A l'examen,
The present invention relates to an apparatus for inductively heating an elongated workpiece to according to several variable or uniform temperature ranges, this apparatus making it possible to heat workpieces of various types and shapes.
In order to obtain either uniform or variable temperature ranges on the surface of a workpiece to be machined, it has usually been considered necessary to prepare a heating coil to </ B> solenoid having a particular diameter and length and a variable spacing between turns. For example, if you wanted to produce variable heating ranges over the length of a workpiece of constant cross section, or uniform heating ranges over the surface of a workpiece When machining of variable cross section, the pitch and / or the diameter of the coil was varied along its length in order to obtain the desired result. It was usually necessary to build a coil and observe the resulting heating ranges.
The desired ranges were obtained only after several successive modifications of the coil; and, in general, the resulting reel was unsatisfactory for other charges. Thus, each new part to machine required a new model of heating coil, and, since no two types of parts to be machined are identical, one A specific coil model was needed for each job.
The object of the present invention is to avoid the aforementioned drawbacks and the apparatus which is the subject thereof comprises a first reel divided into several separate reel sections and provided with a central passage for receiving the part to machine and is characterized in that it comprises a second coil also divided into several separate coil sections connected in parallel to the corresponding sections of the first coil, said second coil also having a central passage, and a member elongated control switch arranged so to modify the impedances of the different sections of the second coil according to the heating ranges to obtained on the part to </ B > machining, this member being placed in the central passage of the second coil,
the whole being arranged so that said control member gives to each section of said second coil an impedance such that the current in the corresponding section of said first coil produces a heating range determined on the corresponding part of the workpiece to be machined.
The appended drawing represents, to by way of example, three embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 represents an embodiment of the invention in which several variable heating ranges are produced on a workpiece of variable thickness by means of a low resistivity control member arranged in a control coil.
Fig. 2 shows another embodiment of the invention in which the heating ranges of FIG. 1 are again produced in a workpiece of varying thickness, but in this case a control member of a magnetic material is arranged in the control coil.
Fig. 3 represents yet another embodiment of the invention in which a uniform heating range is produced over the surface of a workpiece of varying outside diameter by means of a control member of a conductive material with low resistivity arranged in the control coil.
Referring to in fig. 1, there y is shown a heating coil 10 and a control coil 12 which, for purposes of explanation, have the same length, diameter and pitch, than the heating coil 10. The two coils 10 and 12 are connected in parallel to a current source alternative 14, as shown. Connected in shunt with source 14, there is a usual 16 power factor correction capacitor. The 10 coil is provided with A to 1 sockets which are connected to corresponding points A ' and l ' on the control coil 12. In this way, each coil is divided into short successive sections, the corresponding sections of the two coils being connected in parallel.
Arranged in the heating coil 10 is a part to be machined 18, and in the control coil 12 there is a control member 20 which can be electrically conductive or be made of magnetic material and the shape of which depends on the desired heating ranges in the part to be machined 18. In fig. 1, the control member 20 is made of a conductive material with low resistivity, such as copper.
The workpiece to be machined 18 and the actuator 20 may remain stationary in their respective coils during a heating operation, or they may be gradually brought to through the coil sections, for example by means of hydraulic cylinders 22 and 24 which are connected to the ends of the workpiece and of the actuator via fasteners 24 and 26 respectively.
It is obvious that when a voltage is applied to the two coils, the current will divide according to the ratio between the impedances of the different coil sections. Thus, between the left end of the coil 12 and the socket B ', the part 28 of the control member 20 has a large cross-sectional area. Since it is a low resistivity conductive material, the impedance of this section of coil 12 will drop so that more of the current will be diverted into the control coil. 12. between its left end and socket B, and the heating depth produced in the workpiece to between its left end and socket B will be relatively small.
Between taps B 'and D', the cross-sectional area of the actuator 20 decreases, as seen at 30. Consequently, the impedance of the section of the coil 12 between the taps C ' and D' increases so that a greater proportion of the current is diverted to the section of the coil 10 between taps B and D to increase the heating depth in this portion of the part to machine 18. Between taps D ' and F', however, the cross-sectional area of the actuator 20 increases again, as seen at 32, so that the depth of heating between taps D and F on coil 10 decreases.
Between the taps F 'and G', the cross-sectional area of the control member 20 is very small, as seen at 34, so that the heating depth between taps F and G on heating coil 10 increases again. Finally, between the tap G 'and the right end of the coil 12, the cross-sectional area of the conductive material at low resistivity increases, as seen in 35, < / B> to reduce the heating depth on the workpiece to be machined between the socket G and the right end of the heating coil 10. </ B> Of course, it is not necessary for the control member 20 to be entirely of the same material or of the same diameter.
Thus, the material between the left end of the coil 12 and the tap B 'could be a low resistivity material to reduce the impedance of this section; while the one between taps B 'and D' could be a magnetic material to increase the impedance of this section to a maximum and produce a maximum depth of heating between taps B and D on the heating coil 10. Also, a high resistivity material may be used between some taps, which will produce a heating depth between that produced by the material with low resistivity and that produced by the magnetic material. A the examination,
it will be appreciated that a large number of combinations of low resistivity or high resistivity materials and / or magnetic materials can be used to obtain the heating ranges desired in the workpiece.
Although the length, diameter and pitch of the control coil are the same as those of the heating coil for the embodiment of fig. 1, the pitch, diameter, length and other peculiarities of the control coil could be different, the only requirement being that the apparatus be constructed to produce the correct impedances at through the various sections of the control coil to achieve the appropriate heating ranges in the workpiece to be machined 18. The pitch of the coil 12 may vary over its length as long as the exact heating ranges are produced in the workpiece.
Further, the actuator 20 may be in one piece as shown or may have separate pieces of iron or copper, for example, which are placed in the actuator coil 12, in order to achieve the desired heating ranges. .
In fig. 2, another embodiment of the invention is shown which again comprises the heating coil 10 and the control coil 12, both of which are divided into sections connected in parallel. In this case, however, the control member 20 is entirely of magnetic material so that its profile is reversed with respect to to that of the control member of FIG. 1 which was formed of conductive material with low resistivity.
Thus, between the left end of the coil 12 and the socket B ', the diameter of the magnetic material is reduced to reduce the impedance of the control coil between the left end and tap B 'so that a larger portion of the current will be diverted to through this section of the control coil and a relatively shallow heating range will occur in the room to machine 18 between the left end of the heating coil and socket B.
Between tap B 'and tap D' on the control coil, the diameter of the magnetic material increases so that the impedance of this section of the control coil increases to increase the depth of heating between taps B and D on the heating coil 10. Between taps D ' and F', the diameter of the magnetic material of load 20 decreases to reduce the heating depth in that section of the workpiece to machine 18, and so on.
S iu fig. 3, another embodiment of the invention is shown which again comprises the heating coil 10 and the control coil 12. In this case, however , the workpiece has a variable cross section along its length, while the actuator 20 is formed of a conductive material with low resistivity.
Assume that one wishes to produce a uniform heating range over the entire length of the workpiece to machine 18. Therefore, between the left end of the control 12 and the socket A ', the diameter of the control member 20 is small to increase the magnetic field the impedance between this end section. From Left this <RTI
ID = "0003.0016"> way 'of the heating coil 10 and the socket A will increase to satisfy the reduced diameter section of the workpiece to </ B > machine. Between taps A ' and D', the diameter of the control member is larger to reduce the impedance of the control coil between these taps and thus reduce the strength of the magnetic field between the A and D taps on the heating coil 10. Therefore, although the diameter of the workpiece to Machine 18 is large between the sockets A and D, the depth of heating on this section will be the same as that on the section between the left end of the spool and the A socket,
because a greater proportion of the current has been shunted through through the control coil between taps A ' and D'. < / B> Between the taps E ' and H' of the control coil, the diameter of the control member 20 is again small to increase the impedance in the control coil between these points and diverting a greater proportion of the current to the heating coil between the D and H taps of the heating coil. This, of course, will increase the strength of the magnetic field between the aforementioned taps of the heating coil to produce the desired depth of heating on the to reduced diameter portion of the workpiece to </ B> machine between points D and H.
As will easily be understood, given that the diameter of the workpiece to be machined is large between the taps H and 1 on the heating coil 10, the diameter of the control member is also large between the taps H 'and l' of the control coil. Similarly, the diameter of the workpiece and that of the control member decreases between the taps 1 and the and the ends of the respective coils.
Of course, the control member 20 could be made of a magnetic material instead of a low resistivity conductive material, in which case the shape of the controller 20 will be. exactly the opposite from that of the workpiece to obtain a uniform heating range over the entire length of the workpiece .
The workpiece to be machined 18 and the actuator 20 can be moved at equal speeds in the coils 10, </ B > 12 respectively; however, if the workpiece and the actuator are the same length, they should preferably enter the respective coils simultaneously.
