Fig. 6 is a horizontal sectional view taken along line 6-6 of FIG. 5.
In the embodiment shown, the main parts, well known, are shown schematically in terms of operation. The machine shows a frame 10 carried by a support 11. A rotating mold 12 is mounted on the frame in a known manner, that is to say that rotating elastic supports in the form of damping wheels 13 are mounted. in a position such that the mold can rest directly on these wheels 13. The damping wheels can be idle wheels arranged in pairs spaced from one another along the mold, except for a pair which serves as driving wheels.
The axes of the damping wheels are substantially parallel to the axis of the mold 12.
The machine comprises a vibrator generally composed of a vibrating head 14, a support 15 for fixing the vibrating head on the frame, a motor 16 for exciting the vibrating head and a positive adjustment device. 17 to raise the vibrating head in contact with the mold when it is desired to activate it to lower it out of contact when the operation is completed.
Given the mechanism of the vibrating head, the electric motor 16 can rotate at the speed of 3500 revolutions / minute. A flexible shaft 19 is coupled at 20 to the shaft 21 of the motor.
Support 15 includes spaced apart parallel plates 22 and 23 secured in position by means of clips 24. At one end of each plate is a bracket 25 provided with a clamping flange 26 for securing a socket 27 in place. For greater convenience and compactness, the console and the clamping flange can be mounted so as to fix the sleeve 27 around an extension 28 of the same shaft used to mount the neighboring damping wheels 13. Mounted as described, the plates are able to pivot about the extension 28 as the center of rotation.
To mount the vibrating head 14 on the support 15, this head is provided with an arm 29 which extends between the plates 22 and 23.
On the opposite sides of the arm 29 remote from the vibrating head are sleeves 30 and 31, respectively mounted on flanges 32 and 33 fixed to the arm 39 by means of bolts 34. On the plates 22 and 23 are respectively mounted short lengths. tubes 35 and 36. Similarly, flanges 37 and 38 for the tubes 35 and 36 are fixed by bolts 39 to one of the neighboring plates 22 or 23. Elastic bushings 40 and 41 in the form of rings are interposed between the sleeves 30 and 31 and the tubes 35 and 36.
In each case, the sleeve is fixed to the metal elements so that when the sleeve moves relative to the tube under the effect of vibration, the vibration is absorbed by the elastic sleeves and prevented from passing from a metal element to the other.
The vibrating head 14 comprises a part 45 hollowed out of a chamber 46. A bearing holder 47 fixed to the part 45 by means of cap screws 45 'also serves as a closing element for the chamber 46. In the chamber 46. there is an eccentric drive shaft 48 and an eccentric countershaft 49 (Fig. 6). Bearings 50 mounted in the bearing holder 47 and in a side wall 51 of part 45 support shafts 48 and 49. On the eccentric drive shaft 48 there is a single eccentric weight 52, the shape of which is more easily visible in fig. 5.
To impart rotation to the eccentric drive shaft, a flexible shaft is provided with a cable 53 fixed to the eccentric drive shaft by means of a key 54. A flexible envelope 55 of the flexible shaft is attached by a fit 56 to a coupling plate 57. In turn, the coupling plate is attached to the side wall 51 by screws 58.
The rotation of the eccentric drive shaft 48 is transmitted to the eccentric counter-shaft 49 by a spur gear 60 wedged on the shaft 48 by means of a key 61 in a position where it meshes with a toothed gear. straight line 62 wedged on the eccentric countershaft 49 by means of a key 63. Spur gears have the same diameter so that the gear ratio is one, and the eccentric shafts turn at the same speed.
Two eccentric weights 64 and 65 are mounted on the eccentric countershaft. These weights are spaced apart a sufficient distance to allow weight 52 to pass between them. Further, weights 64 and 65 are equal and their total weight is equal to weight 52 so that there is a perfect balance between the eccentric drive shaft and the eccentric countershaft.
The flexible shaft 19 follows a short and direct path between the motor 16 and the vibrating head 14. For this, an opening 70 formed through the extension 28 and a sleeve 71 introduced therein, allows the passage of the. flexible shaft 19. Similarly, the sleeve 27 is provided on each side with an opening 72 in alignment with the opening 70. The flexible shaft 19 extends between the plates 22 and 23, and to be able to mount it in alignment. Exact with the eccentric drive shaft, the man chon 30 is provided with a recess 75 slightly larger than the largest diameter of the flexible shaft.
In fig. 1, the vibrating head is shown in the inactive position out of contact with the mold 12. To move the vibrating head upwards so that a hammer 76 is lifted to contact the lower part of the mold, the adjuster 17 is put into action. This adjustment device comprises a hydraulic cylinder 77 pivoting at its lower end on a bracket 78 in turn carried by a hollow shaft 79. Shaft supports 80 secure the hollow shaft to the support 11. A piston rod 81 forming part. of the hydraulic cylinder extends upward and is pivotally fixed by means of a pin 82 to tabs 83 on the plates 22 and 23.
The hydraulic cylinder supply ducts 77 are not shown.
In operation, when a mold is to be vibrated during the deposition of wet concrete therein, the mold is first placed on the frame, fixed in the usual way and brought to be supported by the damping wheels 13. After the mold has started to rotate and the wet concrete is ready to be deposited, the hammer 76 is brought into contact with the outside of the mold, at its lowest point, by means of the adjusting device 17, by the 'intermediate hydraulic cylinder 77.
When the fluid reaches the cylinder, the piston 81 lifts the plates 22 and 23 and these in turn lifts the hammer 76 through the arm 29. After the hammer has been brought into contact with the mold 12, the motor 16 can be started. Subsequently, with the motor running at high speed, the cable 53 rotates the eccentric drive shaft 48 and the eccentric countershaft 49 rapidly and at the same speed.
The weight 52 on the eccentric drive shaft 48 and the weights 64 and 65 on the eccentric shaft 49 rotate, but in opposite directions, the plates balancing in a horizontal direction but adding their forces to each other. the other in a vertical direction. Operating in this way, all the vibrational energy is directed up and down and not sideways, thus obtaining a high frequency sufficient to vibrate the wet concrete deposited in the mold. Depending on the length of the mold, one, two or more of the same devices may be employed at spaced distances along the length of the mold. Only one device has been described. The others are the same regardless of their number.
When more than one device is used, each is connected to the same source of hydraulic power so that all hammers are lifted simultaneously and subjected to the same hydraulic pressure.
