<B> Roller vibrator </B> The present invention relates to a roller vibrator.
In a vibrator roller self-propelled by a motor located on the roller frame, it has been found that it is possible to use the motor to drive both the vibrator shaft producing the vibration of the cylinder and to provide the propulsion of the cylinder. 'gear. It should be noted that in this type of roller, as a result of the vibration, the distance between the axes of the cylinder and the power source, that is to say the motor or a reduction box as appropriate, does not not remain constant as in normal training.
There is a relative displacement due to the elastic mounting of the cylinder and the vibrator shaft, the purpose of which is to prevent the vibration from being transmitted to the roller frame to a sufficient degree to be unbearable to the roller. operator.
Numerous devices have already been proposed for tensioning a transmission chain, in which tension rollers are used and, in this regard, it is known practice to use two teneur rollers movable integrally with one another, these two rollers engaging with the same side of the chain, and each separately engaging and deflecting one of the two strands of the chain.
But a device of this kind cannot function satisfactorily when the lengths of the strands of the chain between the leading and driven pins undergo continual variations as a result of the displacement of one of the axes of rotation, which is the case. for transmission members ensuring the propulsion of certain rollers, for example the compressor roller described in patent No. 287149.
The main object of the invention is to provide a vibrator roller .comprising a pulley and pinion drive device which is capable of transmitting the necessary torque under all load conditions, while suppressing the vibration of the chain it -even.
The vibrator roller object of the invention comprises a frame resiliently carrying a cylinder and a vibrator shaft intended to produce the vibration of this cylinder, and means for propelling the roller comprising a chain drive device connecting a mounted slider pinion. on the chassis and a trailing pinion actuating the cylinder.
It is characterized in that it comprises two wheel tensioners each acting on a free length of the chain at a point located between said pinions and pushes each by spring means arranged so that the two tensioners can move. independently of each other in order to trap a slack in the free lengths of the chain which occurs when the direction of rotation of the cylinder is reversed, and to allow the vibration of the driven pinion relative to the driving pinion .
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the roller according to the invention and variants.
Fig. 1 is a vertical view of the first embodiment.
Fig. 1a is a vertical section of the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, by the axis of the vibrator cylinder.
The fi-. 2 is an elevation of the second embodiment.
Fig. 2a is a plan view of the embodiment shown in FIG. 2.
Fig. 3 shows a variant of the tensioners. Fig. 4 shows another variant of the contents.
In the first embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 1, only the essential parts of the vibrator roller are shown. The roller comprises a main frame F, a vibrator cylinder R, a main motor shaft D which can be driven directly by a motor, and a cross member H of the main frame.
The vibrator cylinder R is suspended by rubber blocks working in shear, these blocks being fixed to vertical faces formed by plates, respectively on the main frame F and on rocket bearings in which the cylinder R and the vibrator shaft are rotatably mounted.
Suspension can be provided by a single annular rubber block. In other embodiments, there may be several blocks assembled to form a ring. The suspension may also include a coil spring or other form, or a spring and rubber or other resilient material to form a shock absorber. We see in fig. 1 a that the motor is used to drive a vibrator shaft S and the cylinder R, so that the operator, under normal working conditions, is not called upon to exert pressure or jitter himself. tion using the roller.
It is understood that the motor can be used to drive the vibrator cylinder and the vibrator shaft either separately or together.
An E motor is coupled directly to a gearbox 100 allowing reverse gear. An output shaft of the box, 101, is keyed to a drive pinion <B> SI. </B> The drive pinion SI on the main drive shaft D is coupled by an extendable chain drive device to a pinion S2 fixed on the cylinder R by a flange 105 integral with an end disk 106 of the cylinder. As will be explained later, the chain drive device must be able to extend and retract to allow relative movement of the axes of the motor shaft D and the vibrator shaft S.
The cylinder R is mounted to rotate around the unbalanced shaft S on bearings mounted in housings 110, which are themselves mounted on journals 111 forming the axes of the cylinder. These axes rotate in flexibly mounted bushes B, B '. The two bushings B, B 'and the cooperating parts fixed to the frame of the roller have surfaces on which elastic blocks 113 are fixed, these surfaces being in vertical parallel planes.
These surfaces are formed by flanges 112 integral with the sockets B, B 'and by annular discs 114 fixed to the frame F, the blocks 113 being mounted so as to work in shear between the vertical flanges 112 and the discs 114. These elastic blocks reduce the vibration transmitted from the cylinder to the frame.
Bushings 115 extending inwardly are fixed to the frame F below the flexible blocks 113, these bushes carrying rollers 116. These are lined with rubber and function as shock absorbers cooperating with tracks which consist of internal faces 117, annu lar flanges 105 on the end discs of the roller. When the required traction force is high, the traction on the chain causes the frame to descend relative to the cylinder R and the dampers prevent this movement from taking an amplitude exceeding a determined value.
A much more flexible assembly is thus obtained than if one only used the single rubber shear working.
The chain drive device essentially comprises the driving pinion <I> SI </I> on the main motor shaft <I> D, </I> and a chain C intended to transmit: the movement to the second pinion S2 by which the cylinder R is dragged, directly as in the example shown, or indirectly. Pinion S2 is attached to one of the end plates of cylinder R and may take the form of a toothed ring.
In practice, it has been found preferable to use a simple chain whose links are joined to each other by pins, and not a chain with rollers, the latter tending to constantly rotate around their axes owing to the vibration of the roller. cylinder. The chain normally turns counterclockwise (fig. 1). If the direction of the roller is reversed, the <I> SI </I> sprocket is driven in a clockwise direction and, consequently, instead of chain slack. produced on the left side, this left side of the free length of the chain is stretched and it is the right side which has slack.
It should be noted that as a result of the vibration of the cylinder R, the axis of rotation of the cylinder takes up an upward and downward movement, which is shown in FIG. 1 by the references OI and 02. Consequently, when the lower chain sprocket S2 vibrates, both sides of the chain C must be tensioned in order to allow this vibration. This is achieved by means of wheel tensioners 1 and 2 each comprising a pinion constantly meshing with one of the free lengths of the chain and engaging on the same side thereof. Each tensioner is mounted on a lever arm, the two arms being controlled independently and urged so as to exert pressure on the chain under the action of springs.
Two-arm levers are used which can move angularly around fixed centers 3, 3 'on the frame F of the machine. The lower arm 4 carries a bearing for mounting the wheel tensioner and the upper arm 5 ends in a fork to receive a journal 7 forming a block with a shoulder piece 8. Each piece 8 is drilled to receive a guide rod. 9, the other end of which is fixed to a flanged head 10 having a spherical face 11. The latter is housed in a spherical seat 12 formed in a rubber cup 13.
Between the flange of the head 10 and a shoulder of the part 8 is housed an external coil spring 14, the compression of which is sufficient to exert the desired thrust by means of the lever arms 4, 5 to keep the corresponding tensioner against the free length of the chain.
A second, inner spring 15 is mounted on the rod 9 and functions mainly as a stopper or buffer when the outer spring is compressed due to a tension which builds up in the tensioned side of the chain, which is the right side: in fig. 1.
It can therefore be seen that with regard to the right side of the chain, the vibration of the cylinder, that is to say the reciprocating vertical movement of its axis, becomes possible, thanks to the compression of the outer and inner springs, while on the relaxed side, on the left, chain tension under cylinder vibration is enabled by compression of the outer spring only.
It is evident that by reversing the direction of traction of the roller, when the <I> SI </I> pinion rotates in the direction of clockwise movement, the relative positions of the two pulley tensioners are reversed.
The two: rubber cups 13 are carried in an adjustable manner by a console 17 in two parts, fixed by bolts 18 to: the cross member H of the frame, the two parts of. the console being fixed to one another by screws 19. In the console 17 is provided a tubular housing 20 fixed so as to receive sockets 21 each having one end 22 in the form of a flange and in which are housed rubber cups 13. It has been found advantageous in practice to reduce the size and weight of the two lever arms 5 to a minimum and to use wheel tenants to reduce noise.
Figs. 2 and 2a show the second embodiment which is a tandem roller in which the vibrator element is arranged at the rear, fixed to a frame C on which is also fixed a seat T for the driver. Steering is provided by a steering wheel H and by a front cylinder RI suspended rigidly from a lower frame U.
The construction of the vibrator element at the rear remains identical to that shown in fig. 1 and 1a, the only difference being that a handle, not shown, intended for the steering of the cylinder, is replaced by the frame C por as the front steering cylinder. The tandem roller includes dual controls; exerted by means of reversing levers 50 and 51 and speed change levers 50 'and 51', respectively arranged on each side of the .roll.
The advantage of this arrangement is that the driver, who has a swivel seat, can lean on one side when he steers the roller and has the necessary control levers regardless of the side. where it leans. Thus, whatever the gear engaged, complete control of the forward and reverse movement is possible by the reversing levers 50 and 50 ', and the machine responds to these levers by stopping slowly and starting again in the opposite direction using tensioners 1 and 2.
During this change of direction, the chain stops for a moment while the two sprockets exchange their function, the right side (fig. 2) of the chain becoming the tensioned side and the left side the relaxed side.
Fig. 3 shows a variant of the tensioners. The wheel tensioners are each carried by a piston 30 slidably mounted in a guide sleeve 31, the piston sliding freely against the force exerted by a coil spring 32 which has sufficient tension to keep the chain still tight. In order to adjust the force exerted by the spring 32, the sleeve has at one end a screwed collar 33, the inside of this collar forming a guide for a part 34 integral with the piston 30. A split tubular housing 36 is provided for the sleeve 31 so as to allow its position to be adjusted by releasing the clamping screws 37.
In another variant shown in FIG. 4, the wheel tensioner is carried by an oscillating arm 40 suspended from parallel links 41 articulated at fixed points 42 on the frame of the roller. A coil spring 43 urges the wheel in the direction of taking up chain slack. In addition, a second internal spring 44 constitutes a stopper similar to the spring 15 of FIGS. 1 and 2.
It has been found that such a chain transmission device fulfills the following conditions 1) The drive device being elastically extendable, it eliminates the transmission of vibrations from the trailing pinion to the driving pinion.
2) When the drive is done in either direction, the taut end and the loose end of the chain are subjected to a tension which prevents these strands from resonating with the cylinder, and which also prevents the slamming of the chain on the sprockets. Both chain ends are always under tension, the taut end being under greater tension than the loose end.
3) There is automatic compensation for any variation in distance between the axes of the drive and driven pinions, together with the possibility of reversing the two pinions.
4) The drive device acts as a shock absorber for sudden starts and reversals. It becomes possible to reverse the direction of machine drive, at low or high speed, simply by using the reversing lever. This is of particular interest in a tandem roller, since by providing two reversing levers, one accessible to the right and the other to the left of the driver's seat, it is possible for the latter to drive the ma chine on both sides along a determined line, for example a curve.
