reduced twice as much since, on the one hand, the suspensions initially contain more hypobromite and, on the other hand, the degree of conversion is greater. Student. Thus, replacing a saturated hypobromite solution with a suspension containing 28 to 30 g of barium hypobromite per 100 g of mixture reduces the volume by approximately two thirds.
Barium bromite has an interesting advantage because it is particularly stable in the solid state and therefore can be stored without inconvenience: crystals of barium bromite heated under vacuum at 581 ° C. for 3 hours; do not decompose;
at 800 C, about 40% of the bromite initially present is decomposed in three hours. Under vacuum at 00, the composition of the crystallized solid hardly changes in six months. We. has on the other hand observed that the composition of a saturated solution of barium bromide, which contains approximately 130, - active bromine per liter, does not change. 3 months when stored in light and at room temperature.
An example of implementation of the process according to the present invention is given below, without implying any limitation. Example A suspension of barium hypobromite containing 28 is adjusted to pH 11.2. g of hypobromite per 100 g of mixture.
This suspension maintained at 0 @@ is allowed to evolve until the maximum of the degree of transformation which corresponds to 64% of the hypobromite reacted is reached; sufficient barite sufficient to raise the pH to 12.9 is then added to the resulting smooth suspension.
The suspension thus obtained is filtered and a solid impregnated with mother water is recovered having the following composition (BrO.) @ Ba = 30.7% (Br0), Ba = 0.8% (Br (::
.) 2Ba = 15.41% Br., Ba = 24.5% Ba (OH)., = 1.011 / o H., O = 27.6% The wet solid is recrystallized directly without washing. To carry out the recrystallization, a saturated aqueous solution at 0 @ # C is prepared using the wet solid.
By slow evaporation at around 30 ° C. and separation of the precipitate, very high barium brom.ite (BrO ..)., Ba.H .. 0 = 98.1% (Br0; 3) _Ba is obtained. H., O = 1.00! 0 Br., Ba = traces
