Rail nail with loop-shaped curved nail head The invention relates to a resilient rail nail, also called a spring nail, with two nail shafts and a nail head connecting the two, the axis of which follows a loop-shaped curved spatial curve. Nails of this type have particular advantages for fastening rails to concrete sleepers, since they only need a hole in the concrete sleeper for their own fastening. The attachment of the nails themselves is done in the known manner.
The nail is driven into the threshold holes until the contact pressure permissible for the nail shaft is reached.
The size of the contact pressure is decisive for the safety of the rail fastening. The size of the spring travel results from the condition that, when the rail is subjected to intermittent loading, brief changes in position between the rail base and sleeper or between the rail base and nail head must not significantly reduce the contact pressure. Since, according to practical experience, changes in position of the order of magnitude of 1 mm can occur, a spring deflection of around 10 mm and more is usually required.
In solving the problem of achieving the highest possible contact pressure for a spring nail with a given spring deflection, it must be assumed that the diameter of the nail and the length of the head and thus the weight of the nail should be as small as possible for economic reasons , quite apart from the fact that the length of the head is limited for structural reasons.
The solution to the problem of achieving the highest possible contact pressure with a given diameter, practically given length of the nail head and given spring deflection, can only follow in the direction of the shape of the nail head, that is, such a shape can be found in the maximum amount of spring work can be taken from the nail head without disadvantages for the nail.
In the case of rail nails with a bow-shaped nail head, this is subjected to bending and torsion at the same time due to the contact pressure. This is desirable in and of itself, since each cross-section can withstand bending stresses, ie tensile and compressive stresses, and torsional stresses, ie shear stresses.
The simultaneous loading of the cross-sections on tension, compression and thrust gives the possibility of increasing the spring work absorbed by the nail, i.e. the deformation work and thus also the contact pressure that can be achieved with the nail.
The known nails of the type described, however, do not have such a shape that the contact pressure can be significantly increased due to the additional torsional stress. In some known nails, the shape of the axis of the nail head is even such that the additional torsional stress is limited to small parts of the volume of the nail head. This leads to a very high local stress, which requires a reduction in the contact pressure if nail breakage is to be avoided.
In and of itself, it is known to nails with rails with a shaft and with a curved nail head to make this so that the entire volume of the nail head is claimed to be torsion. The known proposal provides for the plane receiving the axis of the nail head to be parallel to the rail center plane, that is, to make the angle between said plane and the axis of the nail shaft equal to zero and to let the nail arm itself protrude approximately perpendicularly from this plane.
Such a solution does not result in the greatest possible contact pressure, since the shape described reduces the fatigue strength of the nail and this also causes a reduction in the contact pressure.
The aim of the invention is to design the axis of the nail head, which runs along a loop-shaped curved space curve, in such a way that a maximum contact pressure with optimum fatigue strength is achieved with the least amount of material and a prescribed spring deflection. In order to obtain an optimal value for contact pressure and fatigue strength, the shape of the axis of the nail head should largely take the following requirements into account: 1. The permanent elongation after the initial relief of the nail should not exceed 10 / o of the spring travel.
2. The bending energy should be 1.3 to 1.5 times the torsional energy in order to take into account the various values of the torsional and bending fatigue strength.
3. The total maximum bending moment, which results from the vectorial composition of the bend around the main normal and the bin normal of the wire axis, should be greater than 1.7 times the maximum torsional moment and remain smaller than the 1.7 times the permissible limit tensile stress multiplied by the resistance torque of the wire.
This requirement follows from the consideration that the edge fiber may be subjected to bending loads of a circular cross-section by the multiple mentioned be, due to the supporting effect of the material. The permissible shear stress limit is then 0.5 times the permissible tensile stress limit.
4. At the points of greatest bending and torsional stress, the radii of curvature and twist of the wire axis should be kept large, equal to or larger than the wire diameter.
5. The period of oscillation of the spring nail should not be greater than 1 / 60o to 111 () 0o second in order to guarantee the frictional connection of the fastening.
6. The total bending and torsional moment should not be too large at the points where the head of the nail merges with the shaft, and the normal forces that are directed into the shaft at these points should also be at the maximum load on the nail stay small in order to ensure a high degree of adhesion of the nail.
It is also desirable to give the nail head such a shape that a bracing of the rails in the sense of frame rigidity is achieved. If this condition is to be satisfied, the base parts of the nail head must press strongly against the rail foot.
In order to satisfy the aforementioned conditions, the rail nail with a loop-shaped nail head according to the invention is characterized in that the curve follows a cos "curve in plan, the ends of which are not pointed but rounded, and fourth in the elevation of an algebraic curve Order, whereby the base parts, deviating from the curve, merge with rounded portions into the shaft and the parameters of both curves are selected so that the torsional energy generated by the contact pressure is 0.5 to 0,
Is 8 times the bending energy and the total maximum bending moment is greater than 1.7 times the maximum torsional moment and is itself smaller than 1.7 times the limit of the permissible tensile stress multiplied by the section modulus of the wire.
An embodiment of the invention is described in the fol lowing with reference to the drawing. This embodiment satisfies the conditions outlined above and furthermore that the material expenditure for the nail head is a minimum. If this requirement is not made, deviations from the optimal shape of the nail head are permitted within the scope of the conditions specified in numbers 1 to 7.
The drawings show: FIG. 1 a view of the rail nail seen from the rail, FIG. 2 a top view and FIG. 3 an end view. The rail nail, which is bent from a round rod, is shaped symmetrically to its center. The two nail shafts are labeled 1 and 2. They are close together, which has the advantage that they can be driven into a single hole. If this requirement is not made, they can also have a distance from one another.
On the nail shafts with a corresponding radius of curvature, the upwardly directed part AB of the nail head follows, followed by a downward curved part BC and an upward ge sifted, elliptical part CD, which, as FIG. 3 shows, simultaneously against the rail is inclined. This is followed by the part marked D-E, directed obliquely downwards, which mainly consists of a straight piece. The inclination of part D-E to the shaft axis is opposite to that of part C-D and the angle of inclination itself is greater.
The spring arm part E-F adjoins part D-E; both parts E-F together form the arm.
The drawing also shows a coordinate system with the axes x, y and z. The zero point of the system is at the shaft, but slightly outside the shaft cross-section, facing the rail base and slightly above point A.
The drawing shows three with a, b and L designated routes. a corresponds to the height of the loop, calculated from the x-axis to point D, b (Fig. 2) to the distance of point F from the shaft axis and l to the distance of the shaft axis from one to the x -Axis perpendicular tangent to the center line of part C -D. The dimension b is essentially determined by the installation conditions and further by the additional requirement for the execution example that the base parts ABC press strongly laterally should rest on the rail foot.
The base parts mentioned are curved, deviating from the theoretical curve shape, in order, as already stated, to obtain sufficient rounding at the transition points.
The following equations apply to the wire axis: For the elevation:
EMI0003.0005
The plus sign stands for the upper arch, for the one in the floor plan
EMI0003.0006
and the minus sign for the lower arch for which y = 0 in the plan.
The algebraic curve for the elevation is then:
EMI0003.0007
EMI0003.0008
The following relationships apply to the moments: torsional moment MT:
EMI0003.0011
The following applies to the bending moment MA:
EMI0003.0013
The weight W is determined by the following equation:
EMI0003.0014
(y = specific weight). From these formulas it follows: 1. The smaller 1 is above a certain limit 1, , the greater the contact pressure P.
2. The smaller a is above a certain limit ao, the greater the contact pressure P. The parameter representation of the wire axis is shown in elevation:
EMI0003.0021
The parameter representation of the entire wire axis is:
EMI0003.0023
for the lower arch and
EMI0003.0024
for the upper arch.
With the values mentioned, the following relationships are obtained: 1. Total torsional energy ET
EMI0003.0026
2. total bending energy around normal and Bi normal 3. The smaller a is, the greater the torsional energy.
4. The condition that the weight remains constant when the three parameters are changed results in:
EMI0003.0029
5. From the condition that the torsional energy should remain at most two thirds of the bending energy, it follows:
EMI0004.0003
6th
On the condition that
EMI0004.0005
should be (Wa = axial section modulus, and
EMI0004.0007
follows with the values of the maximum moments:
EMI0004.0008
This results in the nail shown in the drawing with the values: l = 60 mm a = 35 mm b = 30 mm where l and a are above the lower limit mentioned , a contact pressure P of cv 2000 kg with a spring deflection of 14 mm. The torsional energy is about half the bending energy.
The permissible limits for the spring wire steel are hardly reached in the tensions. However, the height a cannot be reduced significantly because of the curvature conditions. With the nail, a contact pressure is achieved that far exceeds the pressures achieved with known nails.
