Bei diesem Verfahren verwendet man neue härtbare Kondensationsprodukte, die in Wasser löslich oder wenigstens darin ohne Dispergier- mittel leicht dispergierbar sind;
Process for the softening of textiles It is known that curable aminoplasts which contain higher molecular weight aliphatic hydrocarbon residues can be used in the textile industry as finishing, water repellent or softening agents. Suitable are e.g. B.
Condensation products of methylol melamines or ethers thereof and higher molecular weight aliphatic carboxylic acids. Such products are insoluble in water; they must therefore either be applied to the textiles in organic solvents or in the form of aqueous dispersions which have to be produced with suitable dispersants and protective colloids.
In order to make such higher molecular weight aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals containing amino plastics water-soluble, cation-active or anion-active groups capable of forming salts have also been introduced. These water-soluble products, which are very well suited for many applications, have the disadvantage that, because of their anion activity or cation activity, they cannot be used together with other textile application products at will.
The present invention now relates to a process for softening textiles by impregnating them with preparations of curable, non-ionic condensation products, drying and heat treatment.
In this process, new hardenable condensation products are used which are soluble in water or at least easily dispersible in water without a dispersant;
they are obtained if, in any order, a) methylol compounds of compounds of the aminotriazine or urea group or their ethers with low molecular weight alcohols or mixtures of the formation components for these methylol compounds or
the ethers thereof, b) aliphatic compounds which contain a carbon chain of at least 7 carbon atoms and an alkylolamide group, and c) compounds which are able to introduce atomic groups which increase the hydrophilicity in a non-ionic way, with one another, the proportions between the components being such it must be agreed that the end product has the required hardenability and solubility.
As formaldehyde condensation products of the aminotriazine group (component a), in principle all products can be used which contain at least two free methylol groups or at least two methylol groups etherified with a low molecular weight alcohol. Among these compounds, above all reaction products of formaldehyde and 2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-triazine, usually called melamine, may be mentioned.
Such condensation products can contain two to six methylol groups; they usually represent mixtures of different compounds. Furthermore, methylol compounds from those derivatives of melamine that contain at least one amino group, z.
B. methylol compounds of melam, melem, ammeline, Amme lid or of halogen-substituted aminotriazines, such as 2-chloro-4,6-diamino-1,3,5-triazine; also methylol compounds of guanamines, such as. B. of stearoguanamine, benzoguanamine, acetoguanamine or formoguanamine.
The ethers with low molecular weight alcohols which can also be used can be derived from the compounds mentioned and methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, propyl alcohols or butanols. For example, methyl ethers of methylol melamines with 3 to 6 methylol groups in which 3 to 6 methylol groups are etherified can be used.
The formaldehyde condensation products of the aminotriazine group can be used in a predominantly monomeric or partially condensed state. A suitable starting material is e.g. B. the water-soluble hexamethylolmelamine hexamethyl ether.
In principle, all products can be used as formaldehyde condensation products of the urea group for the purposes of the present invention, provided they have at least two free methylol groups or at least two methylol groups etherified with a low molecular weight alcohol.
Examples of compounds of the urea group that may be mentioned are urea, thiourea and compounds with the atomic grouping
EMI0002.0020
such as dicyandiamide, dicyandiamidine, guanidine, acetoguanidine or biguanide. A suitable starting material is z. B. the dimethylolurea.
Among the aliphatic compounds which have a carbon chain of at least 7 carbon atoms and which are used as reaction components under b), N-alkylene compounds, preferably N methylol or N ethylol compounds, of amides of fatty acids are particularly suitable Amides of stearic acid, preferably stearic acid-N-methylolamide and stearic acid-N-ethylolamide.
Compounds which serve as component c) and which are capable of introducing atom groupings which increase the hydrophilicity in a nonionic way are above all compounds with polyglycol ether chains or a plurality of hydroxyl groups, and in principle all compounds can be used for this purpose ,
which contain or can form several hydroxyl groups or polyglycol ether chains and can react with the methylol derivatives or their ethers. Aliphatic polyalcohols such as glycerol and polyoxycarboxylic acids such as glucuronic or galacturonic acids may be mentioned as compounds containing several hydroxyl groups.
As connections. keep the polyglycol ether chains and are able to introduce them. and which are preferably used, the di- and polyglycols are used in particular. It is preferred to use the commercially available types which have an average molecular weight of 200, 400, 600, 1000, 1500, 3000 or even more. Also derivatives of such Polvglvkolen, such as one-sided ethers or esters, z.
B. a polyglycol acetate, a polyglycol chloride or a polyglycol methyl ether or a glycerol etherified with 1 to 3 polyglycols can be used.
The low molecular weight aliphatic alkylene oxides, such as propylene oxide, butylene oxide, glycide and especially ethylene oxide, can be used as compounds capable of introducing several hydroxyl groups or polyglycol ether chains.
Instead of using individual compounds that were listed as reaction components under a), b) and c) for the production process, mixtures of several such compounds can of course also be used.
The preparation of the compounds to be used according to the invention can be carried out in such a way that the compounds mentioned under a) are first condensed with those mentioned under c) and the condensation product thus obtained is reacted with those mentioned under b), or that one first the components mentioned under a) and b) are combined and the product obtained is then reacted with the compounds mentioned under c), or further that the compounds mentioned under b) and c) are first condensed with one another and the condensation product then with the under a) above. Finally, it is also possible to implement all three components at the same time.
This latter procedure is particularly recommended when the component a) instead of the methylol compounds or their ether mixtures. their formation components are used and the methylol compounds or their ethers are formed in situ. The preferred procedure is that components b) and c) are combined first and that this binary condensation product is reacted with component a).
The individual reactions are expediently carried out under the conditions known for similar condensations. The components are advantageously at a higher temperature, preferably at temperatures above 80, for. B. at 100 to 200 implemented. The reactants can be fused in a simple manner, or they who set the in the presence of an inert solvent. It can be useful to carry out the reactions under reduced pressure and / or in an inert gas, e.g. B. in a stream of nitrogen.
The molar ratio between the components used depends primarily on the number of metholol or metholether greens in component a). In order for the condensation products to remain curable, the molar ratio between the components must in any case be chosen so
that at least one free methanol group or at least one methylene glycol etherified with a low molecular weight alcohol is present in the end product. Furthermore, the ratio of components b) and c) is to be coordinated with one another in such a way that the end product is soluble in water or at least easily dispersible therein without a dispersant.
As has been found, a smaller number of hydrophylic groups is generally sufficient if components b) and c) are first combined and this binary product is reacted with a) than if component a) is first reacted with component b) and then the condensation with component c) takes place. In the case of melamine derivatives as component a), per mole of methylolmelamine or
Methylolmelamineether preferably 2 to 3 mol of a fatty acid alkylolamide as component b) and 1 to 2 mol of a polyglycol with a molecular weight of about 100 to 600 as component c).
The products obtainable in this way are used in accordance with the invention as softeners for textiles.
For the treatment in aqueous solution, the customary impregnation processes known in the textile industry are used with advantage. After the impregnation and drying, curing is expediently carried out at higher temperatures, e.g. B. at 120 to 150. It is advantageous to use hardening catalysts as well. As such, the all common hardening catalysts such. B. acids such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid or formic acid, into consideration; there can also be salts of strong acids with weak bases, e.g.
B. ammonium salts of strong, inorganic and organic acids, such as ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate, ammonium oxalate or ammonium lactate, are used, and also metal salts such as zinc nitrate, aluminum sulfate or magnesium chloride. If solutions in organic solvents are used, those catalysts which are soluble in the organic solvents come into consideration, e.g. B. stronger organic acids, such as formic acid, acetic acid, chloroacetic acid or compounds which split off acids when heated.
Furthermore, it can be very advantageous, in addition to hardening, to better fix the impregnation on the material by treating it with crosslinking components. The polt 'functional compounds known in finishing technology, such as formaldehyde, di- and polyhydroxyl compounds, diisocyanates and their derivatives, among others, can be used as crosslinking components.
The plasticizers can be used alone or together with other substances, such as salts, in particular those of weak acids, for example sodium acetate, aluminum acetate, aluminum triformate, and also zirconium compounds, eg.
B. zirconium salts or sols of hydrated zirconium dioxide, also together with hydrocarbons such as paraffin, solvents, methylolamides, protective colloids, finishing or matting agents such as methylolureas, weighting agents, other plasticizers and the like, but these additives are used in such a way must be selected so that they do not cause any precipitation of the process products from the solutions.
The textile materials to be treated according to the invention can be in the form of loose fibers, yarns or fabrics. Ma materials made from cellulose esters such. B. acetate rayon, also those that are produced by polycondensation, such as polyamides and polyesters and finally those that are produced by polymerization, such as polyvinyl chloride or polyacrylic derivatives. Preferably, cellulosic textile materials are refined, z. B. those made of native or regenerated cellulose fibers, such as linen, cotton, rayon (viscose) or rayon.
The treatment of mixed fibers or mixed fabrics made from different synthetic fibers or from synthetic fibers and natural fibers should also be considered.
In the following production instructions and examples, the parts are parts by weight, unless otherwise noted; the ratio between parts by weight and parts by volume is the same as that between the kilogram and the liter. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
The preparation of some condensation products suitable for the present process is described below under A to Q.
A. By two hours of heating in a good water jet vacuum at 115 to 120, 66 g (2/10 mol) of stearic acid methylolamide with 36 g (1/10 mol) of hexamethylolmelamine hexamethyl ether are converted. The water-insoluble, waxy reaction product is then treated with 20 g (1/10 mol) of a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of 200 under the same condensation conditions as above for 14 hours.
He holds a water-dispersible, waxy product. The product is very soluble in hot water, while the solution has pearlescent precipitates when it is completely cold.
The hexamethylolmelamine hexamethyl ether can be obtained, for example, according to the information in French patent specification No. 1065 686, Example 1.
B. If the 66 g of stearic acid methylolamide are replaced by 68 g of N-methylol-octadecyl urethane, a water-soluble product with a waxy appearance is also obtained. C. If 30 g or 40 g each of a polyglycol with a molecular weight of 300 or 400 are used, then similar products are obtained which, however, show better solubility in water.
D. If you proceed according to A using 99 g (33 / 1o mol) of stearic acid methylolamide, 36 g (1 / 1o mol) of the same hexamethylolmelamine methyl ether and 60 g (/, 0 mol) of a polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 600, a soft, waxy condensation product is obtained which is clearly soluble in hot water.
E. It is heated in a water jet vacuum at 115 to 120 123 g (about 2/10 mol) of a water-soluble reaction product composed of 1 mol of stearic acid methylolamide and 1 mol of polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 300, which is known after Process can be prepared under acidic conditions, with 36 g (1/10 mol) of the hexamethylolmelamine methyl ether mentioned under A,
in this way one holds in turn a waxy mass of light brown color which is readily soluble in water.
F. Similar products with better or slightly lower solubility can be made with polyethylene glycols with a molecular weight of 200, 400 or 600. The 1% solutions of these products are opal solutions and some have a pearlescent sheen.
G. By condensing 60 g of polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 600, 36 g of the methylolmelamine methyl ether mentioned under A and 66 g of a boric acid-containing stearic acid methylolamide for 6 hours at 120 at a pressure of 15 mm Hg, one again obtains a hot one Water-clear soluble product with a waxy appearance.
H. If you proceed according to A by using 63 g (2/10 mol) of stearic acidethanolamide instead of the methylolamide mentioned, a water-soluble, waxy mass is again obtained.
A similar product is obtained with 77 g (2/10 mol) of behenic acid ethanolamide.
I. If one proceeds according to E, instead of the reaction product of the methylolamide and the polyethylene glycol, 96 g (2/10 mol) or 123 g (2/10 mol) of a reaction product of one mole of stearic acidethanolamide with 4 or 8 mol of ethylene oxide used, waxy masses are also obtained which are very soluble in water.
K. If you proceed according to A, D or H using 1 mole each of a polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 1000, 1540, 2000 and 6000 per mole of melamine derivative, soft, waxy masses of very good water solubility are obtained.
Completely analogous products can be produced with the above polyglycols according to E.
L. By condensation at 120 in the water jet vacuum of about 2/100 mol, namely 25 g, 45 g and 85 g of the reaction products of 1 mol of coconut fatty acid methylolamide and 1 mol of a polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 1000, 2000 and 4000 each with 3.6 g (1/100 mol) of the hexamethylol melamine methyl ether mentioned under A, it is considered to be very soft, waxy products with very good water solubility.
M. 90 g of a condensation product of stearic acid methylolamide and an etherification product containing about 3 methoxy groups from hexamethylolmelamine and methanol, prepared according to example 1 of Swiss patent number s 268 532, are mixed with 30 g of polyglycol with a molecular weight 300, as soon as everything has melted, heated to 115 to 120 for 6 hours with stirring at a pressure of 10 to 15 mm.
The viscous melt solidifies after cooling to a water-soluble, waxy mass.
N. It is heated for 3 hours in vacuo at 115 to 120 60 g (about 1/10 mol) of a water-soluble etherification product, prepared from 1 mol of stearic acid methyl'olamide and 1 mol of polyglycol with a molecular weight of 300 and 21 g (about i / 10 mol) of a methylol urea methyl ether,
which contains more than 2 moles of formaldehyde condensed per mole of urea. A water-soluble, waxy mass is obtained.
O. 300 g (1 mol) of stearic acid methylolamide and 106 g (1 mol) of diethylene glycol are stirred at 120 in the presence of 1.8 g of anhydrous sodium carbonate for 14 hours in a water jet vacuum of 40 to 50 mm Hg. A brittle, waxy mass of very light color is obtained, which can be easily dispersed in warm water.
The melt obtained is then stirred with 180 g (1/2 mol) of water-soluble hexamethylolmelamine hexamethyl ether for a further 6 hours under the above conditions. The violent boiling observed initially stops over time. The cooled reaction product is a light, somewhat soft, waxy mass which, after allowing it to swell for several hours, under very slow stirring at 60 ° with three times the amount of water, can be converted into a white, slightly colloidal paste. This can be further diluted by pouring hot water over it.
Similar products are obtained if one uses 150 g (1 mol) of triethylene glycol instead of diethylene glycol, or if one uses 360 g (about 1 mol) of behenic acid methylolamide with 150 g (1 mol) of triethylene glycol or with 200 g (about 1 mol) of a tetraalkylene glycol and reacted with 180 g (1/2 mol) of the above melamine compound.
P. A mixture of 39 g (1/10 mol) of a highly methylated hexamethylolmelamine and 35 g (1/10 mol) methoxyheptaethylene glycol are heated to 120 for 4 hours in a water jet vacuum of 30 to 40 mm with stirring. 70.4 g of a colorless, water-soluble resin composition are obtained, which is then condensed with 60 g (2/10 mol) of stearic acid methylolamide under the same conditions in vacuo at 120 for 16 hours.
A water-soluble, waxy mass is obtained.
Q. Proceed as indicated under A, but instead of the one mentioned. 20 g (1/0 mol) of a polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 200 41 g (about 1/10 mol) of an octaethylene glycol monochloride are used, in turn a water-soluble, waxy mass is obtained.
Example 1 Cotton poplin or viscose crepe are made on a padder in aqueous baths containing 2.5 g / 1 to 5 g / l of a 50% aqueous paste of the preparations according to A, B, C, D , E, F, G, H, 1, M, N, O, P or Q and 4 to 6 g / 1 ammonium chloride contained, treated, and squeezed off to about 100% weight gain. The fabrics are then dried and then subjected to a heat treatment at 140 for 5 minutes.
Pieces of tissue are obtained with a good, soft hand, which even after washing (1/1 hour at 90 in a bath) contains 2 μl of the disodium salt of 2 - heptadecyl - N - benzylbenzimidazole disulfonic acid and 0.5 μl of 25% strength Contains ammonia) is still present.
Example 2 If you work with 50% aqueous pastes of preparations K or L as in Example 1, you also get a soft handle, but a not as strongly hydrophobic handle finish as in Example 1.
