Description

Hollow body made of thermoplastic material and process for its manufacture
It is known, for the production of hollow bodies made of thermoplastic material, to draw a tube made of this material in the plastic state into a mold, to close it and finally to inflate it against the inner wall of the mold. It is customary here either to introduce the tube into the mold in the slightly inflated state or to begin inflating only after the multi-part mold has been completely closed. According to this process, it is generally not possible to produce such hollow bodies which should have only a small wall thickness in relation to their large content, as is particularly desirable for hollow bodies which are to be used as insert containers.

The present invention relates to a hollow body made of thermoplastic material and having a capacity of more than 2 liters, which is characterized by a wall thickness of 0.05 to 2 mm.

The thermoplastic can contain dyes, pigments, plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants and the like.

The invention also relates to a method for producing such hollow bodies from thermoplastic material, which is introduced into a mold in the form of a tube closed at one end and pressed against the mold walls in a plastic state by overpressure or underpressure. According to the invention, the method is characterized in that one end of a hose made of thermoplastic material in the state plasticized by the action of heat is closed by central gathering or by an outwardly curved seam and, after being inserted into a one-piece, lockable mold, there by inflating from the inside or sucking in is brought into the final shape on the outside. After inflation, the hollow body is removed from the mold. By this method, hollow bodies of z.

   B. produce 100 liters content.

In particular when using large molds that consume a lot of heat, inflation with heated, shaping media, e.g. B.

Steam, liquids, etc. are advantageous. If necessary, in this variant, the hollow body must be cooled before it is removed from the mold.

It is also possible to press the plastic against the walls of the mold with expediently heated liquids when carrying out the method according to the invention. The closure of the hose end in question by centering it together is expediently completed by subsequent welding.

As a result of the outwardly curved seam or the gathering closure of the relevant end of the plasticized tubular structure before it is introduced into the mold, it is achieved that the plastic lies smoothly everywhere on the inner wall of the mold. There are no protruding ends or pockets at any point. This makes it possible to use one-piece molds in the method according to the invention, which is particularly advantageous in the production of hollow bodies which exceed the previously generally used size of 2 liters. For example, hollow bodies with a capacity of 100 liters can be produced without difficulty.

Both cold and warm molds can be used in the method according to the invention. For economic reasons, however, cold forms are preferred.

All thermoplastics such as polyvinyl chloride, polyamides and especially polyolefins, e.g. B. polyethylene.

It is advantageous to manufacture the plastic hose with the aid of a screw injection molding machine.

The hollow bodies according to the invention can be used as packaging material, as inner lining or preferably as replaceable insert containers for vessels made of metal, wood or other materials.
